Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
Seems Francis has been drinking too much of the 'shine. :r :r :r
|
Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
yeah, I discovered that about 1/2 a cup of watermelon blunts per 2 gallons, finely ground up in a blender or coffee grinder, really serves to expand the character of the shine :)

Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
Just finished up two batches for Doms herf next week...ended up with 17 quarts (as I always keep a quart for my own personal consumption). Now to make some new labels for the herf. :r :r

Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
What's this almost talk? I would definitely drink it from anywhere on Eva Mendez's body. Had this drink once before but I don't think it was made the same way. I'm interested to see how much better this one comes out. There's obviously going to be variations but I'm looking for the same results....tasty and tipsy.

Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
Current version of the recipe that I have been using is included below...
Mac's Applie Pie 'Shine Prep time 5 minutes Cook time 45 minutes Ingredients: 1 gallon apple juice 1 gallon apple cider (make sure to get a legit cider, no value stuff. It makes for a better product.) 1.5 cups white sugar 1.5 cups brown sugar 1.5 tablespoons of Vanilla Extract 8 cinnamon sticks (again, get a legit brand. Spend the extra cash. McCormicks are perfect) 1.5 (750 milliliter) bottles 190 proof Everclear grain alcohol 8 shots of Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka Directions: In a large pot, combine apple juice, apple cider, sugar, vanilla extract and eight cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let cool completely (overnight preferred). When juice mixture is cool, Stir in the grain alcohol and and vodka, then place in jars. Store in fridge. Before serving, shake the jar (cinnamon residue will sink to the bottom), pour in a cup of ice, and drink up!! As for shelf life, I've stored this stuff in the fridge for over a year, shook it up and still tastes delicious. :dr :dr :dr Enjoy!! :D |

Have you thought of getting rid of the vanilla extract and using real vanilla bean paste---I wouldn't cook it but mix it with a little of the Everclear to thin it into a liquid and then mix it in. I think 2 sticks would be good to start. Should give another boost to the depth of flavor. |

I'm hypoglycemic and followed this recipe almost all the way. All I did was substitute Diet AJ and Diet Cider for the real things and used Splenda. I also threw a few pinches of Apple Pie Spice in it to recover what was probably lost by using diet drinks. Mac, the sugar free (probably about 5g of sugar per serving actually) has been a hit this football season and has even travelled to my gf's family reunion in NY and applauded. No one complains about the sugar free version. It does taste much better with a couple weeks worth of rest. Party on! |

I would go with the Madagascar Vanilla beans. Quote:

Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
Mac, I know I am a little late to the party, but thanks for posting the recipe.
I made up a batch this weekend and everyone that has tried it, loves it. |
Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
Glad everyone enjoyed it James. :tu Nothing better than some liquid apple pie. :dr :dr
|
Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
I plan on getting the supplies and making up a batch soon.
With the high % of alcohol I doubt there would be any spoilage if un-refrigarated. Gonna check out my theory by vacume packing a jar and seeing what it is like in 6 months....course I will keep it cool. |
Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
Hey K! We need to talk...

Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine

B was thinking along that same line of getting a bigger pot but my burner would tend to make a single hot spot in the middle of the pot; and with all that sugar in the mix...probably burn. Much rather make up 2 separate batches. Thanks Y'all ! |
Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
I have some left over from last year that ill have to dig out of the frig and see how they are. I also grabbed some fireball whiskey that I'm going to throw in the next batch later this year.

Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
I made a batch of this about 2 weeks ago. I had to make my own cider (could not find cider hereabouts...the 20#'s of Gala apples only cost me $10.
I also use some whole All Spice, clove and vanilla pods...when first made up this is some potent stuff...but I think it will mellow out some. Here is a link to some pics. LINK |

Can I freeze some good cider in its own jug and then make this in the summer? Probably a dumb question :r:r

Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
Was curious if the cider would taste different.
At Cider Hill farm where I use to live, obviously they make cider, and I noticed they sell whats leftover from the fall in the summer and its frozen in the jugs. Didn't know if anyone had any experience with that. But after reading this page (should have done that first) seems like this stuff keeps really well. Might as well just make it now. |
Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
I've had some in the fridge for almost 10 months ago and it still tastes fine. :dr :dr
|
Re: Mac's Apple Pie Shine
Thats awesome. I will just make some this week and attempt to not drink all of it.
I made a batch from the original recipe in this thread and liked it. How is the evolution compared to the original? Just a refinement of the recipe? |
