Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Tomorrow should be a good game for Lee since he is on normal rest. Who knows what the Yankees are going to get from AJ on short rest.
|
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Phils gotta win three in a row??? I don't see this happening. 9th inning break-down will haunt them in the off season.
|
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
That was some game indeed.
As a Yankees fan, each time I thought we were set, back came the Phillies. Gotta hand it to both teams for guts and desire. |

Realistically, I'm seeing a Philly win tonight and the Yankees closing the Series out on Wednesday in NYC.

May be a tight one for a while if Burnett pitches like he did game two. However, neither is God. Both are human. Both have lost games in the regular season. Lots can happen in the game. Both teams have big hitters. So while a pitcher's duel is expected, could also end up being a different story and a matter of who gets one more run last. Frankly, while a Yankees fan and really believing we had all the better tools and stats coming into this series, I am pleasantly surprised it is 3-1. Would have thought it to be 2-2 at this point and headed for a guaranteed 7 games. Whether folks are Yankees haters, credit is well deserved for how they have played. |

Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
I'll stick with my prediction from the start and say Yankees in 6.
For some reason, I can't see the Yankees celebrating anywhere but the new stadium. There's still a lot of baseball to be played, but I like the way things are looking. This series wasn't A-Rod and Teixeira, like I had thought. It has been all about Damon and Jeter moving runners around the bases with Posada playing a big offensive role as well. Damon picked a great time to come up big as his contract is expiring. |
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
I love of how the big shift finally worked for the Yankees with Damon's steal of 2nd & 3rd.
|
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
I'm sticking to my earlier prediction (Yankees in 5). I think the Pressure will be too much for Lee to perform like he has all Post Season. He's due and so are the Yankees Bats.
|
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Let's Go Yankees!!
|
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Hopefully the Phils won't have to worry about pitching tonight. The bats MUST wake up and they can't afford to leave men on base.
Last night was ruff watching Rollins and Victorino get on in the 5th and then have Utley, Howard and Werth sit down in order. Then fast forward to the 7th where Rollins and Victorino get retired and Utley follows that with a home run. It's really nice to watch the ball leave the park, but when it's only adding one to the score board it doesn't make as much of an impact. Even if Lee pitches another gem if the Phils can't manage more than the one run they put up in game 2 it's going to be a long night. LET'S GO PHILLIES! Don't role over....Keep fighting. |

This was in today's Philly Inquirer supposedly by mistake:

Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Those were two good games this weekend, and happily for me two good outcomes. I wish to thank the Phillie fans here for taking the high road and giving some credit to the Yankees - seems the reality has at last struck them that the Yanks are not an easy out. For my part, I wish to say both Hamels and Blanton pitched better than I expected, although not quite as well as did our guys. As for Lidge - well, at least he didn't blow another save.

Early votes for MVP?? Jeter or Damon?

Although I'll take it, I don't expect a Yankee party tonight. Taking 2 down there suits me just fine - gives us a chance to win it at home, against Pedro "Who's Your Daddy?" Martinez.

Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Come on Phils take it back to NY...Hoping either AJ isn't as sharp on 3-days or the Phils can work some counts and get to their pen earlier. Being in Philly may help with that with no DH. Other than the surprising Marte, and obviously Rivera, I still think their pen is suspect (still not a diss ;)). I sincerely hope the Yankees have the chance to prove me wrong!
The Phillies got their hits last night, but not the timely hits they needed. Hopefully Howard found his stroke a little bit...at least he found contact last night! |

Anything is possible but A.J. has been sharp past outings on three days rest. Then again, that could mean he is due for a bad one. But then again, so can Lee. I am on pins and needles already. |

A Yankee come from behind win for the championship would be fitting for the season they have had.

Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
At least the Phillies didn't roll over and die. I was afraid they'd come to tonights game 'defeated.'. They put it to Burnett good.

Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Regardless of the outcome, these are two fine teams and the two best in baseball this year. I think my wife put this game in perspective (Phillies leading 6-1) when she said the Phillies can't score too many runs. She's rooting against the Yankees. I'm for the Yankees. I love her anyway. :)

HR Derby for the Phillies.
Also congrats to Ryan Howard for his 12K. |

Yankees trying to make a comeback. A-Rod with a 2 run double.

Yankees score another run. 3 runs down now.

Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Yankees make it a game in the 9th but the Phillies win game 5.
Going back to NY. |

Time for Pettitte to get the clinching win.

Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Holy crap! That was a close one.
Finally the bats come alive, but where oh where is Ryan Howard at. The big guy has a day off to figure something out. Chase Utley was determined to win this game if he had to do it all himself. Good pitching by Lee. Yes, he's human, but he got the job done. The bullpen is terrible. I think Lee should have been done after 7. It's sad they can't trust the pen with 2 innings and a 6 run lead. Hat's off to the Yankees for making a run late. They are hitting the crap out of the ball and that's not good for the Phillies. On to game six... |
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
I would like to have seen A-Rod get an AB in the 9th tonight. Who would Charlie put in to pitch?
|
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
I think he only had Myers and Lidge up throwing. After last night I'd have to go with Myers.......BUT I'm glad it didn't come to that, because I think A-Rod found his groove in Philly. An AB for him in the 9th could have been trouble.

Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
Back to NY! :tu
I was surprised Manuel put Madson in the ninth....not that I disagreed with it, but he has incessantly gone back to Lidge over and over and over again. (sentence courtesy from the Department of Redundancy Department) I have to give him credit, he didn't make the same mistake Fregosi made in '93 with Mitch Williams. Roger Mason pitched so well that series that people thought Fregosi should have made him the closer, me being one of them. Not that Madson is pitching that well (his velocity is way down) but Lidge's confidence is shot. Hopefully, given the opportunity, Manuel will stick to his guns and go to Madson, or someone else. |
Re: Yankees vs. Phillies W.S. 2009
I don't think there is much trust in Lidge right now.
