They do tend to shart their pants in the playoffs.

Arrrrrrrghhhh drop the puck, I need my crack baby . Have not looked at the schedule yet is the NHL still cowering to the NFL on edit Sunday nights?

Tip just checked the schedule. No late Sunday games during football.

Nice first for the Avs.... Would have liked to see them take advantage of some of those chances, but Turco has looked good.

Turco is having one heck of a game between the pipes (thus far).

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

The Pens Flyers game very good. Liked that one and Philly shut down that 6-4 at the end. The Flyers are back and Legit! This may be their year. They will definetly make a deep run again.

The Hawks Avs game was likely the best first game of the year I have seen in many years. Hawks PP and Forwards looked great. Their D looked not so good at times. Colorado seemed to be able to expose them at times and their speed really seemed to be an issue. Turco looked great at times and not so good. Anderson looked pretty good. Both teams had puck luck at times.

Saw highlights of the Edmonton game. They will be fast and much improved this year.

Tomorrow the Sharks play, but I dont know if the game will show much. SJ and the Hawks story this year will be the D and their goalies. Both teams will bring the firepower.

One thing is for sure the West will be wild with a lot of scoring.

Was a hell of a home opener to be at. A win, Modano scores in his first game on his first shot as a Wing, a shutout, and Datsyuk dropped the gloves and held his own!

:sh I watched almost the entire game, and I'm trying to think when Hartnell was being Hartnell (don't get me wrong, I know exactly the type of stuff you're talking about - being an agitator). I know he tried to follow up a rebound and skated recklessly into the net...is that what you're talking about?

The one play I couldn't figure out was the Interference/Unsportsmanlike concurrent penalties with Carter and Anderson. I understand the call as it was a bit of both, but why in the world did they let the play continue and then allow the draw in the Flyers defensive zone? If they were concurrent minors, the draw should have been either at the end of the penalties or the neutral zone. Could have been a big factor. :sh

It was not just the flying through Anderson. He was doing stuff that seemed to get my attention all night. Nothing huge, just little stuff that I would think….what a douche. My original comment was actually after he ran someone at the net after the whistle. Don’t remember who it was, but they didn’t appear to be near enough to Bobrovsky to get his panties in a bunch.

I have no idea what happened with the Interference/unsportsmanship…. I was all ready to go on the powerplay & what would most likely turn into a 6-4 and then they open the door in the Avs penalty box…. I never did see the replay, I was a little agitated....

Yes….why no whistle, letting Anderson go to the bench…??? It was odd….

Pretty funny stuff. Avery isn't the most popular player in the league (with other players that is).

lets see what the NHL does about that lil gesture done towards avery. everyone flew off the deepend when avery made his comments. granted he shouldnt have said what he said, where he said it, but any man would have said that in his shoes. alot of people including his current coach said there is no place for avery in hockey. as a professional athlete there is no place for what either of them did. but you wont hear much about disciplinary actions cuz this was done by wiezwho? i watched this game yesterday cuz i am a life long rangers fan and i couldnt believe i had seen what weiznewski did.

Wiz will get a suspension, a Blackhawks defenseman got one for a less-offensive gesture during the preseason.

But saying Avery said what "any man would have said that in his shoes" is bull. I wouldn't have, nor would most of the hockey guys on this thread, but we all have a ton more class than Avery does. :2

Niklas Hjalmarsson suspended for two

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=337210

Suspension makes sense to me...it was an ugly hit but no intent to injure and Hjalmarsson doesn't have a history of being a dirty player.

An unfortunate event that sometimes just happens, hopefully Pominville will make a full recovery.

I just watched it on youtube. The first angle they showed (where you could see both players' faces) looked a lot dirtier than the angle from behind where you could see he didn't raise his elbow. Definitely a suspendable hit though, IMHO.

Two games means Hjalmarsson's first game back will be Saturday against...the Sabres. That will be an interesting game to see. I'll be watching baseball though...someone (cough - Tom :)) let us know if there is any retribution.

I didn't think Nik would get more than 1 game, I know he fely bad about the injury. I heard Sabres coach Ruff say he knows that Nik isn't that kind of player, so I don't look for anything but clean, hard checks by the Sabres on him on Saturday.

I saw that hit on youtube. IMO it was a dirty hit. The victim didn't have the puck, nor was he even near it. He was hit from behind. The angle Niklas Hjalmarsson may not have a history of this kind of play but it was pretty bad.

Forgot to mention the Wings/Avs game. I only caught the 3rd, OT, & SO. I have to say I think the SO is wearing thin. Not because we lost, but it's novelty has worn off quite a bit. Not that I have a better suggestion on to how to break a tie, just not loving the SO. What do you think?

You are listening too hard to the "homer" Buffalo announcer, Mike...Nik arrived right as the puck arrived to Pomminville's feet. Unfortunate, yes, but dirty....no way. If you call that hit dirty, then Kronwall's hit on Havlat a couple seasons ago was criminal.

There was no doubt it was a dirty hit. The puck was there but it was clearly, a board and a hit from behind. Right after I saw the hit I said 2 games(and so did a couple IceHogs that I was sitting with), which is what he deserved and what he got.

The problem with hockey suspensions and the NHL is that consitency is not one of their strong points at least as of late. It would be interesting to sit in on one of these disciplinary hearings at some point to see hwo things go down. Maybe I will be able to do that one day:)

Upon a closer look the puck was at his feet. It was passed to Pominville and Hjalmarsson got there pretty much right as the puck did.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-4aH7nnPjc

Hjalmarsson did hit him from behind, not directly behind, more of a 45 degree angle from behind and to the side. Hjalmarsson hit Pominville where Pominville could not have been expected to see him coming.

Havlat was circling. He was skating forward, facing Kronwall when he was hit; both his body and his head. Havlat was skating, turned his head to find the puck to his right as he circled left, it went between his legs as he straightened out along the boards, so he looked down to find it, and then looked up just as Kronwall was about to hit him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KJm-qcnnC0

And, his feet were on the ice when contact was made...
http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/05/zapruder.jpg

That said I don't think Hjalmarsson was trying to hurt him. He just took a bad angle on a well timed hit.

I know the Kronwall hit wasn't dirty and was from the front, I was exaggerating to make my point, Mike, but you are right on all counts on that one. I agree that Nik wasn't trying to hurt P'ville and it was an unfortunate result.

I am not disputing that it was an illegal hit, Matt...I take issue with calling it "dirty", as I don't believe Nik intended to hit him from the side like that. :2
