Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
Now all Bama has to do is get past my mighty mighty Gamecocks next week. :D
....the funny thing is, some of my Gamecocks friends are actually delusional enough to think South Carolina has a chance against Bama :lr . If they manage to pull it off, it would be an upset for the ages. |

Eh, Really Urban? Gonna try to do the Tebow jump pass on 4th and goal?
I will say I was wondering if the Alabama defender was going to try to run it out of the endzone. I was screaming FALL DOWN FALL DOWN! 20 YARD LINE! |

Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
I've a BIL that played at Bama in the late 70's under Bear. He put it very poetically with Chomp Chomp got Stomped Stomped.
Won't be as one sided next year, I'm afraid, when more of Gators have playtime under their belts. A lot of young player that will only get better with each game. While some may slam Florida as playing poor, I didn't see that. I saw a Bama team that played their best game of the season (so far), against a game, but young Florida team. I'm glad to see this contest come back to regular season! Though, it makes me speculate. Regular season game, then meet again in the SEC Championship, then (with right circumstances) meet again for National Championship?? !!!! Who knows, could happen!!! Would that be too much for one season??? LOL!! |
Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
Not me so much, Kid, I saw a Florida that has been hyped since they lost in the SECC game as having lost a ton of great
players to the NFL, but having an even better draft class coming in, and a true quarterback finally, etc....I saw them exposed as being just a depleted team that was trying way too hard to live up to the off-season hype. I don't mean that bad, I mean that more from the standpoint of it being the same thing across the USA. It happens to a bunch of athlete kids when big time boosters and fans get together to talk paper stats and overblow what young human beings are able to achieve. Florida just came face to face with the fact that they are worse than 2009, have plenty of key players hurt, etc. Bama is a juggernaut, and as long as they have Saban, they wiill be a juggernaut. He will be able to cherry pick the top talent in the Southeast and crush all comers. LSU would be that juggernaut today had he stayed. Now out of respect for Smokin Gator, I will stop bashing his team. :D Now I will agree that by the end of the season they might get all their speed back, squeak by the division challengers and limp into the Georgiadome, but I don't see it going any different. They might score some more points. They are the LSU of the East this year, lol. OK, game but young is fairly accurate, Kid. :D |

And after LSU's horrible performance at home against an anemic Tennessee team, LSU is wishing they could be the Gators of the West this year. I'll take Brantley over Jordan Jefferson anyday Looking forward to getting back on the right track this saturday and beating the Tigers in the Swamp :2 |

will have no problem scoring enough points to beat the gators next week. Or at least generate the turnovers to LEAD to the TDs that will beat the gators. And by the way, I'll take Brantley over JJ anyday, too. And hey, if he ever gets a decent snap in the gun, he might scare somebody, lol. (And not to be too large of a tool, but I'll take escaping with a bizarre win over getting drubbed anyday, too, lol.) :D |

Getting their a$$ handed to em twice in a row by bama is not beating all comers. Had either game been even close I would not be harping on it, but ehhh...But I think it is safe to classify meyer's tenure as much more successful than Les Miles'. :) But as for a cigar bet again this year, no thanks. I didn't like losing the last one. :D |

Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
Last year I got all "homery" like some do here, and I bet Power that they were going down.
But they didn't. And I had to pay up. It was not so much about the fact that I lost as that I had to go to the Post Office. Maybe in your small towns this is not a royal PITA. But here in the rectum that is at the end of the intestine of TN that is I-40, it is no fun & I don't like it. Anybody that knows me knows I do not like to send five here and five there. I know that doesn't satisfy Tom, but Tom closed down my French Poarn thread so he does not count this week. And you're right, Brent, that was a Pre-emptive edit, lol. I knew he was gonna ask if I cared to put my money where my considerable mouth was. |

Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
I might get homery closer to gametime. I think it's hard to justify a bet at this point when LSU goes
on offense and I start to get a queasy feeling in my gut. Bama fans don't get that! Why do I have to feel that? I see that lost look in Jordan Jefferson's eyes and I just have to look away from the TV. |

Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
OK, to answer Rocketmann, what do you THINK Les should say in that situation? He KNOWS
he screwed up, but lets not forget, this was a game of Musical Chairs F Ups. Whoever made the dumbest move LAST lost the seat. Les miles did not substitute all those players, he would have likely let Ridley win it in the end the way he won it throughout the game, by punishing the Vols. That was Gary Crowton's doing, "he saw something" he thought he could exploit. So he changed the personnel for NO GOOD REASON. Granted I am mostly just parrotting the BR paper here. But LES MILES did not nearly lose the game, the players did that. You had outstanding rushing and everything else that could go wrong did. Drops, fumbles, ints, you name it, the players did it. I forgive them, they have issues. BUT I prefer to look forward. I have more than enough to deal with in this decidedly Bama and FLa populated thread. LSU has the highest sack total in the SEC. We are 1st in Rush defense. We are first in total defense. I think LSU has this one. If not, I am already quite comfortable in the knowledge that LSU is scary bad in penalties, dumb mistakes and poor QB play. I will survive. -------------------------- PS...Derek Dooley will NOT be getting back his deposit on the headset he broke. |

Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
It's the look in their eyes. None of those three had nary a clue what the hell was going on. Still don't. Miles has a look that's even worse, and if not for the comedic relief would be completely worthless. His press conference was pure gold. If you haven't seen it you're missing out.
On Bama...we are now starting to enter a stretch in which 5 teams have an off week before playing us. Our schedule is brutal this year. In 5 games, we've been on the road twice, played two top 10 teams, and head to another top 20 program with a week of rest next Saturday. But I like what I see. I'll tell you this, this defense in two years is gonna be scary good. And when Saban was at LSU I was like, big deal. Good coach but whatever. Let me tell ya, this guy knows exactly what he's doing 24/7. Everything is calculated, orchestrated, and premeditated. As long as we have him we're going to be in the hunt. And everybody wants to say he never stays anywhere longer than 5 years, blah, blah, blah. Maybe so, but at least we're getting, to borrow from Lester Miles, a damn fine football team for those 5. A lot of football left, but I like our chances about now. :) |

will PILE in, climbing all over one another to get a chance to start. And it will never end as long as Nick is there. FROM WHAT I KNOW, he also does it fairly cleanly, so you should avoid the kind of sanctions you normally get when you are piling in the talent through other means. Power tried to defend FL as if there was a duopoly going on with AL and FL, and I respect his opinion, I just don't agree with it. What he wants there to be in FL is "lose half a team to the NFL, just reload, and do it all over again." And this is the way it was supposed to be. If you watched that senior game last year, al the kids were putting on the Gator hats. Urban HAS the kids. But let's face it, no matter how you spin it, they got trounced by Bama. (twice) Bama is scary good NOW. No need to wait. Personally, I love it that FL is exposed, and UGA is just lost. But that's what you expect with the SEC...fandom, homerism, loyalty, rivalry. And what's more, I am not so sure that Nick won't stay awhile. LSU is hot, humid, tough to be at. Bama is cool, comfortable, tough to be at, but EASY to be at if you win. I thought he was trying to establish a dynasty at LSU. But it is a lot easier to believe he is trying to REALLY do that at Bama. (Bear Jr.) The ONLY chink I see is that he is super-intelligent and well-spoken. HE MAY try to get out of Bama and head to a place where the accent doesn't MAKE people sound stupid. God love the Bayou and the Bama hills, but the rest of the country think we sound like hicks. He may try to parlay that clout to a school where he doesn't want to PUNCH everyone who talks to him, lol. ------------------- And don't get me wrong, I am not trying to bash Michael. I just feel like there is something wrong going on at UF for there NOT to be this reload, whammy. It is sad to watch, cause they are gonna get beat a few ties this year and it's not gonna sit well. OK, NOW I am ready to bet you, Michael, lol. I done got myself talked into it, roflol. |
Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
I see ur point, Brad. There is a cycle in college football and especially in the toughest conference in the nation. I don't think that Bama even under a Nick Saban will be immune to the relative low that Florida is in. But don't but too much stock in UF's loss at the hands of the Tide my friend :tu
And as for the bet, I'm down for it but don't do it just cause of peer pressure. Momma always warned me against it ;) |
Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010

Peer pressure, hehe. I know there is a chance for a letdown at UA, but for some reason
I don't think it will happen while Saban is there. Not to cap on UF, but their letdown is VERY strange, bizarre yet. I think Saban is too good a coach to allow a letdown. No matter what bluechippers he gets, he uses them masterfully. I THINK that Urban is not as good. I think he tends to require the perfect mix of players to have the best outcome where I think Saban is much more of a 'make the best out of what you have' guy. We'll see though, I am almost always wrong. |

Hope I didn't ruffle feathers as that was not my intent. I have watched Les/Gary make bonehead calls or just no calls at all over the last 2 years. Miles has this "What just happened" look on his face all the time. I guess if you make poor/no decision and still win, it's no big deal. But what about the games that have gone the other way? Nobody wins them all and people do make mistakes cause we are all human, but DAMN! As I said in my earlier post, I just hate to see a great football program/players not reach their potential because of coaching. |

Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
Oh, my feathers aren't ruffled. This is one of the toughest threads in CA, it's just a real intense
subject with really deep 'feelings' regarding area teams. I do not take anything anyone says in a bad light, because I am one of the only LSU fans on the board...I get beat on a lot. And if I have no alternative but to take it, I do. But when I think I have a reasonable argument, I argue. I can agree with people who say that we are the worst 5-0 team in the country, but I do not agree that we should be 0-5, or something rash like that. LSU fought and clawed back from a raft of mistakes by the players with good coahing and horrible, sloppy coaching mistakes with player heart. They earned their record, no matter how sloppily they did it. Let's look at another argument. LSU barely beat bad teams. I think that is untrue. In TN, people know that this team is talented and scrappy and better than their record indicates. They are just unorganized and as poorly coached as the Tigers. UNC I think was depleted, sure, but their second stringers played their hearts out, and not all the suspeded kids failed to play, in fact some serious hitters played but did not "start". I have no real knowledge about how the UWV game went or where they stood, but UWV is no perennial slouch. A lot of teams in the NCAA play cream puffs for 3-5 weeks before getting to the meat of their schedules. LSU plays top teams right out of the gate. So at this point in the season I am not embarassed by LSU's standing in the league. They could have played any of those teams and lost. (And LSU plays some cream puffs, just later.) Don't pay any mind to me, I just pull doggedly for my team and poke the other team's in the eye. Sometimes the fans get in the way. And I mean no harm to them. I just analyze the facts I have, ignore the facts I don't, and pass ruthless judgement, lol. |
Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
I feel ya, Brad. I think I am the ONLY Arkansas fan on the board.
|
Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
MAN, I was pulling for the Hogs when they played Bama. I have a standard line, I am a Bama
fan as long as the do not play LSU. But I had to move off of my position when the Hogs were giving them all they wanted. What happened in the second half is anybody's guess, but like I said, Nick Saban is the king of second half adjustments. You guys never had a chance. :D But being in Memphis, you tend to sway a little towards Arkansas in a fairly neutral context. Against LSU though, look out. And for the second year in a row, I am going to be working the day of the big showdown. Why anyone would hold a game in the early afternoon is beyond me. |

Re: Offcial SEC Football Thread 2010
Interesting factoids from the Memphis Commercial Appeal:
Georgia and Tennessee have six SEC championship game appearances between them since 2001, but will play Saturday with losing records for the first time since 1906....ouch Alabama begins a stretch on Saturday at South Carolina of playing six consecutive SEC games against teams that enjoy a bye week before meeting the Crimson Tide. "I think everybody should have an open date before they play Alabama, because they're so good," joked Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt, whose team is off this week before playing at Alabama on Oct. 16 So for those keeping track at home, Michael and i have a bet for the UF-LSU game this weekend. God only knows how THAT one's gonna go. But I think he's an LSU fan, so..... |
