It is very enjoyable. Not the be-all-to-end-all of coffee brews, but definitely not bad.

My personal favorite in that category would have to be the Bell's Java Stout. A bit pricey at 16 or 17 bucks a six-pack, but sometimes it is worth it to treat yourself.

the Stone/Firestone Walker/21st Amendment El Camino (un)Real Black Ale...

the anise comes out in this one, I like it. Has a very slick mouthfeel, almost oily on the lips.

Dogfish Head Aprihop here. I ususallydo not like american made beers with fruity flavors as they usually overwhelm but not hear. The apricot is subtle.

I had a bottle of this last night, surprisingly it wasn't bad.

I'm with you on fruity flavors.

Just poured a Hirschbrau Hefeweisse from a flip top bottle . Very light and a bit lemony . Nice and cloudy in the glass . I prefer my Hefeweisse un-filtered but this one is filtered .

Really enjoying some La Trappe that Simon (SmokeyNL) gave me at the Amsterdam herf. Great beer, may require a trip to Belgium just to get some more. :al

The Deschutes line was a staple for me when I was out west. Guess they are slowly making it east. The porter is one of their best for sure.

Made it home this weekend and picked up some Trout River Hoppin' Mad Trouts. Easy drinking beers, going to be out of my sixer before the sox even start tonight.

Opa Opa Vanilla Bean Porter.

I've enjoyed this. Not the best Porter I've ever had, but a very solid beer.

And at $6.00 per growler fill, how could I ask for anything more. :dr

Who wants to share their local beer bars with the class? Here's mine:

And yes, the bar is really like that. Maximum capacity of about 60-70 people, and they don't tolerate asshattery. Kind of like a beer nazi establishment, it is:r

Todays haul.

I got a few more packs of Ale Asylum Ballistic. It's on the way out for the year so I grabbed a few to stick away. I should last me through the summer (maybe, I might need to grab some more if I can find it:r).

Also some Goose Island Bourbon County. I heard it was tasty from someone in here. :D

Sorry Vic. :r

I also just noticed I placed this pick in what beers are you enjoying and not in the hauls. ;s ;)

But I plan on having one of those GI tonight. :tu

Alright so first off Vic didn't lie about the Goose Island BC. This is a thick flavorful beer and also the 13%abv doesn't hurt. :r You can't help but notice the chocolate, coffee and vanilla.

I look forward to comparing side by side with a KBS. Might have to split them with someone else.

Went out for dinner with my daughter. Had 2 pints of Deschutes Black Butte Porter. This is really a fine porter. If you like porters or stouts, try this for sure.

Gonna give a Norwegian Russian Imperial Stout a try this evening.
Nogne O..... anyone ever try this one?
Thoughts?

My first impressions were molasses, caramel, vanilla, and something a little fruity/floral mix.
The floral may have been imparted by my cigar though:rolleyes:

I can only get it in 24oz. bottles though.

Worked from home today, had furnace issues. Did a side-by-side comparison of Deschues Black Butte and Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald porters.

Quote:

Visually, both allow a bit of red light in through the glass, but BB may be ever so slightly darker. The head on the BB is ever so slightly tanner too. As the head subsides, the BB is sticking to the wall of the glass more than the EF.

The nose of the EF is maltier. I really don't notice much aroma at all from the BB. The EF smells like malt brewing on my stovetop.

The EF is a bit sharper in flavor. Certainly drier, and a little more astringent. Malt is front and center here. The BB is definitely sweeter, with the coffee and chocolate notes more pronounced. BB has a softer mouthfeel too.

It's a tough call, but personally I give the nod to BB. I'm sure that EF is the more traditional porter, but I find BB to be more complex, and more nicely balanced.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?

Cracked open the first of a 4 pack of Oskar Blues GUBNA Imperial IPA (10% abv 100 IBUs).

Poured into the glass with little carbonation but with a beautiful golden hazy color. Stuck my honker into the glass and....

WEED... and I mean dank weed. Not a hint, not a note, not a similar aroma, this beer smelled like it was dry hopped with marijuana. I smelled it every time I took a sip and while off putting, the beer itself was a monster, and quite tasty.

I thought I was nuts picking up on the bud smell, did a google search and apparently lots of others noticed it too. Weird, but worth a try, even at 4.00 a 12 oz. can.
