The guys at Gander Moutain in Knoxville offered me $650 for the Python. Guess I will wait until the next gun show to see what she brings.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Anyone got anything new or working on anything?
I ordered some goods this past week and now it's the waiting game.... |
Re: First Firearm Thread.
Got 3 AR lowers coming in tomorrow supposedly from the Fathers Day sale. A threaded barrel should be here Saturday for the XD. yesterday picked up an AR7 survivalist just because the price was right, more of a novelty item I think, feels cheap, but a 22 plinker. Next week I should have the Ti-rant 45 take down tool in.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
just picked up a Springfield 1911 Range Officer yesterday

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Very Nice Tim, but why do you still need something to carry? Put either of those in a Crossbreed Holster and your carry problem is solved.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
RX2010 Can you post a picture of the rear site on your 1911. Im wanting a differnet one for mine.

well, I bought the 1911 for shooting at the range, it's way to heavy to carry The XD is possible, but it's a bit large as well. I was thinking about a Glock 23 (gen 4) to carry, but really, something a little smaller would be better. It's hot here |

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Thanks that the factory rear site on that model right.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
yes, adjustable
I've not shot it yet, but I haven't shot a pistol without night sights in some time. I may need to put a white dot or something on the front sight, but we'll see I might end up liking it better |
Re: First Firearm Thread.
Ordered some goodies and they all arrived this past week. Waiting for the shop to call and say my rifle is ready to be picked up. Getting pretty excited about putting this all together and shooting it. :noon

Here's an old photo of some of mine.
http://pic.phyrefile.com/b/bl/blind_...8/img0527q.jpg I've added a few to the collection since then, including one of these: http://pic.phyrefile.com/b/bl/blind_.../main-1765.jpg Also a Mosin Nagant and a Remington .22 semiauto rifle. I'll see about getting some photos of the complete collection, I have them around here somewhere. |

My newest. Lots of folks seem to hate the Browning BDM, I love it.

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Tim I may suggest if the XD feels weird to you sell it off. I know a number of people who have picked up XD's, put a couple hundred down range with it, then it becomes a safe queen because of the feel.
If you want something nice and trustworthy to carry I would suggest a S&W-M&P9 compact, or the 40 if you like 40 cal. Hell you can even go .357 compact in the M&P line. :noon:noon:noon |
Re: First Firearm Thread.
Friend of mine had to be first kid on the block to get a Kimber Solo 9mm. So far it's been a real disappointment. Will not work with 115 grain ammo at all, you must go to 124 or 147 gr. for functioning. My buddy's Solo has additional feeding issues, it's been back to Kimber TWICE already and still, no joy.
Hopefully this particular handgun is an anomoly but somehow it doesn't seem like it. Kinda reminds me of the old Seecamp .32 acp semiauto--they only worked right with Winchester Silvertips, everything else was a gamble. While I can appreciate the idea of a gun being sorta "specialized"--in the case of the Solo, for self defense--if it's finicky or requires expensive ammo, who's going to fire one of them enough to be competent with the thing? |

Re: First Firearm Thread.
Anyone know of any dealers with a Glock 24 in stock? I had one located a couple weeks ago but bought a Range Officer instead. Now I forget which dealer it was and haven't had any luck with google searches. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: First Firearm Thread.
My Kimber Solo went back to the shop twice for multiple problems. It's been replaced but I've yet to fire it. My view is Kimber pushed the design to the limit. Any limp wrist, weak ammo, etc. and you have problems. Mine had FTE issues even with ammo that's on the Kimber bullet list.

What are you shooting? I'm still toying with 175 gr .308 loads and am pretty consistent with 10" steel. 8" is 'hit or miss'. I can't keep the .308 supersonic and it's always moving a bit. Even more so when it gets Florida hot. I'm interested in building a .338 'something' When are you heading back this way again? My range is only about 2.5 hrs south of Brent's place. |
Re: First Firearm Thread.
Picked up my rifle at lunch today and put what I had on it after work today. Still waiting on the titanium can to be made and I have to drop the rifle off to be threaded next week. Last thing I want to order is a good cheek rest. Here's what it looks like right now. Factory test firing produced a .24 group with 3 shots.
