And as far as the 'Cuban Missle' is concerned, I would like to see him place that 105 MPH heater in a spot not 2 feet out of the zone. I have a feeling that throwing 100+ will have far less of an affect on the MLB than AAA. Also, they better be careful not to burn him out. Last guy I watched throw 100+ (Zumaya) was decent for a year and now can't seem to stay healthy. Or a very recent example of Strausburg, I know they want him to be the starter of the future but having him throw multiple 100 MPH pitches are going to burn him out faster than his fastball. :2

I agree that the Reds have to be careful to not over-use him. I heard his control is better, so we will just have to see :tu

I'm not so sure about that. Have you seen Houston lately? I'm a bit nervous about that series.

Oh, I'm sorry Dan. Did someone interupt your "Reds win" posts with actual sports discussion? I have been posting sports discussion all along, but you must have missed it. Maybe because you skip all the posts with actual talk about the team or because when they lose you ignore the thread all together. :hm

I'm with you about his arm being at risk. His location has gotten much better, but now is not the time to start risking the game on a guy who hasn't seen one inning at the major level. Valaika is just now coming in, but the entire game won't rely on him. I wish we wouldn't see Chapman until next year, but it is what it is.

His control has gotten much better according to reports. They've also been working with him on other pitches, not just that wicked fastball. Still, I hear he relies heavily on the fastball. I hate to see him burnout like Strassburg, but throwing 100+ all the time doesn't always equal injury. Randy Johnson consistently threw 100+ for a very long time w/o too much trouble.

I kind of knew Strasburg would have trouble. Just watching his arm in slow mo, he does all kinds of twisting that isn't natural.

Look at any pitcher in the back of their delivery and it looks un-natural.

Pretty cool to watch that debut. He was throwing some strikes that's for sure.

Good to see we optioned Volquez today, a great return on the trade for Hamilton. :bh

Chapman is a future Hall of Famer for sure. The guy throws gas, for sure. But lets not anoint him before he has accomplished anything like all the fans do with every other prospect.

Why would I cry? I'm sorry that I am not just simply a homer but a realistic sports fan. I think I may have seen more Reds games this year than you, the super fan. Good news for you if you didn't have to change alliances for baseball this year, but college football is upon us, so you'll have plenty of opportunity to claim every school within a 400 mile radius as your 'favorite team' starting on Thursday based on who is winning more. :r

Isn't calling him a "future Hall of Famerfor sure" prematurely annointing him, Adam? He has thrown all of 8 major league pitches. ;)

I remember the same "future HOFer" talk about Mark Prior. He won 42 games in 6 Major League seasons starting in 2002....he is now pitching for the Orange County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League at age 30.

Adam was just being his usual sacrcastic self when it comes to anything positive about the Redlegs.

Alas, Tom, you are correct that all too many hurlers of recent vintage sucomb to arm problems. Makes you wonder why, really, as in the old days guys threw much more and rarely injured their arms. Somewhere along the way, something went terribly wrong!

Congratulations Reds fans, I hope your guys keep playing strong in the playoffs... I'ts to late for the panic button in St. Louis... I honestly don't think the Cardinals can get to the wild card the way they can't hit

You can thank your GM for screwing your team. Trading away Ludwig was a bad move.

Absolutely, Hugh, seems like there were a lot less arm injuries in the days of 4-man rotations and frequent complete games.

Maybe time to change your CUT to "I can hear the Cards choking @ Busch". ;) :r
