That being said, I heard an unconfirmed story that HH will be letting certain groups (likely associated with charitable donations) pick 12 year barrels, those will be all sorts of secondary expensive if true, but I think in general the 12 year barrels will go to regular ECBP releases for as long as they're still age stated |

Easy work-around, give the buyer their own "novelty sticker" to do as they please with when they get home. Some of the guys on FB bourbon groups are even paranoid about that. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
The guy that got the email from my group responded with "I will absolutely sign, and will be happy to take any barrels from stores that won't sign the agreement" :r

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I finally busted open the GD15. I'm really enjoying it. The nose has baking spices, fresh bread, and plum. On the taste I get cinnamon, vanilla, orange, and caramel apple. The finish fairly coats the tongue, but dissipates rather quickly, with more orange and some clove.
I think I grabbed this for $63, and would grab another bottle without hesitation. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5826c004_z.jpg |

Got the new Booker's batch yesterday (Tagalong, 21-02) and another 14+ year KC SiB pick. Going to crack the Booker's some time this weekend, it's getting much better reviews than the last couple batches. https://i.imgur.com/dWDlt3w.jpg |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
A week of vacation with my brother-in-law, we were able to put down a little over 3 bottles of bourbon total - opened 4.
Best bottle of the week was the Wilderness Trail barrel strength store pick - good solid bourbon - caramel, oak, slight sweetness, did not drink like 116? proof. I have another one of these thankfully in the basement. Other bottle killed - Barrel - David's Dram edition - a Kentucky Whiskey finished in German Ice Wine barrels. - Very light in color and mellow in flavor. It was good but not a go find another bottle good. Also did not drink like it was 115 proof. The other two we tried, Chattanooga Whiskey - very good bourbon but very light after the other two bottles. Made for a good afternoon sipper on the beach. Lastly, Woodenville - most unique of they four. It had a strong oak and balsa wood flavor to it. Not bad and not harsh just very different from the other 3. Ended up with 1/2 a bottle of each of these two so I will revisit them again without the barrel strengths to compare them to. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
There's a whole lotta brains behind that Wilderness Trail, Dr. Pat Heist is a yeast genius (has a separate company as a consultant to provide yeast to distilleries and production facilities around the world, he has thousands of live samples to pick from for himself and anybody else that wants to pay him). Their barrel strength rye is killer, their bourbon is gonna be hard to beat when it starts getting a few more years on it :tu

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Had a 1233 rye Manhattan a few days ago, was pretty sub par and light in the signature rye notes

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I had decided not to buy more 9 year Knob Creek picks and concentrating on the 14-15 years picks as they're going the way of the dinosaur. But after drinking the Sal's 9 year pick with friends on Saturday, went and grabbed 2 more. Best 9 year pick I've had, and better than some of the 15 year picks. No brainer at $49, I may grab a couple more to stockpile before they sell out.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Sounds delicious! I've enjoyed every 9 year pick I've tried (it's my go-to pour if I don't want to spend real money when I'm out, I was at a place in Vegas where cocktails were $20-25 but a 2oz pour of their KC pick was $12). The only reason I'm not buying them is I have too many Knob Creek bottles as-is and don't need the constant temptation of buying more, there's too much temptation out there. Plus I've been spending way too much on high-proof high-age ex-bourbon barrel rums, but that's a conversation for another thread :al

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Looking for that rum in bourbon barrel thread any moment now, Ben. :D
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I can't, it's expensive enough without learning about more things to buy
That being said, when I buy my 15 year Foursquare private bottling next week maybe I'll throw a little temptation your way :tu |

Elijah craig 12 yr. Barrel proof
booker's whistle pig 12yr rye |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Basil Hayden's
Booker's Elijah Craig 12 Yr Four Roses Single Barrel |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Scratch my first answer, breaking this down to high proof/low proof/rye
High proof: BOOKER'S - 10 ELIJAH CRAIG 12 YR. BARREL PROOF - 10 KNOB CREEK SINGLE BARREL – 12 Low Proof: FOUR ROSES SINGLE BARREL - 10 MAKER'S MARK 46 – 10 WILD TURKEY 101 - 8 Rye: OLD FORESTER RYE 100 - 10 RITTENHOUSE RYE - 10 WHISTLE PIG 10YR RYE - 15 Optional add on of WP12, but it's expensive and you're probably better off trying two different ones you haven't tried before |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
1792 SINGLE BARREL - 10
EAGLE RARE - 10 ELIJAH CRAIG 12 YR. BARREL PROOF - 10 FOUR ROSES SINGLE BARREL - 10 KNOB CREEK SINGLE BARREL – 12 Probably the first 5 I would take, though I could easily throw another 5 from the list in there. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I did a list on the other board, Chayse. All of the below were included, and the rest these Gentlemen have suggested are all great too.
