Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
There is always a "continuation" with human referrees and clock operators. It was a stupid passing decision to
throw to that receiver at that spot on the field with that little time on the clock. Plain and Simple. If you are going to do that stupid kind of thing, you make up your mind and throw the ball quickly, down yourself quicker, and hurry to the line for the FEW ticks you have left after the chains move and get another pass. Just another of the bad decisions Garcia and the Ole' ball Coach made on the day. When he called that last time out I almost came out of my skin. You spike the ball. You don't have TIME for four downs, who cares if you lose one. but a LOT of stuff happens really fast. It happens to everyone. |
Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Exactly, Brad. They shouldn't have put themselves in that predicament to start with. Spurrier should have told them in the time out - no longer than a 3 count before passing and hit the deck when you catch it. Breaks my heart none, though!
|
Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
That's it in a nutshell. I take nothing away from Spurrier and his team, EVERYONE makes bad decisions now
and again. In our frame by frame slo-mo, after-the-fact, internet pundit world, it's far too easy to pick apart the decisions.....BUT, they were BAD DECISIONS. Dropped a bomb on the East, though. Opened it up like a watermelon hitting a sidewalk. I see new hope for a few teams. |
Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Hats off to my Bama brothers, y'all looked really good. Gators didn't look particularly bad, y'all just out muscled us in every position. Dissapointed that our D line didn't impact the game as much as I thought they would but impressed at the Gator passing attack. Ironically, our passing (which I thought would be our weakness) was much better than our running game (which I thought would be our strength). To sum up, I don't think Florida is a bad team, we just are not an elite team yet, which Bama clearly is
But this is a young and talented Gator team that will learn from it and get better :tu Bring on #1 LSU in Baton Rogue :D |

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Well, finally got to see a Bama win in the swamp. I missed the '99 game because a buddy of mine (who is a gator alum) was getting married that day in Atlanta. I was there back in 90 or 91 when we just got rolled, and I was ther for the last go round in '06, I believe, when we had a chance coming out of halftime but just couldn't stop them. We left no doubt Saturday night.
Oddly enough, I heard a stat that coming into that game we were actually 7-2 against UF in the swamp, and here I am going, damn, why is it every time I show up we lose? No more. :D And I gotta say, when you put the females of UF and Bama together, wow. Make a man write bad checks. |

Looks like the Ol' Ball Coach is putting Garcia on the bench. I hope he gets his 5th year degree. He's gonna need it.

I hate to say it, as much as I like Spurrier, but I think Auburn is a poor team this year. I'm picking them to lose at least four more games (Ark, UF, LSU, Bama) and maybe five playing at Georgia. To have a chance in the SEC you gotta beat the teams u're supposed to and USC couldn't do it Saturday :2 |
Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
I think Garcia progressed up to last year. He has taken leaps backwards this year. These are freshmen mistakes he is making. Auburn does suck this year. That should have been a huge win, not a stupid loss. I am not giving up on the boys yet. We will have to see what Shaw can do. If he can keep it together and the O-line can get him some time, I think they will recover. THis BS of handing to to Lattimore very play has got to stop. A short pass here and there plus a deep ball a couple time a quarter to Alshon plus Lattimore on the ground should keep the ball moving.
I am also curious to see what this Damiere Byrd kid can do with a QB that does not throw all INTs. |
Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Im happy with the annoucement to bench Garcia, we have to use Shaw at QB next year and Garcia is preforming terribly so why no put him in, to at the very worst get him the experience under pressure.
Plus as others have said, he cant preform worse than Garcia has been. |

It has taken me a couple of days to get over that a** whippin' that Bama put on us, but congrats to Greg and Ritchie. I will dang sure be pullin' for Bama in the west. Hopefully, we can do our part and take care of HellSU this weekend.

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Struggling with USC vs Kentucky with 19.5 points. Kentucky isn't that good, but for every score they put up Carolina has to keep that 20 point buffer. Want to side with Kentucky, but they've let me down all season. Don't know which Shaw shows up.
Also the UGA and Tenn game with UGA favored by 1.5. Tenn is at home, but they have been hit or miss, as have UGA. My first inclination says go with UGA. Just might do that. |

I'm not sure how bad Auburn is going to lose to Arkansas... any thoughts?

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
I think that as bad as Garcia looked this past weekend, and it was apalling, he is suffering the same fate as
Jarrett Lee last weekend, a TON OF DROPS. I thought he looked great in broken plays running the ball, threw a few nice passes that should have been caught...but I agree, you can see a lack of film study and a lack of field vision at this level of experience. The game should be slowed way down for his brain, and it still looks like he can't see the field at all. Looking for a much better outing for LSU this weekend at home, sorry Gator fans, we'd all like your starting QB in there this week, but I bet he is secretly THRILLED to be sitting. The new guy looks REALLY CAPABLE, so this looks a bit like a trap to me, but LSU escapes, 45-23. |

SC looks game today.

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Well. Shaw looked fantastic. I am not sure if it actually his playing ability or the fact that Kentucky really sucks. Overall a great game, but they really need to control the penalties.

Coupla teams looked good today, even FLAs defense woke up. A couple times anyway.
I saw a good showing by the Gamecocks, some say KY ain't much, but no matter the opponent, recognizing open receivers and having those recs catch the ball was a good start. WEIRD the Tigers not playng at night, tho. Speaking of Tigers, we need CLEMSON in the SEC EAST. |
Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Congrats on the win Brad!!

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Naturally my reply is I didn't win ANYTHING, lol, but since I am nearly on an island here with my fan-dom,
(except for Silound who doesn't seem to post in this thread) I guess I will accept credit on behalf of the No.1 team in football, hehe. Now I guess no one will have much to make of that til the Bama game. Just like my feelings going into the Saints-Colts Super Bowl, I have no doubt that the LA boys will come out on top. I just KNOW it....it's pre-destined. You'll see. Everything on paper says otherwise. But I have a feeling. |

I just wanted to pop in and say I am OK. :r

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
You live and die by the SEC, second week in a row of playing a team that very possibly will win the national title. LSU looked good, although I took it a little personal when yall Tebowed our @ss and did that jump pass lol.
As a side note, first time since 2005 that I was not in Death Valley to see this matchup, I missed the gumbo and Cajun ladies :D |

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
Ahhh, how I do love an occasional break in the pre-Saturday stress. Matt Simms, who will step in for Tyler Bray
for UT versus LSU, told a local reporter when he was asked how it feels to be thrown into the position of facing LSU wih almost no time to get a decent coupla weeks prep time as the starter, and he said, basically, Hey, I was the QB LAST YEAR when we played em tough to the end, had it won, and they stole the game from us." Point taken. BUT, no one steals a game from anyone, especially not LSU. You get beaten by your own mistakes when you play the Tigers. If anyone remembers, we take a ton of offensive talent and only do pretty well with it. Our defense makes it happen, and they also capitalize on every mistake you make. So with almost no ground game to speak of this year, and a memory of a 124 yard performance by your back LAST YEAR, you think you are gonna be able to haul off and throw 50 times against the Tigers? Hehehe.....TIGER MEAT. Looking forward to the games this weekend. Coupla quick notes......LSU has had 24 different players make tackles behind the line of scrimmage in 2011...hello. LSU will not play a SINGLE SEC night game in Tiger Stadium this year. But on the bright side, all these re-scheds have allowed me to miss only ONE game this year in MEMPHIS, TN with NO CABLE TV. Not bad. |

Re: Official SEC Football Thread 2011
To me the saddest thing is that it took Spurrier so long to do anything about it. He has NEVER EVER been happy
with SG, so why the long wait? He could have developed 2 QBs in the time he wasted. But any QB that agrees to go to USC as long as SS is there is a glutton for punishment anyway. |

Well... when I saw this year's schedule I knew an O for October was possible, but I sure figured we would find a way to win one. I think we can beat the freakin' Dawgs so maybe I will still be right!!!
I already told my wife she had to find somewhere else to watch the game this year (she's a Georgia fan) as I will be in rare form for this one!!! |
