Re: Game of Thrones

I'm about to start A Storm of Swords, perhaps this coming weekend after payday. I've got a couple of zombie fiction novels to get through first though, easy enough reading.

I'm really kind of glad that hopefully by the time I get to finishing Dance with Dragons the next novel will be on it's way out!

Ratters 07-11-2011 12:30 AM

Re: Game of Thrones

Ha, that's funny, I got the four book set, but too have a couple zombie novels I gotta get through first. :D Just started Among the Living today.

blugill 07-11-2011 05:43 PM

Re: Game of Thrones

I love the amount of zombie fiction available to the Kindle. Bargain priced as well!

J.L. Bourne is my favorite!

Ratters 07-12-2011 12:51 AM

Re: Game of Thrones

Yeah, I read his first book when it was all posted online. Looking forward to the third book coming out. I just finished Patient Zero last week and enjoyed it. Just gotta finish Among the Living and this book One so I can get them back to the people who lent them to me then I can start Game of Thrones.

I was a bit pissed as I was planning on buying the Kindle of GoT but it was ten bucks cheaper to buy the four book set. Plus sposedly the Kindle version was missing some pages for some of the people who downloaded it. Does the Kindle version show the maps and stuff?

Re: Game of Thrones

I am going to start reading the books to see if I can get any more out of them. I am a huge fan of this genre, or at least I used to be. So I hope it was just something about the production of the TV series that was throwing me off.

Beagleone 08-24-2011 09:03 AM

Re: Game of Thrones

I saw the series when it was on earlier this year and was really impressed. Once the season was done, I went and downloaded the eBooks to my iPad. Two months later and I am completely finished with all five books. I am really excited to see how they are going to pull this off. This is fast becoming one of my favorite books and TV series.

Lonely Raven 10-05-2011 12:52 PM

Re: Game of Thrones

I just finished book Four, and I'm looking for an audiobook of 5 since I refuse to pay hardcover prices.

Damn these books are long winded. Great story, great depth, but he goes into a bit much description of what people are wearing (often in long lists), and the marching order, and who begot who. I think he's trying to much to be JRR Tolkien.

I'm really, really impressed with how well they pulled off the first season of the TV show. If this is another show that doesn't finish all seasons before being cancled, I'm going to be PISSED! Looking froward to Season 2!

I dunno...I didn't get bogged down too much in his description of things. If that bothers you though, never ever read the Wheel of Time, half the book is descriptions ;)

There are tons of descriptions in these books. Every meal, every feast, every course. I can't tell you how many times I've read "Ceseri broke her fast on...."

But those descriptions carry over wonderfully to help paint the picture that is Westeros. You can picture the utter cold at the wall by the descriptions of the haunted forest, The utter brutality of size of Gregor Clegane by the way men describe him, and the hideousness of Brienne of Tarth just cause well men are just really messed up to her lol.

Brutus2600 10-05-2011 01:35 PM

Re: Game of Thrones

I guess I didn't phrase that well. What I meant was although there are descriptions of quite literally everything, they weren't that noticeable or bothersome to me and like you said, painted great visuals of what was happening in the scene :)

That's a great example of how I feel reading these books. I enjoy a great description, but he tends to do LISTS. IMHO, lists are just to fill word count, not for great writing.

Love love love the series!! Am so going to go out and buy the books. Bring on season 2 (which will air months later in NZ...bugger).

I got the set of 4 books at Costco last month. Haven't had a lot of reading time lately, but it's slowing down at work, so I might bring one with me soon. :)

And for the record, the wife and I dressed as Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen for Halloween. :p Unfortunately, there was only a handful of people who knew who we were. :(

Ah, ever the last one in, I just watched Episode one and two and I am absolutely gripped.
What nards, to pull out a Olde Werlde drama like this, and my goodness, they are hitting it out of
the park. Does it stay good to the end, or does it get crappy like some Elizabethan "Lost" ?

Re: Game of Thrones

Jeezus, just finished all ten episodes and apart from what seemed like the falling apart of the barbarian storyline near
the end it was all pretty great. And even then there was this icon of things to come with the dragons that says
this is gonna get freaky deeky in 2012. To bad Sean Bean had to die, he's always good. But how else to spur
on the full measure of revenge that was coming even before they chopped his head off, haha, well, look out.

OLS 01-21-2012 09:54 PM

Re: Game of Thrones

Such a harumph on page 8 or so about S. Bean getting offed, and I could see that, and I was pi55ed, too.
But of course, like I said above, this is what will drive the hate and revenge that will run the second season.
But it got me thinking, who do I like? Of course, the 'little lanister' is great, and I think it would make sense
if he ends up being a good guy who helps bring down his family. He DID not like it when they put him out front
in the supposed big battle. I thought it was hilarious when he got hammered by that big mallet during the charge.

And Man do I love Aya Stark, (sp). Her dad kept trying to shove that mommy role down her throat and she was not
having it. Now she is gonna slice comeone's co(& off to be sure. It also looks like she is going to become a woman
right onscreen, kind of like Hermione. Whoopsie. But someone's a55 is grass.

I also think the redhead Ros, the whore's a55 needs to be elected president of the riverlands or something, too.
My God what glutes. That white skin and perfect body just knocked me out. Put the dragon lady's face on her
body and you have something even better than the original, which was already spectacular.

Don't worry Bill, there will be plenty to dig when the show comes back. Of course, they will likely drag the revenge
out for 14 episodes. I hate that.

I am sure most have seen this trailer, but it seems we have been mis-informed as to the launch date for the

Was disappointed tonight's episode went by so fast. I have read all the books and I will tell you all like I told my wife. Keep watching and you are all going to be pissed off. George R.R. Martin is an excellent writer but at the same time is a complete ****tard at writing. You will all see what I mean. It only gets worse.

I agree, it was slow. But, i think it was necessary. They have to catch the audience up so that the season can really start to progress. Set up episodes to me, are important.

How about that last scene with the guy taking the bastard baby by the leg before it's certain execution! Was crazy! :O

Haha, I never heard of Rickon, I thought it was another joke, like iron man.
So I looked it up and sure enough, there WAS a little fu(ker younger than Bran.
In my haste to get it up, I wasted an attempt to make it look GOOD. Glad someone

Best part for me last night was watching Seirci and Littlefinger in their private conversation when

Oh man was that episode something! As was expected, they fleshed out some of the places they were
going with that "the story so far" first episode. I will not spoil but I will say that Cierci does seem to get the
last word on everyone she deals with. She takes a punch really well, but man when she hits you back, look out.
She is the absolute definitive Ice Queen. And apparently its WIDELY rumored that she is a incestuous ho.

Other than that it is nice to see Tyrian be what he is apparently set to become in season 2. I guess its
being a little person that makes him see past all the politics and pettiness and lean so far towards what is
right and not right. Who knows what else he might do in the end that we won't like, but for now he is great
to watch work.

That was confirmed in the very 1st epidode last year....now everyone else is starting to find out.

So far she's slept with her brother and fathered 3 children by him and she's rolled in the hay with her nephew too.

Incest, incest is the best put your sibling to the test!
