Its not, and anyone who says today music suck lives inside the media's box. :sl

So how many of those bands do you recognize and have actually listened to their music?

My son is in his 20s and likes contemporary music but admits it pales in comparison to the true classic rock and roll bands.

I would have to disagree with you. Music today requires little talent. Most is mixed and not one singer today can touch record sales from those classic rock bands.

I think his point was not that today's pop music doesnt suck (it does, when one is looking at artistic talent), rather that there are lots of VERY talented musicians out there today, but they don't have the record sales because societies taste in music has gone south, way south.

Heard of all of them I can read. There's a couple I couldn't make out. I'm not a huge fan of the heavy metal bands in there, have a younger brother that is. I was kinda bummed Jimmy Buffet wasn't on the list!!! Or Little Feat, or the other southern rock groups!

My mid-twenties children are the same as yours, Peter. They like some of the people today, but much prefer the 70's and 80's music!

They have a better grasp of the bands now, then I had then!

I agree wholeheartedly, Cliff.
My question was directed to Devan because I believe there is no comparison between the posers of today and the classic bands.

Music is a subjective topic. To say there is no comparison is an ignorant statement. If your listen to Top 100 I'm going to agree with you, the Top 100 is music that is created in board rooms. If you dig deeper you start to uncover artists who aren't in it for the money and fame.

On the other end of the spectrum if you are looking at it from a money standpoint then no artist today will ever reach what I'd say artists before the 90's reached, maybe even the 2000's. Look at the Beatles, Elvis, Johnny Cash. They were known around the world and active for decades. Where as it seems like artists now a days die out after 5 years.

Again all this is subjective this is my :2

Sorry to continue this tangent but I can't help it. Today's music by en large sucks. There is no rock. Funny thing is when kids now get a taste of real rock they go nuts, they love it. Rock stations are dying off. Classic rock stations live on but new rock, if you call it that, sucks bad.

BTW, I liked Metallica. I'm not fond of Alternica. Last good CD/album they released was the black album. But I digress.

Anymore I listen to country. At least I can relate to it. Modern rock is a bunch of whiny petulant kids at best and at worst it's the Goth/Emo movement on meth. :td Classic rock was never whiny. It wasn't about screaming and sounding crazier or angrier than the rest. It had melody and guitar riffs you can still hear in your head decades later. It grabbed you. I just can't say that about today's wannabe rock. Today's pop doesn't even need to be bashed. Even its fans know it's crap with a short shelf-life.

Wow, lot's of music snobs? Listen to what you like and like what you listen to. I think I've heard that somewhere :D

On a side note, before you trash the music that someone else grew up on remember that YOU have MEMORIES tied into what you like. Hanging out with friends, getting laid, etc. Things that make that music special to you. Kids now are tied into the music THEY grew up with. As far as most of them are concered Classic rock is the crap that thier dads made them listen to in the back of the car on the way to grandma's house ( I have an extreme hatered of Roger Whitaker thanks to my dad)

Personally I enjoy both. I used to work at a radio station and the PD always said "Never trash any song you don't like, because it's someones favorite tune.":tu

I'm always a bit surprised when someone in their twenties or younger likes the Classic Rock I grew up with.

She's a Brazilian sportscaster IIRC, I forget her name offhand, but those photos made the rounds a few years ago so it shouldn't be too hard to find. I'll see what I can find.

---
well, that took all of a second to figure out.

Her name is Ines Sainz. And I was mistaken on the country, it was Mexico, not Brazil. She was also the one that got into the sexual harassment hub-bub with the NY Jets last year or the year before when she wore "inappropriate attire" into the locker room for interviews.
