Excellent scene that is nowhere to be found in the books... Littlefinger is far smarter, cunning and subtle in the books. The book version would never do something so blatant and stupid. I know it's not gonna follow the books like a screenplay, but I always get worried when drastic, character-changing liberties are taken.

That said, this show rocks... the books are incredible too. It seems to follow the saying about the 'best laid plans of mice and men' in that no matter who makes what prophecies or who has what aspirations, **** happens and you can't stand in the way of fate. Ned dying proved that no one was safe.

I was just watching South Park, Episode 7 of Season 16 and Mr. Garrison is teaching
history as if Game of Thrones was actual history....it's freaking hilarious.

And so what we start to see is a pattern emerging in world history, much like that of the
Greeks and the Romans...Remember that there were 7 families fighting for control of Westeros...
now the king of Westeros was WHO??

I've been a little disappointed with this season, truth be told. Things seem a bit disjointed and hard to follow. If I hadn't read the books, I'd be lost, and I find myself giving running explanations of what's going on to Grace as we watch it.

I've enjoyed this season but it definitely is all over the place. My friends and I huddle around my one buddy's TV who has HBO and we're constantly pausing it to explain sh*t to the chicks

Caught up last night seeing Last week's episode and this week's.

The Red Woman: WTF!?!? Hot yet creepy.:sh

When the hell is Joffrey going to get what he has coming to him? Beheading? Fried by a dragon? Tortured and removed from the throne for being the result of incest?

As for Daenerys, I hope we see more of her (and more of her, LOL). She's been a somewhat lost storyline this season, so far. That city was pretty cool to see after the gate opened. But that one Warlock was pretty damn creepy, if you ask me.

Looking forwarward to what goes on with the Knight's Watch.

OLS 04-30-2012 12:16 PM

Re: Game of Thrones

I get the same vibe off that red witch....she is like one of those women you know you should NOT be messing with,
but it's late, you're drunk, and she is licking your earlobe. But you know you are going to get murdered.

As for Daenerys, the actress played her part SO WELL, when she was trying to get into the 'greatest city that ever
was or ever will be'. Her unease with being a royal-type in the presence of a person that says more than "Ugh" was
clear, and a HOOT to watch....she got the name of the city wrong, she looked several times like she had NO IDEA
what to say next, and until she got pi55ed off, she really was never able to be confident. It was a BLAST to watch,
so well acted. It's got to be hard to play that scene.

Geoffrey, when he picked up that mace with the stag's head on it, DAMN, I thought, you have GOT to be kidding me.
Oh yeah, he's going to go down. Maybe it will be sooner rather than a cliff-hanger "later" or last bash before season 3,
although I am sure they are going to play it like Walking Dead and screw it all up.

---Edit-----

Oh, and is it just me, or does that theme song just give you a massive "I'm gonna watch me some TV" boner?
I hear it and I start to get pumped up for me some Throne on throne action. Must be that cello...or just the
excellent period feel of the music piece.

Re: Game of Thrones

Agreed on the opening music - fantastically done.

I just started this season, I like to wait a few episodes in so I can watch them in chunks. I've read the series so I know what's going to happen, but it's awesome to see play out on the screen anyway :)

OLS 05-01-2012 02:30 PM

Re: Game of Thrones

That's definitely what I prefer now...it gives me the time to make a DVD worth writing, 2 episodes....
Once I get two down, I burn em and watch em. Normally I would say it helps to stay away from this thread,
but lately the whole board is snooze-city, so no risk of spoilage. This season is not near as fun to watch as
the first season, but you can tell they are setting up a huge glut of awesome stuff. As long as they don't HOLD
it for Season 3 I will be OK with it. I swear, Tyrion Lannister is written to be such a huge brain on that lil guy.
He cracks on people all day long, always has the last laugh on people, and even with these intensely manipulative
people all around him, he is still the strongest one of them all. JUST GREAT writing, not such good accent delivery,
though, lol. Actual British Islanders must be squirming around in their chairs to hear it. Of course, it's a make-believe
land, so maybe his accent is perfect, I don't know.

On the music side, I watched (and continue to re-watch) Band of Brothers, and from day 1, I could never make it through
the entire open to get to the show, I am fast forwarding as soon as the HBO logo is over.

THAT SONG??? I could watch it AND rewind it and watch it again I like it so much.

I recently re-watched season one.
Before I did, I remembered season one as being jam packed with awesomeness.
Now that I've seen it again, it actually starts out slow and steady for the first 4-6 episodes then explodes.
I'm hoping they have the same plan this year.

I would say you are right Dom, but I remember having my feet on the ground the whole time, feeling comfortable
with who was who and what was what. I like that safe feeling somewhat, especially in a show that I thought
strictly from the title, I would not care for. Once I saw a promo still and saw that Sean Bean was in it, I changed
my tune completely. FOR ONCE he got to play the good guy, and not a good guy who turned out to be the mole,
bad guy, villain, etc. I kept waiting for him to reveal he was actually a Lannister or something. ;)

One would think she wouldn't leave the Dragons alone though until they were capable of mass slaughter. They really are the only reason anyone speaks to her with any decency.

I know that they spent a lot of their budget and shooting time recording the big, climatic battle at the end of this season. So it's guaranteed that we'll have a large, movie-like, battle scene for the 1st time :tu

OK...my thoughts...

As for the bodies that were shown at the end of the episode in Winterfell by Theon, I think they were the bodies of the two orphans that Bran and Rickon had mentioned were at the farm. I think that if it was Bran and Rickon, the bodies of Osha and Hodor would be seen, too. Speaking of Osha...damn nice to see what she's been hiding under those dirty clothes..she's got a rockin' bod.

As for the wildling that Jon Snow had captured, you had to know she was leading him back to the rest of her clan. It'll be interesting to see what happens to him with the wildling clan.

I was surprised as hell at the happenings in Qarth. Didn't see that slaughter coming. Wow! honestly, I'd like to see her get the dragons back. I have a feeling that if/when she does, there will be hell to pay. :fl

I'm not sure what he's got up his sleeve, but I like what the half-hand has been doing. I like him standing up for Sansa and wanting someone to go get her. I don't quite get what's up with Sandor. Does he have a conscience or not? His comment that he's the only thing between Joffrey and her to Sansa made me rethink his character. It was interesting to see Cersei's take on Joffrey. She's obviously overly power hungry, with he saying she's never been able to control Joffrey, yet ensuring he ascends to the throne.

And Arya being in service to Tywin could prove an advantage to Robb. I wonder what will happen if Tywin asks any more questions about her background. I wonder how much she'll be able to come up with to placate him. I wonder who she has killed for her 3rd choice.

Re: Game of Thrones

No spoilers but....after tonights episode, is it me or does anyone have a bit of a time following the characters and remembering their names? I really don't know the names of half of the usually mentioned characters.

Clearly they are compacting A LOT of characters into a short 10 episode season, which I don't understand. This is a BIG show and for it to only have 10 episodes in a season really makes it hard to follow. There are many key characters getting less than 2 minutes per show or sometimes completely missing from episodes. (Tonights example Sansa Stark). One could also argue over Daenerys Targaryen's mere 90 seconds of screen time if that.

Tonight's episode seemed like filler, we all know what we wanted to see happen and it just didn't. They messed around too much and B.S'd their way through spending time pointing out the obvious.

This show needs like 15-18 episodes per season.

I liken this show to LOST in a lot of ways. You CAN'T take away the sheer majesty and scope of the show, and it
is nicely done, but it's almost like they are suckering you in for a payoff that never comes. Its really not as bad as
Lost was for that, but it's at least as bad as 5-6 episodes of Greene Family Farm-Walking Dead.

That said, I am two episodes behind, so I take care of that tonight.

They are doing a good job of mimicking the books then because that is exactly how the books come off to me. Cliffhanger after cliffhanger with very little ever really happening. I am on the last fourth of book five and while there are some exciting things that happen, most of the books seem like filler with these epic cliffhangers that hardly ever turn out to be anything special.

You should read the books... the show is like a vacation in that regard... they left out at least 50% of characters that have an impact in the book. Seriously, while the show has a lot, the book is crazy with it.

2 more books in production... though I'm not sure when they are slated to drop. Hopefully the gap isn't as long as between 4 and 5 (5 years, I believe?). My other hope is that some of these questions will be answered... I wonder what is significant and what just simply is what it is because that's how it is.

I'm about a third of the way through book 5 myself.

Yeah I agree, it's a huge show of epic proportions. Which is why I don't understand the 10 episodes per season and wasting precious time with filler. They really have so little time to deal with and evolve the characters. They really need 14-18 shows per season IMHO. It just doesn't feel right sometimes, like right when it gets interesting it's over. Which is pretty much exactly what you were saying.

Well I caught up last night and watched S-02 E-7&8 all in one shot and I was more concious than ever before of

I long for the simplicity of the first season and how I never felt antsy about moving forward. I will watch with
little complaint, though, it's good stuff. And there ARE a lot of kings vying for the throne, so I guess you need
to deal with it all. This Danaerys thing is looking like a no-win situation, but on the upside, I think John Snow is

Granted, they are dirty, a lot of em, but they have offbeat lookers in every class.
You have the wildling that just took it all off last month,
You have the hot wildling redhead,
You have the hot iron-born princess, who while not strictly hot, is certainly worth
looking at in a medieval sort of way.

All of em are erotically charged in their own, dirty, "I wonder what's going on under that goatskin" kind of way..

And of course, there is lady Stark's new bodyguard, for a 7 footer, man is she hot, lol.

Allegedly, they spent 15% of their entire season budget on the last episode for Blackwater.

So I'm expecting some epic ass kicking battle scenes.
