Re: First Firearms II

My dept. just got 3 Wyndham Weaponry .223s for the patrol cars. I've tested two optics so far that are "cheap" and I can't recommend them to the boss man. Anyone have other red dot type optic suggestions? Boss was on a entry team and he wanted Colt Commandos with full auto but this little dept. doesn't have the funds for those or the Trijicon sight he had either! If money were no object we'd be ok. We might and I say that with a big gulp, might be able to float $600-1,000 total for 3 optics.

I run an Eotech and it is perfect, I have the short bodied XPS that takes the standard 123 battery, love it! Other guys like the small Aimpoint, personal preference I suppose.

Take a look at the Vortex line of optics. The SPARC II is only around 200 each and is a great micro red dot and it carries a lifetime, no questions asked guarantee. ;) I have one on one of my rifles and love it!

You can also look at Primary Arms. I have no experience with them but they get great reviews as one of the best budget options available.

Aimpoint PRO possibly.

Anybody here like Browning High Powers? Lately some Mark III models have been imported from Israel. They were police/military issue for many years. I would guess there can't be that many left in the supply pipeline. Conditions vary but I just got a pretty nice one for about $500 plus tax.

New production BHP's run about twice that. And since FN/Browning has gone full tilt into making polymer handguns now, I believe the day of the High Power is coming to an end soon.

The code only takes off $147 for a total of $442. Wish I could have gotten one at the $250 price. That would have been awesome.

Anyone considering new Glock 43?
I think I am sold, just going to wait for hype to die down and price to normalize.

That's a great little carry piece right there.

Haven't heard much about them. What's supposed to be different with the 43 vs their others on the market currently?

Glock model 43 is a single column 9mm. A bit bigger than the G42 in .380, but closer to it in size than any of their other (double stack) offerings.

Guy at the range let me try out his model 43 last week. Very comparable to the 9mm S&W Shield in handling, recoil, etc. as you might expect.

I just pulled it up online. Smart idea to do the single stack. Is that Glocks first attempt at doing a single stack design?

Nah. The 36 I believe is a single stack .45 ACP. I think that was their first.

Brian D. 05-07-2015 02:01 PM

Re: First Firearms II

Yeah but the G36 is almost as chunky as the double column G30. Both are in .45acp by the way.

And yes emo the G42 is a single stack .380. I have one and rather like it. However it cried out for "pinky" extension floor plates on the magazines. For me it made the gun a ton more shootable but still fits in a front pocket.

I've only once laid eyes on and handled the legally-very-hard-to-import Model 28, a double column .380. It is the same size as the models 26 and 27, as best I remember.

I've been out of the loop with glocks. Last one I owed was ten plus years ago and I sold it within a year of having it. They shoot well and function well but I keep going back to nineteen elevens.

Gotta love doing the hot brass dance. ;)

Love the challenge of the range with flip flops for that special hot brass between toes effect. :r

Flynnster 05-08-2015 09:53 AM

Re: First Firearms II

Luckily the range I go to most often has some nice screen barriers that you can roll down to keep that from happening!

One of my buddies has a shotgun that I swear ejects shells about 15 feet. We always make sure we are on the proper side of him when shooting clay or else a shell will smack you right in the face!

I got on Glock's bc its our dept. issue, I carry the G22 duty carry and G42 BUG. 1911's look cool, and have alot of history but I couldn't imagine carrying it on my hip all day, even CCWing I'd be scared my pants would fall off:D

It could be me or just the weight of fun but I find the recoil to push gun at you rather than flipping tip of barrel up. Makes it super easy for a tight grouping.
The sound of a 45 going off is priceless.
Only negative is weight but I always say if it jams, I'll throw it at their head.
It's my bedroom defense weapon with a Crimson Trace just in case.

emopunker2004 05-17-2015 09:22 PM

Re: First Firearms II

To me the 45ACP round pushes more than 40S&W. To me the recoil impulse of the 40 is more snappy than 45.
