Quick question.

A friend is getting rid of a Canon Speedlite 430ex. Would this work with my D5000 or would it break something (like, voltage wise)?

Thanks!

I think it would work but I don't know that I would suggest it. The contacts on the shoe are different for each manufacturer.... so you would run the risk of those different contacts potentially causing problems for the flash and/or the camera. Not to mention you wouldn't be able to use ETTL.

used a 580EX Speedlight with a D70 years back (only thing I had that day, made do). As best as I can remember, It WILL trigger the flash (manual flash power), but it threw the camera into frequent error modes requiring a power cycle or possibly even a battery pull. So in other words, EXTREMELY DISCOURAGED!

The only way i could see it working safely is using a hotshoe to PC adapter then syncing the flash and camera vial PC cord.

This sit is usually very helpful.

Got the nifty fifty 50mm f1.8 in the mail yesterday (Abes of Maine or actually NJ ;) ) and it's clearly better than the kit lens. Worth the 100 bucks. Great for portraits as you can get tight depth of field.

And I thought I was bad carrying all my gear on my person at a wedding, but you got me topped by a mile! (I didn't exactly have a 400mm 2.8 slung over my shoulder!)

Ill pay for them but you bring them to Florida. I hear there is some good stuff in the north west.

The 28-75 is made by Tamron. Would you suggest otherwise for a $400 lens? with the same range ish?

Tamron or Sigma.... I think its pretty much personal preference between the two. Both are 2.8 I think, so are fast enough. However, not sure how sharp they are @ 2.8
