I love massive Stouts, but if you had this, judging by your comments, I would think you would think differently. If I recall it was a fairly thick beer with significant bourbon flavor. It is 11.6% abv. I'm aging the other bottles I have.

If you've ever been to the DFH brewery in DE, this beer has it's very own fermenting vat made out of palo santo wood. Very aromatic, and very very dense wood--the beer actually smells like the wood it's fermented in. I have a picture of the vat around somewhere, I'll try to find & post it.

That Indian Brown Ale tastes so damn good, the hint of sugar in it really works.

But as for beers, I know this will probably be blasphemy, but I have been actually enjoying:

21st Amendment Brew Free or Die IPA in a .....GASP... CAN. Its no DFH 90min. or Green Flash WCIPA but still, 9.00 bucks for a 6'er, damn fine sessionable IPA IMO and if you haven't tried it and dig moderate strength hopiness (7.0 %abv) then its def. worth a go. Its amazing opening a can of beer and no matter how many times I open on (5 thus far) I can't ever get over the fact that it doesn't smell like Coors or Miller Lite.

Just got back from the Minneapolis Town Hall, a great brew pub here in Minneapolis. It's March 31st, and it was warm enough to sit on the patio! 75 degreres!

Had a Masala Mama IPA, an H20 Oatmeal Stout, and a Pot of Gold Potato Stout. All 3 were great, and I love a nice oatmeal stout, but you just gotta love the Masala Mama. :tu

Last night at the W.H.A.T.:

All were good but, as usual, the SN didn't impress me too much.

Looks like a nice line up there Greg.

I know I might get blasted for this. But Sierra Nevada and Great Lakes don't do much for me at all.

The GI Bourbon County Stout is HUGE. I mean HUGE. :r

A bigger beer than the KBS. More bourbon, more dark fruit, more coffee, more malt, more alcohol, more everything.

When I poured this, it was like pouring motor oil. Black as night, and thick. Very little head, probably because of the high ABV.

Having said that, I'll say this again:
"Goddamn! That's a pretty ****ing good milkshake. Is it worth 5 dollars? I don't know, but it's pretty ****ing good!":banger

Because it's bigger and more intense I think it's going to age better than the KBS. Not to say the KBS won't age well, even after reading that one thread I still think KBS will improve with time.

Which is better? I don't know. I didn't dare do a side by side comparison, I have no desire to pass out on the floor, :r

In the end they are very similar beers. The KBS is not as big, a little sweeter, and has a certain something that the GI does not. The GI is more intense, has more bourbon, more wood, etc. and will cellar better I think, and it's slightly more accessible. The prices are similar, with the GI being slightly, and I mean slightly cheaper. A couple of dollars per 4 pack cheaper at this level is not going to make a decision for me one way or the other.

Both outstanding, and I'm glad I have them both.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?

Thanks for the review on the GI Vic. I will have to keep my eyes open on the next trip to the store and maybe do comparison with a friend on GI/KBS.

Just glad you were able to stay off the floor. :tu
