Re: Your favorite album
I keep seeing Elton's "Mad Man" mentioned, but I much prefer his "Tumbleweed Connection" to any other album he has ever done. Just :2 , and worth every penny.
|
Re: Your favorite album
Don't get me wrong..."Tumbleweed Connection" is a better album in my opinion as well, but, I have more of an attachment to both "Mad Man" and "Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road." I was raised listening to a lot of EJ..."Blue Moves" and "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" are also favorites of mine..."Amoreena" is such a great track...

Re: Your favorite album
Well, it's good to know I'm not considered completely nutz in that, brother!
Oh, another essential album is Blind Faith (I've forgotten either the name of the group or the album's, but I can't remember which :D), especially the one with the "dirty" cover. |
Re: Your favorite album
Would like to recommend a couple more favorites.
1)Return To The Tomb Of Guiliano Medidici by Restavrant. "This Texas duo’s raging garage punk influenced swamp rock that guarantees a good night out. Banjos, guitars, and some extremely interesting percussion (oil drums, boxes, license plates & whatever else they can pull from the local dumpster!…) plus a heaping spoonful of hillbilly = GOOD TIMES. " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swQd_thOdw8 2)Other Way Out/Other Way In by Sun Dial. would be considered psychedelic rock. This was something I stumbled onto awhile back and feel in love with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMlF6_DxdSo 3)Unknown Pleasures, Closer and Substance (for "Love Will Tear Us Apart")by Joy Division. Would fall into the post-punk category. Started around from 1976 to through 1980 with the death (suicide of the singer Ian Cutis). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PldpBJEn4vQ Hard to mention Joy Division and not New Order. 4)International by New Order. New Order was a New Wave band that formed from the remaining members of Joy Division after Ian's death. The single Blue Monday is one of the top selling singles in the UK. Still enjoy putting on some New Order from time to time. Both bands were connected to one of the most bizarre record companies ever, Factory Records. If you liked either bands I would suggest the movie "24 Hour Party People". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3duUzBbBmmc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH-Gz...eature=related 5) Dress for Excess and Flaunt It by Sigue Sigue Sputnik. They're a New Wave band but also called cyberpunk (love that). Great tunes with layered vocals, electronics, great samples synthesizer bass lines and more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5kcKU2I1HI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIaUTR3YsGo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4AH4...eature=related |

Never heard of Restavrant or Sun Dial. They are both very, very good. I an leaning more towards the Restavrant. Too bad they don't have a downloadable album that I can find on CD Baby or the rest. Looks like I'll be old-fashioned and get the CDs. Thanks for the links! MCS |

Re: Your favorite album
This thread has done wonders for me lately.
Getting some great music from Jazz to Hardcore to Rock and everything in between. Thank you all. I am having so much fun with this. Oh and I can I be a huge Alice In Chains fan and never have heard of Mad Season???? What's wrong with me? LOL |
Re: Your favorite album
Kicking this back up for some more action. :tu
So far I've become addicted to Mofro and the White Stripes. Lisa is totally digging the White Stripes, too. I was surprised to see they did the song on Napoleon Dynamite. I'd have never put that together. Incredible duo, it's hard to believe all that talent comes out of a divorced husband and wife. It's a damned fine thing to see. :tu I'll add these two nuggets... Blue Orchid - The White Stripes My Doorbell - The White Stripes Those two videos are easily in my top ten videos of all time. I'm not sure who did them, but I'd love to see more of their work. The imagery in Blue Orchid is incredible, the whole video plays like a ton of black and white stills. The Little Rascals theme in Doorbell is too cool. |
Re: Your favorite album
Lou Reed--Metal Machine Music
|
Re: Your favorite album
Porcupine Tree - Fear of A Blank Planet
Funky progressive rock. Think new era Pink Floyd, though they won't ever be that popular. |
Re: Your favorite album
Silversun pickups are a new favorite of mine.

Never paid any attention to the White Stripes until I heard "My Doorbell" on a progressive radio station a couple years ago. I missed the lead-in so I had no idea who the artist was, but found out and bought "Get Behind Me Satan". Album blew me away, besides the 2 songs you mentioned, some other great ones: "Denial Twist", "As Ugly As I Seem", etc. Been a big WS fan ever since. |
Re: Your favorite album
Seriously my all time favorite lp is
Bee Thousand by Guided By Voices. I probably listen to Robert Pollard and his many bands more than any other musician. |
Re: Your favorite album
Besides the already mentioned Aqualung and Quadrophenia
Viva!.......Roxy Music Red Headed Stranger ......Willie Nelson |

First album "Kill 'Eem All" is fast and aggressive. "Ride The Lightning" is also very good. Similar style as the first but more melodic "Master of Puppets" is my favorite Metallica album. It has a little bit of everything they do well "And Justice For All" has their best individual song "One" on it. As a whole another good album "Metallica - Black Album" is the one that launched them into the mainstream. This album brought in many new fans without losing their most of their core fans. I'll spare my comments on their newer stuff; they're not positive. Aside from that I've gone to primarily a country music fan. Some of my favs: Gary Allan "Tough All Over" Josh Turner "Long Black Train" Josh Turner "Your Man" Johnny Cash - "At Folsom Prison" Kenny Chesney - "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" Toby Keith "Shock'n Y'All" George Strait "50 Number Ones" - Which actually has 51 songs that hit #1 on the country charts Not exactly country but I love their blues/latino blend. Good stuff: Los Lonely Boys "Los Lonely Boys" |
