I think that is just Collins being optimistic.

Mets debut uniform patches for Carter

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets debuted uniform patches in honor of late Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter on Thursday, wearing them on their right sleeves. Carter's nickname "KID" and his No. 8 are stitched in white on the patches, in the center of a black home plate with white trim. The Mets plan to wear them throughout the 2012 season.

Carter, who won a World Series championship with the Mets in 1986, passed away last month following a nine-month battle with brain cancer. Dozens of past and present Mets attended his memorial in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., the following week.

"Fred [Wilpon] came up to me before the memorial and said, 'Do you want to put these on the uniform?'" manager Terry Collins said. "I thought it was terrific. We found Sandy [Carter's wife] when it was over, and Fred and I told her that we were going to put them on our uniforms. She was certainly thrilled."

Sadly, this will be the only right thing the Mets do all year.

Maybe, with the patches, the team can channel some of Carter's energy and spunk on the field.

Today's Mets news...

Mets treating Davis as if he has Valley Fever. Club, first baseman awaiting test results from blood work.

And the hits just keep on coming. :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

I drove into work and caught a David Wright interview the other day and heard him say "its going to be a fun year"

I ask you this, for who?

Certainly not the players, certainly not the fans, and with what I can only guess will be miserable attendance, certainly not ownership.

I have nothing invested in this team anymore, and will not root for them until the ownership group is either forced to sell by MLB or sells because they can't afford the continued losses.

Waiting to see how long it's gonna be before Terry Collins becomes the first manager in MLB history to have to go on the DL. :r :r

I'm trying my best to stay out of this conversation. Trying to avoid still having any loyalty to the Mets under the wilpons.

I'm starting to know what a battered woman feels like after she leaves an abusive relationship.

You guys should give it a shot.

Maybe you guys will know. Im moving to FL in april, and am going to loose my mets on tv. Is there any way to watch them online or am i going to have to pay 125 bucks for the mlb ass on ps3.

MLB Extra Innings (went up from $ 149 to $ 179 this year), MLB Network (catch the Mets every now and again), or MLB.coms package are the only ways I know. :2 Not really sure you want to watch this year...it's gonna be rough. :r

Unfortunately Chris, the Wilpons aren't going anywhere.
Their financial woes have been grossly misreported.
This is evident by the recent "sale" of the minority shares.
The minority shares that were sold, were sold to the Wilpons, Wilpon family members, and Wilpon business interests such as SNY.
What the Madoff scandal has done, is forced the Wilpons to keep the Mets revenue with the Mets,
SNY revenue with SNY, and the same for the real estate revenue.
The lack of co-mingling their money has left them short on the Mets side of the ledger.
The "sale" was a way for them to infuse cash from their more profitable business ventures to the struggling Mets.

I think the Mets are looking at 2 lean years, they will clean out their bad contracts, and then become major players again.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

I'd like to think you are right Dom, but I'm not really sure.

I think its just a matter of time before we find out what really happened, and I'm only interested as it effects the team. I think its disgraceful that in this market a team is cutting that much payroll, and basically abandoning any chance of winning.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

BTW - we should all go to a game, a Brooklyn Cyclones game. Odds are we will see just as much major league talent if we do.

Former Met AND PHILLIE Lenny Dykstra was sentenced to three years in prison for what I believe was grand theft auto, amongst other charges. KNUCKLEHEAD!!!!

I think the plan is for the players to steal them and the Wilpon's to fence them.

Mets beat the Cards in a split squad game today 8-6, Santana pitched two solid innings. In the other split squad game, dubbed "The Battle For Worst Record In The NL", the Mets got beat by the Astros 4-1. Wright has yet to make an on field appearance this spring. :bh

The mets steal from the opposition, ownership steals from the fans.

Mets beat the Marlins split squad team yesterday 7-0. Was hoping Reyes would have played...so we can stick it to him. Turner had a big day and Neise looked really good. :D

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

As we go down to the Marlins today 504, Pelfrey gives up 4 earned runs in 2.2 innings...glad to see he's already in mid-season form. :bh :bh :bh

I can't wait to see all the starters hit the field at the same time. Especially the in-field. I'm curious to see how they are going to play together. I still have faith that this season isn't going to be a total loss.

Wright hasn't played an inning of spring training. Tejada keeps getting a few innings...Murphy at second is gonna be UGLY, and is Ike over his "desert fever"? :D

Mets lose to the Nats SS today 8-2...Dickey gives up 5 earned runs in 3 innings. Hard to believe the pitching staff is already in mid-season form. :bh :bh :bh

Mets drop a rain shortened game to the Marlins today 4-2. Santana pitched 2.2 strong innings today. The Marlins didn't have Reyes makes the trip so that he wouldn't have to deal with the media. :td :td

Pansy. He's still got his head in the sand after that crap performance to win the batting title.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

More good news:

David Wright joined a cast of the walking wounded in Mets camp. The Mets sent [Wright] to New York to have his left rib cage examined, and likely have an an "ultrasound-guided cortisone shot," GM Sandy Alderson said. Wright is one of several Mets, including outfielders Scott Hairston and Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who have suffered from rib cage/oblique issues this spring, leading the Mets to adjust some of their training routines. "You better believe it's troubling," Collins said. ... "This didn't happen twenty years ago." In response, Collins has ordered his players to put more effort into stretching exercises, make sure to stay hydrated, and reduce the amount of swings taken during batting practice.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

In a 7-1 loss to the Cardinals, Pelfrey strikes again.......

Mets starter Mike Pelfrey left some pitches up early on, and the Cardinals took advantage. Freese, the World Series MVP who also had a three-run homer Monday, hit a two-run shot over the right field wall with one out in the first inning, and Molina led off the second with a homer to left.

Pelfrey gave up four runs on six hits in 4 1-3 innings.
