I loved my K1000. What sucks is I cannot for the life of me find any of the old photos or negatives from when I used that camera.... of course back then I didn't really know any better and usually took my film to K-Mart or Meijer to be processed. :sl

Presidential Limos, from Reagan all the way back to FDR

The limo in the foreground was the same limo where Pres. Reagan was hustled into when Hinckley shot him, and the same limo that Pres. Ford took shelter in when Lynette (Squeakey) Fromme, of the Charles Manson gang, pointed a .45 at him.

Re: Photography Thread

All your old Nikon lenses will fit that, right?
Well, if you HAD any, I guess.

Another of my not quite golden nuggets here. This is the well-known Steamer Natchez
parked at the French Quarter dock with one of New Orleans only real iconic 'skyscrapers',
the International Trade Mart. If you watch JFK, the white-haired dude that Jim Garrison
takes to court to stand trial for conspiracy to ass the prez is said in the script to be the
"guy that owns the Trade Mart". That building behind the steamer is the Trade Mart.
It was the hub of Cental and South American trade through New Orleans. There used to
be a cool rotating bar at the top called The Rain Forest that we always tried to get into
when I was a kid, but walk through it and head to the elevator is all we ever dared to do.
The sun is glinting off of the most recognizable feature of the Aquarium of the Americas
there in the photo as well. This was another dawn photo of this area of town. Might go
back down again this weekend.

Re: Photography Thread

No the Nikons won't fit it. It takes minolta lenses. Came with a 50mm f/1.7 lens.
I need to send it to the local shop for a CLA. The mirror sometimes sticks up until I advance the film.

Re: Photography Thread

Tempted to take my show on the road this weekend, if the weather holds out in NO this weekend,
I think I will. Picked up a 24mm 2.8 manual focus AI lens and think it will be almost perfect for the light
I end up shooting on my late night trips. I think I should have gotten a faster lens, but it gets expensive
fast once you add WIDE to fast. I think my f/3.3 18-55mm does a decent job, but I take two cameras with me.
50mm f/1.8 ends up being a stovepipe at DX crop, and even the 35mm f/1.8 is too tight to do well in the quarter in
the early dawn and dark. So I needed a second, fast, wide alternative. It meters, so that's all I really insist on
in a old-time lens. I needed to test it tonight, hell I still have light, lemme go....

Brad. I love manual focusing on my minolta. Split image AND microprism focusing screen. Makes it oh so easy to mf

OLS 05-17-2013 06:10 AM

Re: Photography Thread

Not so easy on the D200, but the hardest thing to remember is to focus. When I am out
at 4 am shooting, it's sometimes hard to see the focus, and other times I have left AF lenses
helpless with my BODY on MF and me not even having taken the time to CHECK. I killed 80 pics
like this the other morning, PERFECT dawn and night lighting, wasted. I get so excited
to be on the scene like a fly on the wall, 'wow, look at that", "Wicked light over there",
I just sometimes forget to start right. So we'll see. I HAVE to go to Charlotte and help
my sister move in two weeks, so this weekend is a tough call. Not sure I want to be
driving SO much. Might not have a choice. New Orleans in the late spring and summer,
no es funno.

I don't think those frogs get any bigger than that. I have some pairs that breed in my pond in the back yard, and they
emerge from the pond like that and stay close to that size...I think. Very easy to step on. I ended up doing exactly what
I thought I would, took the beater drive and wore myself out. Came back and dumped all the shots into the computer,
separated wheat from chaff and then went to bed at 7:30 pm. Thought maybe I would sleep 6-8 hours and wake up
at some weird time overnight and get back to compositing pics. Woke up 12 hours later in time to catch Meet the Press.
at 9:00 am. So almost 12 hours in the bed. Trip was great, shooting was only OK. Just ran out of things I had to shoot,
too many trips I guess, and got plenty tired enough to leave one great idea for another trip. Walked a 5hit-ton. Stopped
at a campground on the way home that we used to go to a lot in Mississippi when I was a one digit age. Still looked almost
exactly the same. Smaller, obviously, as everything from your childhood is so much smaller than you can recall. Took a lot
of pics and walked another good bit over there. Over the weekend I guess I walked about ten miles....weekend,lol, during the
2o hours between 7pm friday and 4 pm Saturday that I spent driving to or shooting in NO. 8 hours total shoot time. 12 hour
riding time. Merciless, but fully engaging and fun.
