Some great stuff Edwin!
This was a 5 picture panoramic I took during a storm at Indian Beach in Oregon. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps2b4b70f7.jpg This one was printed and now hangs in my livingroom. |

Re: Photography Thread
The part I like about the space shuttle one is the odd juxtaposition of the shuttle launch
and the bee going in for a taste of nectar in the next photo....it reminds my brain of some kind of spacewalk where the bee is being guided into position....of course it is NOT THAT, but that's what the position of the two photos rorshach'ed into my head. |
Re: Photography Thread
HAHA! Love that observation Brad, and it does look like that!!

Re: Photography Thread
Can't we all just get along???
http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...pscfe8b582.jpg These two were literally at it the whole time i was around. Every activity had to be vetted first through this pecking order battle...swimming, getting OUT of the water, walking over to the tree tangle. Always a very small fight over who's idea it was or who went first. Just enough camera shake here at the long end of a 210 to make it less than crisp, but this was the one that best captured the agitation and also had the best relative position. I have sharper ones, but not ones I like more. When they got out, it came to a head and the one who was out of the pool splashed the crap out of his sibling and that one was a great shot, but its all water drops. |

There is no way of knowing the shutter count at this point, and to llook at this shot off of the D90, I am really wondering why I even went to the trouble and expense of ORDERING a D700. This is my current best camera with about my worst lens. But now I am torn....is it crap after all? It is a Nikkor 70-300 G lens which is super slow, and all plastic (and glass) but on the D90, it suddenly looks a lot less crappy. Once I took the D90 to New Orleans for the first time, I finally realized what a super camera it was. But seeing this shot, which is probably one of the best photos I ever took, I am starting to think a bit better of that new-fangled G lens. It cost me a whopping $69 refurbished. Hell, I'd give $69 for a poster print of the damn Lion shot. |
Re: Photography Thread
Waterfowl are about my favorite photographic subject, so those shots are really great for me.
They are TINY, but I can see the quality dripping off the shots...wonderful color and dynamic range in the feathers, and of course, great captures of moments in time, especially the feeding Cormorant or Anhinga. Great work for sure. |
Re: Photography Thread
Brad, the answer to the d700 thing is, just wait til you go shoot the streets of NO at night and u need to jack that iso up. You'll be glad you got the d700.

is the damn IQ. I KNOW the D700 has great IQ, and I KNEW the D90 had it too, but even though I spent on the very bottom end of 'used D700 money', I am looking at that lion shot and thinking, 'damn.....I didn't need to spend even THAT money." If the thing has under 35k shutter actuations, I will keep it and shut my mouth and just shoot with it. But it IS beat to hell condition-wise, so I ain't holding my breath. :tu If it is much over 60k, I am just gonna ship it back and count myself lucky to be dealing with a place that has a generous return policy. |

Re: Photography Thread
But that's what they WANT me to do.....50k is my final offer.
Anyway, I'll know tomorrow. An really, for what I paid, even if it was 80k, all I would really need to do is remember that I do not have to treat it like its my only camera. I can use it when I have to have the low light capability and use my very capable stable of other bodies to take up the slack. I like what I get out of the D200 and the D90 both. Not enough to keep me off the sales sheets, but you know what I mean, lol. |
Re: Photography Thread
While we are on the subject of photography, lol, does anyone know why it seems like Nikon pulled all their
old speedlights and is only selling odd-numbered ones now? Not sure if its a i-TTL issue or what, but all of the major online retailers now seem to be out of the business of selling SB-200, 400, 600, 800 etc. Well, they actually still sell a SB-400 for enthusiasts. |

Re: Photography Thread
Yeah, Justin, I think it is new models versus old models. So to Nikon I say.....
ITS A FU(&ING LIGHT! WHAT KIND OF NEW FEATURES CAN THEY COME OUT WITH? High resolution LIGHT? Increased SPEED of LIGHT? More megapixels?? Bigger HOTSHOE fitting? Gimme a break. |

Re: Photography Thread
Justin I would rag you about your apparent new Canon point and shoot, but I live in a glass house.
So I will not rag you for your CAS.....My NAS went into hyperdrive last night. Ado put up another D90 yesterday that was priced too low to leave alone....it was not in top condition, but as may be apparent now to some, I am building a hedge against Nikon after the release of a 36 MP camera. I have surrounded myself with bodies that are getting near what I consider a reasonable MPixel limit and that all use the same battery. My embarassing collection of cameras now consists of EIGHT NIKON BODIES that can all use the same battery. None of them are over 13 MP. It fits my idea of what a reasonable MPixel limit is, as well as offering me total flexibility with power. While I would tolerate the 24 Mpixels of the D600, the battery kills it for me. For an indefinite period of time, I can wall off progress and just take photos. If a D200 or D90 dies, I have a sibling there to donate parts from should there be none available. From what I hear, Nikon is no longer selling parts to repair dealers. Not sure if that is still true or not, but it gives me pause. You have to send every repair that needs parts to Nikon. that is not WHY I have 2 D200s and 2 D90s, but its a comfort nonetheless. |
Re: Photography Thread
OUCH....look what I wrote in this thread 15 months ago.....
"As I told you all before, I am willing to own a DSLR, but I am not willing to own a lot of lenses. I draw my mania line right there." Wow.....what complete and utter Bull5hi+. |

Re: Photography Thread
Any camera can be a point and shoot. Like when I hand the 6D to the wife and put it on Auto mode, then, it's essentially a point and shoot. :)

Re: Photography Thread
4 Attachment(s)
I have yet to finish charging the battery so I can find out the shutter count on this
D700, but I did get to see just how bashed up a G-rated D700 looks. "Good"...not Very good. This thing has been beaten to death, the first time I have SEEN such an abused camera from them, so now I know how the other half lives. I think when you are paying over a thousand dollars for a camera, you should TRY to factor in the spare 3-400 bucks it would take to never have to SEE this kind of abuse. But there is a part of me that KNOWS that abuse marks like this are NO MORE useful in determining how much a camera was used before it was sold off. There are people, and I have said this before, who will use the last ounce a camera has to give and still sell it for top dollar cause they were simply more CAREFUL in the way they used it up. So without further ado, I need to stick a card in this pup and see how bad it is. Hell, this person used the camera so hard that most of the buttons can't even be read anymore. I had to look at a pic online to see what the hell was where. Luckily by now most of them are second nature for me. |
Re: Photography Thread
good looking D700. Thats the way a properly used body should look. I used to own a 1D2 that look like that. I loved the battle scars on it
|
Re: Photography Thread
**** that ****! I'd return it and sell some of you other camera bodies and buy something better

to go with it. As is usual lately, Ado sent me some bull5hi+ chinese wall charger for the battery. RIGHT NOW I can't get the battery to charge on it. If that continues, I will likely send it back and stop trolling the dregs. Picked up a few stars, though....180mm 2.8 ED manual focus lens, a 105mm 2.5 manual focus lens and a 85mm 2.0 manual lens. My D200 is fully capable of using those lenses to their potential, so I am not cutting this thing any slack. But I still have so much to test before I jump to conclusions. I am such a maroon....I thought last night to bring a fresh batt to have with me today, but thought, "nah, they will send a charger with the battery and camera." Which they did, but it ain't gettin it. Had I listened to my own counsel, I'd already know the shutter count. I have a D70 and battery on hand, but of course, I can use a D700 batt in a D70, but not vice versa. |

Re: Photography Thread
Ahh, so that photo was stored there for sales porpoises.....
It specced out pretty good when my nosy instinct kicked in and I had to go out and read about it. It would be nice to have in 2013. My pocket cam is about 2002 vintage. And all the times I troll the Ado listings, I see great cheap used pocket cams, but I guess I don't care how well I take pics in places where I can't easily bring a DSLR....at least not enough to buy something newer. |

Now THAT is yuppie Americana. As for selling off my D70, nah...I mean I would sell one to YOU HERE, but outside that, I will keep it for family members that might want one. It has too little value to even bother with all the logistics and rejection that selling and shipping such a camera entails. Besides, the sucker has a 1/500th flash sync speed! I lent it to a girl here at work to test drive before buying it, and this person is perpetually broke, so were it not a spare D70, I would have thought that a bit useless....she took some damn good pics with it, just family snaps, but VERY colorful and crisp and well exposed in terms of both contrast and level. I bet if she could see them bigger than 1.5 inches, she might buy it. Hell maybe she DID USB em out of the camera already before she returned it. Both outdoors and inside with the flash, PERFECT exposure and focus. |

Re: Photography Thread
Yeah i was just funnin ya. Wondering why you need a pancake lens in the
first place. Having trouble sticking the 6D in your pocket? Of course you could ask me why I need half a dozen manual focus lenses for a auto-focus camera...... |
