Re: First Firearm Thread.

Well I went to buy another gun today, figured they didn't have it and the place has had 4-5 just laying around all the time.

I was going to grab a Nagant revolver, mostly due to dirt cheapness and the gas seal and the idea of firing a 223 out of one.

Just seems like a lot of fun firepower for 150 range. So I'll be on a hunt for one.

Firing a .223 out of a Nagant Revolver!???

That's a 30 cal bore.

Where did you hear about this?

Ace$nyper 01-14-2009 06:07 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Read in a Imperial Russian arms book, found a few spots on line.

Says it needs a hand load of sorts, I cant drop in a normal 223 though, but I'm kind giddy to try it.

From the wiki (appears to be copied out of the book I have)
Other cartridges—.32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Magnum, and custom handloads using .32-20 Winchester, .30 Carbine or .223 Remington cases—will also chamber and fire in the revolver but will not achieve the gas seal.

edit: http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?t=5415

Just use the brass, the book seems to kind leave that out...

Any of you guys own a Glock G19? If I missed the pic, I appologize.

I am seriously considering one of these.

I would get a Glock 23 (.40). It is the same size frame as the G19. You can buy a conversion barrel for it to shoot 9mm. Basically, you get 2 guns in one :tu

Go rent some to try before you buy. The glock gets alot of accolades, but the grip angle for me just doesnt work AT ALL. Its one of the most uncomfortable guns I've shot, especially in a .40.

You can find used or CPO 226's in your price range, but dont rule out looking at a P229, they're amazing.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Yeah, the Sigs are definitely the top of the top. If the SEALS carry them, they can't suck.

Ironically, last night at work, everywhere I looked there were Ruger and Team Glock shirts. Turns out there is a gun manufacturer convention in Orlando this week, but not open to the public.

I know I'm in a minority, but I feel that the Kel Tec P11 is the ultimate deep conceal weapon and with JHP +p rounds in it, is one heck of a good sidearm.

I really am looking for a backup that is both concealable, dependable, and extremely well built. The Glock 19 is in the front of the pack right now, although I need to try some of the others mentioned here.

I just started the process to get a LTC-A in Boston (unrestricted, concealed). Probably will end up with the A, non concealed, but that's fine. It comes down to the Police Chief's discretion, and 9 times out of 10 they do not allow concealed carry.

There's also quite a few hoops I have to jump through above and beyond the already draconian Massachusetts licensing process, but it will be worth it in the end.

Yea, I wish I lived just outside of Boston city limits (ie Cambridge, Arlington) as it would make it much easier. My safety class instructor lives in Arlington, and he said that the Police Chief gives everyone with good references LTC A unrestricted.

I forgot how complicated it is up North.

You can go to a gun show here and take the class for free and send it in and have a concealed weapon permit in 3 months max.

The class is nothing more than filling out paperwork, getting fingerprinted and hitting a taget twice from 25 feet.

It's the worst in MD, unless you're driving an armored car for a living or something similar, no permit. But I CAN apply for an out-of-state Florida permit that's good in more than half the country. Go figure.

it's awesome isn't it? it was so easy to get one i had a FL permit years before i moved down here. it took about a month to get it transferred to a residents permit.

BTW, if you look hard enough finding a new glock could be in the 400 range. not all the best deals are at the gun shows. i could put you in touch with someone who might run you a special if need be.

That is going to be hard. I am looking at the gun site I frequent and they are going for much higher that. I am sure you know that right now guns are going for a lot of money right now. Dealers can pretty much name their price.

I would definitely drive to Tampa. Headed to Ft Lauderdale tommorow though for a week. For a Glock G19 in good condition, it'd be worth the 1 hour drive. Heck, I'd love to take you out for lunch too Jeremy.

There seems to be a lot of people buying guns and getting permits, acting like Obama is gonna take away everyone's guns.

There's a chance he'll ban assault rifles, which I don't agrue with, but they'll have to pry my cold dead fingers off my guns.

Ok cool.

I've tried a bunch and it's pretty much the Glock 19 or save up for the Sig...

In other words, if I don't get the 19, I don't get a Glock.

If anyone is interested ableammo.com has 1000 rounds of PMC Bronze .223 for 449.50.

GhostRyder 01-18-2009 06:35 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Check out www.wisconsincartridge.com for .223. They are reloads, but a case of FMJs for $300 is hard to beat in this day and age. Sadly. Never had a problem with their reloads, and I am pretty picky about what I put through the Bushmaster.

I'll check out that case of PMC though. $449 isn't too bad. Although I'd proly go 5.56 for those prices.

Very nice! You can tell that the gun is new, and not used b/c you can see the copper compound on the slide that comes from the factory.

I've got a rifled musket that probably doesn't work any longer. Very similar to a Springfield 1863, but I think it's actually a European gun, maybe Prussian.

I've been trying to get a better ID on it, do you have any contacts who may be able to help out? The biggest problem is there are no brands or other identification marks that I can see.

Yeah, I was iffy if it was brand new, knowing my brother, haha. Hopefully be able to get my carry permit in Nov when I turn 21. Really wanna take it to the range, but I have to wait till he brings it home with him from UF.

509 is the cheapest that both of my locals can get a 19 for. i feel it's a ripoff but it's what the market is carrying right now. honestly i wouldn't pay that much for a glock. i'd be looking at a sig or a HK. or buy a used one. the price would be different they said if they had one in stock.

I don't think it is American Made. If it was a Harpers Ferry model it would be stamped. Its possible it was used in the CW and then shipped back to Europe for use. I know a guy who bought a carbine in Afghanistan and it was used in the CW.

I meant I believe it's European manufactured, probably shipped over here for use in the CW. The rifling pattern and caliber don't match anything US-made, but they're close.

I wish I could shoot it. The barrel looks to be in good condition, the trigger and hammer all work well, but the percussion nipple is corroded enough that there's no opening to the main barrel. I imagine antique gunsmiths are few and far between these days.

Most likely. Its tough finding those old muskets in good enough condition to fire and the ones that are are very expensive I wouldn't fire it. Still a sweet gun though.

I sent off an email to College Hill Arsenal and Tim Prince hooked me up. He says it definitely is an Austrian M1842, manufactured in 1848, and converted to percussion, possibly by Leman in Lancaster, PA, though the bolster is missing the clean out screw he used. He also said the cut stock was probably done in the 1920s, one guy (forgot his name) was notorious for cutting stocks to ship surplus arms in smaller boxes. He did tell me not to even consider firing it, as the Austrians used crappy iron that probably isn't any good 160 yrs down the road, regardless of apparent condition. Also valued it at ~$600. I do like the look of it, might try and find a functional repro just for fun :D

I'd definitely recommend Tim and College Hill Arsenal for anyone interested in CW-era 'stuff'!

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Alright I ordered 1000 rounds of PMC .223 ammo from ableammo.com. Tonight I recieved an email saying...

Dear Customer,

We have learned, that our PMC 223 will arrive the last week of February,
possibly the first week of March. We did sit down with PMC, and negotiated a
little better price. We also have negotiated with Fiocchi ammunition company a
good deal on .223 ammo. We wanted to give you our customer an option, due to
the delay on the PMC.

1. We can hold your order for the PMC, and continue to reserve it for you. We
will adjust the charge per 1000 round case to $349.50 per case.

2. We can offer the same load in Fiocchi brand .223 for $349.50 per 1000 round
case. Fiocchi, has notified us that they will deliver to us within the first
two weeks of February.

Both Brands of ammunition are brass cased 55 grain .223 FMJ.

Please let us know how you wish us to proceed with your order.

What Im wondering is should I take the PMC ammo or Fiocchi?
Has anyone shot either of these loads or know which one is better?
