:tpd: But I think it is only a matter of time before Chapman ends up on the DL with Tommy John surgery. They really don't have any sure-fire starters after the first 2, with the Votto signing, they made a committment to be a better ball club, so some great pitching pickups should be soon to follow. :hm

And I thought I was the only one who saw Tommy John written all over Chapman's arm when we first signed him.

I know you don't watch much baseball that isn't played in GABP. The last guy I remember that threw as hard as Chapman, was Zumaya, and he hasn't pitched in 2 seasons. You can only throw that hard for so long before your elbow says, 'F you'.

I watch baseball outside of GABP and I have seen Zumaya. Doesn't mean Chapman will get hurt. Maybe he is healthier. :sh

Nolan Ryan threw pretty hard and pitched 24 years!

He also played in the era before performance enhancing drugs and year-round trainning, those take a larger toll on these pitchers bodies as they train. Ryan also had the ability to do something other than throw the ball 100 mph to get guys out. There will never be another like the Ryan Express, these guys aren't built like they used to be. They are so coddled and watched, scientific break downs, bigger faster stronger emphasis. Its just a different age of baseball, with more injuries and less seasons. :2

I'm assuming the Widowmaker is Dusty? And the thought that Dusty kills pitchers' arms is a bit overblown.

One of the articles I read recently with predictions for the season said "First Manager to be Fired?" One of the guys said, Dusty. Found that humorous. :sl

I wouldn't doubt it. Dusty and Walt don't seem to agree on much lately.

At least Dusty has Stubbs in the 7 spot to minimize his AB's and subsequently his K's. :tu

I don't think you'll find many Cubs fans who agree with you on that. Right or no, I believe he played no small part in ruining Mark Prior. Shame, that guy could flat out deal. And no, I'm not a Cubbies fan.

Go Reds!! Was excited to see it on ESPN2 so I could watch it up here. Really missed watching them last year. Went from watching a TON of games to maybe 5. Might have to spring for the MLB package this year.

Prior and Wood are really the only two names that keep coming up in the debate. Although I'm not Dusty's biggest fan by any means, he hasn't ruined any arms in Cincy, and I don't think he did in San Fran either. Cubs fans are just negative.:D

I picked my two boys up early from school to prepare for the game today. Not as exciting as last year's opening day, but it was a good one. Back to back wins on Opening Day!

Cueto was excellent, as was Chapman and Marshall. Every starter got on base today.

ESPN home games are blacked out no matter what. (Sunday night might be the one exception.) Sell-outs don't matter in baseball like football. Also, if Fox Sports Cinci carries the game all other stations carrying it will be blacked out as well.

Just got stuck watching it on FSN Ohio. I just don't like hearing the homers talk about how Drew Stubbs is a future Gold Glover and Jay Bruce is going to have 50/100 this season and will be the MVP some day.

I distinctly remember hearing grumblings about his overuse of Livan Hernandez and Rob Nen while he was in San Francisco, but ultimately I don't know enough to make an informed opinion. I do however know just enough to fire off a sarcastic one-liner.:D

If he can keep laying down a bunt like he did yesterday, his K rate will go down drastically.

That was one of the best push bunts I've seen in a while.

Re: Red's Fans Check in

An ugly loss tonight. Our new potential "ace" only goes 4 2/3 innings.
Why did we even bother claiming Simon off of waivers? I'll be p!ssed if I ever see him on the mound for us again (unless it's already a lost cause).

Still, there are some positives. Votto got his first HR out of the way, as did Cozart with a HR and a triple.

Re: Red's Fans Check in

Cozart sure did look great! :tu

Latos just couldn't get his breaking ball working tonight. He kept coming up short on the pitch so they weren't even swinging at it.

Cozart is dang impressive so far. Nice to see some hyped talent live up to it (at least in his limited exposure) after being force fed Stubbs, Bruce and Bailey as future HOF'ers. :tu

To be fair, Meseraco kept calling for breaking balls, even though Latos couldn't get 'em over the plate in the 5th inning. Not sure if that is Meseraco's call or someone in the dugout. Either way, Latos doesn't shake off pitch calls very much.

Maybe they are back to getting lucky like they did two years ago and all the bounces at the end of the games will go their way. Last season was a little bit more of a reality check, maybe today is the start of getting lucky at the end of games again. :tu

Thanks Hugh! This looks to be the year that the Reds could make the playoffs again, and could possibly (I know I'm drinking the Kool-Aid) make the WS.

I've been thinking about ordering some Vottos cereal, but Hugh already took care of that for me, plus some smokes and a cozy. I'm forever grateful, brother.:tu
