I'm heading to Mexico soon and was thinking of picking some up.

One thing that came to mind. Generally I think tequila prices are slightly higher in Mexico than the US due to taxes. True, there are a few brands that are not made for export that you can't get outside the country (I believe Don German is one of those) but generally I don't think there will be any great deals to be had relative to what you can get in Texas.

Just a thought...

Here's my newest addition. I am much bigger fan of Mezcal than Tequila. Not sure if this is even sold in USA. This was bought in Mexico.

This bottle was from the "Tequila shop" on Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo. Most of my Tequila is purchased in Mexico. Can't beat the prices, but hate the plastic pouring spout; one sign the bottle is for domestic market

Specks in Austin is the other place, worth it -(P

I would agree with that put I was thinking more along the lines of picking up local tequilas that I can't get in the states.

I had the good fortune to try the D'Antonio a while ago and found it over-oaked for my palate. Would love to revisit as I really liked the Anejo from this line...

Slightly? You kidding me??? I get Don Julio Blanco for $18 at the Mexican Naval PX. I'd have to convert my other bottles as they are all in Mexico dollar price tags, but I'd expect any tequila to be at least 30% off.

I had the three Kah Tequilas last night and they were all delisious. The Reposado is 110 proof and surprisingly smooth. :dr

BUMP!!!!! I like my tequilas ok........

Question for you tequila nerds--> What do you suggest for Margaritas. I mean simple clean margaritas. NO MIX DAMMIT. I use fresh lime juice, Patron Citronge (cheaper than Cointreau and tastes the same), and maybe a dash of club soda.

So with that said....what do you suggest for tequila and do you have a killer recipe I should try? I do NOT like spicy tequila. Thats the only catch for me. Usually, I use Silver or Reposado.

montecristo#2 07-30-2011 02:41 PM

Re: Tequila Thread!!!

For me, I do not use mixes any more either.

Fresh lime juice, agave nectar and tequila. Occasionally I add water depending on what type of agave nectar I buy (pure versus diluted).

I know some people will say I am crazy, but I do like anejo in my margaritas. A margarita with Partida anejo is the way to go.

Lime Juice, Soda and Tequila. Plain, simple and refreshing.

I may need to give the Agave Nectar a try though :D

I did not even read this before I went to the store. Ended up with Partida Reposado. on sale for $32. GREAT stuff.

I mostly prefer Silver...especially Patron Silver
Reposado is also good, but I drink it very rare :)

Re: Tequila Thread!!!

I'm really stuck on Cabo Wabo Reposado. Loooooooooooooooooooove the stuff.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...s/IMAG0051.jpg

Either way I like Reposado in a Tequilla, not really a Anjeo fan. If you knew me you'd be shocked I even like Tequilla......Long story from a long time ago.

Anyway.

When I make Margaritas I use, fresh lime juice,Lemon juice, Cabo, Triple sec and Pineapple juice. Blend with ice and i'm good to go.

Picked up a bottle of Chinaco Anejo tequila today as I wanted something a little different than my favorite, which is the Don Julio Anejo. After a tiny sip, it does seem quite impressive. Unfortunately, it was $15 more/bottle.

Mostly depends upon how much you want to spend. Don Julio is always good. I also like Cazadores Reposado as a moderately priced yet tasty choice.

It can be had for $50-55/bottle and is what I usually have on hand. It's much better than the Patron Anejo.

What's the story with their new Anejo Claro?

Don't know anything about the Claro...

I just saw the ad in an airline magazine. Anejo does not age very long and are they aging it in wood that does not color it or is processed after it is aged?

For me Reposado is good balance of age without losing too much tequila taste.

I've only tried one resposado and for me, I found it to be quite peppery of sorts. I find the anejos to be much better.

The Claro is processed and filtered after aging.

Re: Tequila Thread!!!

So, I'm currently looking at tequila.net reviews and there are several highly rated anejos that are listed in the $35-70 range-more so than the very high priced stuff. It will be a miracle if I don't find a place and order several bottles online.

forgop 04-28-2012 01:30 PM

Re: Tequila Thread!!!

After looking at a number of reviews, I've got it "narrowed" down to just 13 anejos and having a hell of a time eliminating any of these:

1) Corrido
2) Don Pilar
3) Peligroso
4) Azunia
5) El Jimador
6) Casa Noble
7) Don Julio
8) El Tesoro
9) Siete Leguas
10) Don Lunas
11) 4 Copas
12) Partida
13) Riazul

I'd prefer to keep my initial tequila "inventory" to be about half of that size. So far, the "musts" seem to be Partida, El Tesoro, Don Pilar, and Riazul. Any suggestions?

From what I am seeing, Herradura isn't a highly rated anejo. Obviously, ratings are subjective whether it involves cigars or tequila, but I'm more inclined to start out with several that are rated much higher and sound more appealing from the tasting notes I've read thus far.

Espolon & Casa Noble are two brands of Tequila I quite enjoy; how are their Anejo's rated?

I took the mrs out for dinner and found a Mexican place that listed a tequila bar, so I had to check it out for myself. They had a great selection actually. I tried tha Partida anejo and it was quite nice. I'll be adding that one to my collection soon.

This is one site I came across: http://www.tequila.net/reviews-ratings.html

The casa noble has some good reviews and is one I had a miniature of once I recognized the bottle.

Tres Generaciones Anejo - May be the BEST there is.

Other Fav's of mine are Avion Anejo, El Jimador Reposado and Espolon Reposado.

For $20 a bottle, the Espolon Rep may be the best bang for the buck.

That's cheap! Is it normally that price? Would be a no-brainer if so. Costco has two good Kirkland Tequilas that worth picking up for mixed drinks.

Moses... That's the regular price. I promise you this stuff kicks, and is better than a lot twice it's price. The bottle has skeletons on it. Give it a shot. ;)

I bought a bottle about 4 years ago. Had no idea how much I paid, but enjoyed the bottle a lot. I only buy or get good stuff so assumed it cost more.
