Not sure its about teaching. I think you either have it or don't have it, and as far as IT is concerned, Mariano has IT like nobody else. There has never been anybody like him, and likely there won't be anybody like him for a long time.

Yeah, like a ghost from the past.
Now there is still 2 from the core 4.
Is the game on TBS?

Andy looked pretty good most of the game. The offense seemed to take the day off.

Its something new for yankee fans, but welcome to what its like to be a fan of any other team. Insecurity at closer is just something that you have to get used too.

So do I

It's going to be tough for the younger guys who don't remember what it was like before Mo and the almost always save at the end of every game.

I'm not one of those younger guys, so I do remember what it's like not having him there.

Add Robertson to the list of players on the DL. Waiting to see if they put Nova on it also after his ankle injury.

Bats are aslee

perhaps they should sacrifice a chicken in the locker room to wake them up...along with some rum for Jobu!

One out of two for the Reds. Dusty is notorious for putting up the B-game lineup on sundays...

Mo would've never gotten into last night's game. :2

What you miss is ,
a) A Phil Hughes that can get somebody out who already has 2 strikes on them, and
b) a Yankee bat that can actually get a hit with the bases loaded!

I agree with A and B

I disagree about Mo however...I think Girardi would've put him in to keep it at 8-8, especially the way the bats were swinging against Angel pitching

at least mostly swinging :(

C'mon Mike, you know better than that.
There's no way Joe Girardi is using his closer on the road, in a tie game, in May.
If he was going to do that, Soriano would've seen the hill last night.

Lots of variables go into when MO was used or not.
If he needed an inning, if they arent leading the division by 2 or more games,
i`ve seen him used many times to keep it tied in the 9th.

Yankees beat the Rays tonight to pull within 1/2 game of first place. Andy Pettitte looked as good as ever tonight going 7.1 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits (should have been 1), and 10 K's.

Hopefully Cano continues that HR stroke for the rest of the year. As for Jeter he needs to figure his swing out. Dropped his average almost 100 points in the last month.

Nothing like interleague play to get everybody back on track. Also interesting to see that 'poll' with Swisher and A-Rod as most disliked players, considering how often you hear about other players being a 'cancer' in the lockerroom.

What poll, disliked by who?
A-rod, is not popular, ask him if he cares.
But he works just as hard and feels just as bad when
he isnt playing well.
Swisher is pretty much well liked around the league.
But hey, people love to hate.
Play ball.

BTW, how many people have a guy wearing a #13 helmet in their cigar tag?

what a bad day. Andy convinced Joe and Donahue to give him a chance and then almost fell down on the next pitch. I'm just hoping for a .500 record over the next 40 games to be honest.

Injuries are never good, but at the very least it happened before the trading deadline, and now you can go get Matt Garza.

Awfully grim outlook to have considering they have the best record in baseball. :sh
The Yanks don't need dominant starting pitching to win.
They just need their starters to keep them in the game until they can get into the other team's pen. :2

I don't think we will need him.
CC is only missing 2 starts and was shut down as a precaution.
Honestly, as it stands now, I don't think anyone in the East will catch them.
Tampa will probably make a run, but they don't have the sticks to keep up.
Toronto is decimated with injuries, and Baltimore just isn't ready yet.
Boston still has a long way to go, I think trading Youk is the beginning of a complete overhaul, I think they will be sellers.

I wouldn't rule Boston out. They are going to get Ellsbury back in about a month, Crawford in a couple weeks. If A. Gonz can get going they are going to have a scary lineup.

I agree, just when it looked like a lock, something goes haywire.
Never seen so many pitching snafus in my life.
The Sox are not done yet, we just havnt been cooperating, they`ve been winning lately, and when they get the other 2/3 of the outfield back.
