I'm with you 100000%. He was one of the most feared players on the ice. I remember him getting checked through the glass, I believe it was Roenick who hit him, and he climbed back over the wall with a smile on his face. Kronwall reminds me of him at times with the way he times his hits and his propensity to throw a good hip-check. Different players no doubt, but hit a little bit alike.

I remember a few dirty hits from Comrade Konstantinov back in the day....Like him knocking several of Jocelyn Lemeiux's teeth out with a crosscheck to the mouth. Enjoyed the next game against Vlady too, when Dirk Graham beat the ever-loving crap outta him as a little retribution for Lemeiux.

Konstantinov was a beast, I loved watching him especially come playoff time. He and Federov had a way of taking it to the next level in the playoffs, it was crazy. That accident was a terrible shame...

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

If I can put in my two cents, I don't think the hit on P'ville was dirty, it just had an unfortunate outcome. Claude Lemieux on Kris Draper (yeah I know it was a long time ago)...now THAT was dirty!!!

I think the way we perceive hits in hockey has a lot changed over the last 5 years. Scott Stevens would absolutely destroy guys and nobody would say a thing. I'm not sure if he could play like that nowadays.

That's true, Stevens would often go for the head with his shots (think Lindros), and that is not legal anymore in the NHL. Too many careers being ended early.

If only that accident never happened. Probably would have had Lidstrom and him competing against each other for Norris trophies.

And the guy is Russian, how can you not expect some dirty hits from him :r

I know its early in the season and we have a new goaltender but the Sharks look very weak on the D.
Boyle just doesnt look like himself (lots of turnovers), Vlasic is getting smoked. And Niemi is letting way to many shots get in the net.
Its early. I will be patient

Really disappointed with mannys comments. The boy clearly did nothing but clap. Was Rypien protecting himself from the excessive air from the fans clapping. Unlike Dominic squirting a Guy with a water bottle this is very different. Rypien was in a state of rage pushing the ref and had bad intentions with a 14-16 year old. I really think the league needs to smack him hard on this one. That dude was in a bad place mentally with some serious tunnel vision. Would like to see a minimum of 5 games hoping for more. He's getting paid to play and if he can't take a fan clapping at him he needs to gtfo of the league. Who knows he may try to kill a Philly fan for heckling him.

Got to imagine knowing Vancouver fans love of Americans the kid deserved it for looking at him and being American. So much for that good Alberta boy. :r

As big as he was (6'5") and as much as I liked his game, Jiri Fisher was not much of a fighter. He usually ended up on the losing end when the gloves dropped.

Laraque really knew how to fight. Don't know much about him other than he's not the guy you want to square off against.

Ahbroody 10-21-2010 10:45 AM

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

Not saying he was a fighter. He definitely got 5 for receiving a beating. Just posted it because we were right there when it happened. Didn't show him turtled and the ocean of blood he left.
Georges was one of the last great fighters I think. Game changed and teams don't really want just fighters anymore

Always good to see a fight live, especially when you're team is winning.

Yeah, you can't just be a boxer on skates. I think that's why Detroit fell in love with Proby & McCarty. Although not prolific scorers, each had a few good years and McCarty scored some huge playoff goals. Plus, they were rarely on the recieving end of a beating.

Jumbo apparently resigned for 3 years. The Sharks D and goalies have looked very bad in the first few games. At work listening to the. Sharks Avs game. Looks like Foote suffered a head injury unknown how. If the Sharks D does not gel and a goalie establish himself this will be a long season for SJ.

Byfugly ran the Caps goalie tonight. Not a good scene from the highlights and looks like he took some shots for it as well. I dont want to say turtle, but the highlights I saw on NHL on the fly didnt look to good.

Sharks took the Oilers out behind the wood shed. Eberle did have a nice goal for the OIlers. Hopefully the Sharks are starting to right the ship.

Wow screw his pads Niemi gave up three goals on 5 shots before getting the hook.
To be honest though only one was his fault. The first was a power play goal, number two he was screened by his own defenseman but still think he should have had it. Number three the Sharks D took neither the shooter or the option man and pretty much backed into niemi. Funny listening to grapes last night he pointed out give the goalie the shooter, take the outlet man, but when you take neither you screw your goalie.

not looking good for the Sharks. Have couple good games then a bad one. Nitty came in and played solid relief.

Hey, most teams would take 2-1, that would leave you at 55-27 if you could do it all season. :)

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

Watched the Wings pull one off late Sat night. Dats is amazing with the puck. However, the Wing's D needs to stop couging up the puck in their own zone. The giveaways are killing them. Luckily they've been able to overcome the mistakes with a ton of offense, but that won't cut it come playoff time.

At least Howard looks good so far. 2.14 GAA, 92.5%, 1 SO, & he's 4-0.

That powerplay goal was one of the nicest plays I have ever seen, from any team.

I would love to see the Jackets keep this up, its a shame 10 years in the league and they haven't done much. I got a call today from their sales people, trying to sell me season tickets. I told them I was a Penguins fan.

I am, but when I said that, she kinda shut up and stopped the sales pitch. Later today I was thinking about that call and thought to myself that she was a horrible salesperson!

:)
