Enjoyed a bowl of H&H Marquee Black House in my Boswell Poker. We've been having some rain and drizzles the last few days here in SoCal. Mild weather this evening on the patio and a pipe seemed to fit the bill this evening:tu

Tonight its Peterson Sweet Killarney in a Joby Rusticated Poker
great sweet tasting smoke

On tinned tobaccos do I really need to let it sit out to dry for a bit before loading the pipe? Ive noticed the last couple of bowls are hard to keep lit and smoking hot

That is what I do if the blends are a little moist or sticky. I have noticed that GL Pease blends may be moist out of the tin but do not require drying time to keep lit. But, for everything else I usually sit them out for 30min to an hour until they are just a bit dry but not crunchy. I am assuming the pipe is getting hot as a result from puffing to hard trying to keep it lit.

This AM on the way to work Christmas Cheer (1999) in my Boswell:tu

Re: Whats in your bowl?

I'm going to have to try and lay some out and see.

Right now I'm sampling all the tobaccos that Tallman gifted me - need to slow down and learn how to smoke them
Guess I also need to find the right blend for when I don't want to wait- a non aromatic I'm guessing.

Has anyone seen a post or article on what pipe shape/size is best for different tobaccos (aromatic vs non)?

Yesterday and today
Marlin Flake
Macbarren Burley
Christmas Cheer 1999

I've now reached the point where I am experimenting with the fold and stuff method with flakes. So far so good, I have had better tasting bowls and longer burn time between lights.

Some CAO Moontrace in my Poker

Can't stand the CAO flavored cigars but is really nice. Mild flavor but can make out the hints of the vanilla and honey. The bourban isn't as strong but it is there

Some GLP Haddo' Delight in the Boswell Poker. This is some really dynamite tobacco. Burns great with very few relights and great flavor through the nose:dr

Been toying with picking-up an 8oz tin of this, and an 8oz of some bulk C&D Old Joe Krantz (another fine favorite)...

When stopped by my B&M to pick up a couple of cigars for this weekend's cook, my proprieter gave me a couple of ounces of their house blend Black Cherry. If anyone is interested, pm me your addy and it's yours, free to a good home. It's a little too close to a Swisher Sweet for me, but someone else may enjoy it and I hate to let it go to waste.

Thermometer reading 60* on the patio late this morning, which required some H&H Marquee Black House in the Boswell Poker. This is really a nice tasting blend created by Russ Ouellette at P&C:dr

Sounds like a winner there Mark. I looked it up on tobacco reviews. How much a part does the Latika play in the mix?

Left some Trout Stream in my drying bowl last night so used it to fill my first pipe today - this stuff is really good by the way. The description is a mixture of Golden Cavendish Slices mixed with a sweet Black Cavendish.

Paired with Samul Adams Old Fezziwig- the best winter beer in my opinion

The Latakia is there, but its not a monster Jake. The Latakia marries well with the other tobacco's in this blend, and provides a wonderful complexity. Its a medium strength smoke with lots of smoky types of flavor, spiciness, and subtle sweetness. Its wonderful. Perfect for a cool day or evening. When I opened my tin, the tobacco had just the right amount of humidity for a good burn. In essence, it wasn't "wet" or "damp" out of the 2oz tin. It has remained so in the Mason jar as well. Its a great English blend!

Chappy, you're turning into a regular pipe tobacco connoisseur...:banger

Re: Whats in your bowl?

Yes........ I am afraid I've got TAD and PAD bad but I wouldn't go as fad as calling my a connoisseur yet. :sh

This is worse than the slippery slope of cigars - good thing it is much easier to control the cost.

You ought to see my list of must try tobaccos :(

And of course all the pipes I would love to have.
