BTW, accompanied these with a 3 year old Saint Luis Rey (Honduras) Rothchild. One of my 2 favorite cigars to pair with tequila.

just got home from 32 hours of driving and decided to pick up a bottle at the duty free, got this tequilla i've never heard of or tried called Gila, apparently named after the Gila monster. I'm no aficionado, but i think it's pretty good. It was only 28 USD on sale from 40 at the duty free

We drank "Fina Estampa" Reposado on the rocks yesterday in my back yard along with a RA Belicoso.

I vowed not to buy any more Tequila, only Mezcal, so I have like 20 bottles that I want to polish off to make new space for Mezcal only.

"Fina Estampa" is a great value and excellent brand. Might be very difficult to find in most markets. Picked it up a Spec's in Austin.

My absolute favorite sipping tequila would be Clase Azul, I haven't had anything as smooth as this. It's a little pricey, so it's only pulled out on special occasions.

For regular days, my favorites are (in order):

Don Julio Anejo
1921 Special Reserve
7 Leguas Reposado

I'm new to Tequila - I swore it off after vomiting too many times drinking cheap Tequila in my youth. Two years ago went to Mexico and was able to drink all of the Don Julio 1942 I could stand - which was quite a bit!

Anyway, other than straight, any favorite recipes you BOTL'es can share?

I like some Tequila. I hated it for years, due to not knowing quality. Having said that, it doesn't hold a candle, flavor wise, to a nice bourbon or scotch w/ a cigar. Just my opinion.

Hey my friend, it's been awhile!

Nice collection!!!

Partida is my second favorite Tequila at this time in my life. The Anejo is remarkable. Do your self a favor and try a bottle of Casa Noble, which ever style you favor. For me, although I really enjoy Anejo, my preferred choice is always a Blanco/Crystal/Silver, you get the idea.

Hey Johnny - it has been a while.

Yeh, I tried a 50 ml sampler of the Partida Anejo and it was unbelievable, so I grabbed the silver and the reposado as they were out of the Anejo. I may grab a bottle of that tomorrow at a different store.

I will definitey try the Casa Noble - I will look for a 50 ml sample to start.

I hope all is well!

Here is a collection of some of my favorites:
http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/pictur...pictureid=4249

I also like single malt scotch and I think Tequila goes just as well with cigars as other drinks. It all depends what you are in the mood for. Sometimes it's water, sometimes it's coffee, sometimes it's scotch and sometimes it is tequila.

There is no right or wrong, only what you like.

I bought a 50 ml of the Corzo today to give it a try. They also had a 50 ml of the Asombroso Extra Anejo for $25. This is the first time I have seen one of the ultra premiums in a sample that size. I almost pulled the trigger, but since I have not had any of the other ones, I figured I would pass.

How is the Asombroso Rosa?

I also have a bottle of the coffee Patron, but it was not in the picture.

I have liked the margaritas I have had with Cazadores in them, I have just not gotten around to buying any yet. For a medium priced Tequila, it is pretty good.

I have also had El Tesoro Platinum and that was pretty good as well.

I love seeing Tequila collections!

One of my favorite recent drinks has been 30-30 with juice of 1/4-1/2 of a lime over ice. Since it has no sweetness in it doesn't really taste much like a margarita. Just a nice refreshing sipping drink.

CigarNut 06-10-2010 10:07 PM

Re: Tequila Thread!!!

The Corzo is OK -- but I prefer Cazadores much more than Corzo. The Asombroso Rosa is good -- especially since it is so different from other tequilas. The Patron XO Cafe is perfect over shaved or crushed ice!

Cazadores is a solid product at a great price. Very popular in Mexico and the 1L bottles (some much bigger) make Cazadores a good choice for those who drink Tequila regularly.

What a great thread!

Like many, I had more than my share of bad tequilas in my 20's but have now recovered. :) I have enjoyed Patron Silver a lot and thought Cabo Wabo Resposado was pretty good. They are the only two "better" tequilas I've had since my recovery. ;) I made it a point to look for Casa Noble Crystal at my local liquor store today but they didn't have it. Surprisingly, not a very good selection actually, whereas otherwise they have a great selection of spirits/wines/beer. I hope to find it soon!

Really, I just wanted to bump this fine thread. :D

Your bump was a good idea, this thread needed to be awakened from the dead!

Casa Noble Crystal is worth the search, it's amazing and not too highly priced. In the mean time, don't hesitate to try either Don Julio or Don Eduardo, both very, very good/excellent!

I had a few shots of a tequila a few weeks ago and can not remember the name. Hopefully one of you can.
The bottle looked like a "I dream of Genie" lamp. A small ball as a base with a tall very slender neck (about 6-8"). It was _____ Azul maybe??

Help? I want some more!!!

Thanks for the recommendations. I seriously considered buying a bottle of Don Julio while there but decided not to. My bottle of Patron isn't at the critical stage yet. ;)

Penca Azul silver is my go to, I've drank their whole lineup though. While pricey it is some amazing stuff. I always wanted to try casa noble crystal but it is not available to me. Never bit the bullet and bought a don julio real yet....

Never been much of a Patron fan. I think it is waaaaay overpriced and definitely overrated. It is decent, but I would never pay over $30 for it. No one really even touches the stuff down here in little Mexico. My go to's are Herradura, Cazadores, Pepe Zevada and a very small distillery called Cavalino This stuff is simply amazing. It beats ever tequila I have ever had by a large, large margin. It is stupid cheap too at about $23/ 750ml. IF you can find it. pick it up.

Was picking up some beer/tequila at Total Wine the other day and I came across a pretty neat looking bottle of a tequila called Espolon. Now, I'm not one to spend money on labels so I was just curious if anyone had tried this and what they thought. I was gonna get it (only $18) but when I looked back in my basket, there wasn't a single beer I could live without lol.

Here are some of my recommendations guys...

Cabo Wabo --- Blanco
Maestro Tequilero --- Blanco

Chinaco --- Reposado
Milagro Romance --- Reposado

Casa Noble --- Anejo
Milagro Romance Reserva --- Anejo

Tres Leguas D'Antano --- Super Anejo
Chinaco Negro --- Super Anejo

Here you have a one great TEQUILA HERRADURA SUPREMA, smooth as silk.

It's no wonder they charge $35 A shot when you can find it.

The company, ask that you break the bottle when you are do with it so that it is not fill with cheap stuff... It is aged for 49 months, WOW!!!

In that case...

There is a place on the malecon (main drag) called Casa Del Tequila that has a decent selection as well as some open bottles that you can try before buying. Any cab driver worth his salt will know the place. They also get some of the harder to get bottles. Two of the higher-end and boutiquier brands that I've tried are...

- Don German 3yr (~$75/bottle)
- Los Abuelos Anejo (Same)

You can save about 10-15% by buying from a LaPlaya but you cannot sample before buying there - they may not have some of the more esoteric bottlings available. I've heard really good things about the 70th Anniversary bottling of El Tesoro but it was a limited run and prices may be over $150. Casa Del Tequila would be best to ask about this one.

If money is no object, perhaps Casa Noble Single Cask bottles may be of interest. Not sure how much the Anejo bottling is, but I heard it is a 5yr old, and that means $$$. Casa Noble is a very well-regarded brand though.

Gran Patron Platinum (Blanco) can be had for ~$220-$230 a bottle. The $500 bottle of Patron is the Burdeos (Anejo)

It's definitely an experience I will say that. However in general I found it too smooth and lacking in the flavor department. It was unbelievably smooth though I mean I could have funneled that bottle. However mine lasted me 6 months. 3 days out of 6 months but still.

Ah. Up here (Toronto) we found one for $450 and when family went to PV for a visit the price they quoted...I don't remember but it wasn't much cheaper than the Toronto price. Sounds like the booze taxes where you live are pretty good! I only had a couple of samples, but I remember it being well-crafted, balanced, and flavourful. Wonderfuly smooth but with enough flavour for me to complain why it wasn't cheaper.
