I use a bean grown in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua in an Elektra espresso machine. It's the best espresso I've ever had.

I gotta say -- I Love My Nespresso! It is sooo nice to pop a capsule in and get good rich espresso with lots of crema without any fuss and without having to remember to turn the machine off.

This morning I had Ristretto :D

Captains Brew

Which recently apparently went out of business. Perhaps I should store the rest somewhere safe eh?

Or Not.
So Confusing! Drama!

Heh, either way the Captains Reserve French Roast is actually pretty damn good, quite frankly.

Some medium roast Caribou I brewed at home and brought to work in a travel mug. Will need more later though so I'll end up drinking whatever is cooking away on the burner in the break room.

I order raw green beans. I roast at home in a
Westbend poppery II.
Today i am drinking some Papuan.
I save 1000.00 a year by buying the Poppery on ebay
for 20.00 and green beans cost on average 6.00 lb.
When possible i buy only fair trade organic beans.
Yeah it sounds stuffy, but its also economical, and leaves me more for
guess what, CIGARS.
ROASTING MUST BE DONE OUTSIDE

What are you roasting with?

Even with my Behmor and it's famous "smoke suppression", not possible without setting off the fire alarm.

Dying to know your secret...

Lately, I have been roasting a lot of Liquid Amber espresso blend from SM and have been loving it, and the darker roasts.

Roasting well into second crack and the smoke, combined with my cigar smoke, has put me under a haze, all through my brain.

I've been drinking a lot of eithiopian Yirgacheffe "michelle". Don't know what the michelle part is about - I haven't had a chance to ask the roaster I get it from. He does it american roast. Outstanding - and I'm usually a dark roast lover.

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

Brazil "Sul de Minas"
Our local roaster did this in a city roast. Very nice. But he also did a darker roast for espresso. I had one at the shop today - amazing. The bright and almost citrus impression I get in the light roast drip coffee makes a powerful fruit sensation in the espresso. Best espresso I've had since he did another single origin espresso with an ethiopian Sidamo a couple years ago.

That's so sad. The office coffee here is awful. The cafeteria is OK in a pinch. I bring a large thermos from home.

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

I've just discovered other people have been a) drinking my coffee, and b) not cleaning the filter machine after using it. Which means a) I need to go roast some Ol' Brown Java ASA-frickin'-P, and b) run my filter machine for a few cycles with no grinds to sanitise it.

Other than this, I'm drinking a Brazilian-Java blend from Whittard's I was kindly given for Christmas.

Panama Boquete Volcancito Estate, roasted 36 hours ago to FC, drip, splash. Mild and smooth, a bit thin. Flavor, body and finish all improve as the cup cools. In fact, it's better cold. Weird!

Nicaraguan Antigua - very good coffee. Got it at local Sam's; I guess they are closing it out. Whole beans 2.5 pounds for $4.88! I bought four bags of it, so I'm in beans for a while now. I love to find a bargain now and then. You might want to check your local one.

BSB 01-10-2011 02:40 PM

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

Fresh roasted is the KEY, more than a week old or 2 at the most, you might as well throw it away. That close out stuff you bought was probably roasted a year ago or longer :O
'Course, depends on how you are making your coffee, too. How fresh the roast is, might not make any difference, if you are using crapy methods or equipment.

Did you know coffee is the most complex food on the planet? Well it is, over 800 flavors indentified in coffee, only like 180 or so in wine for comparison.
Coffee is a magical food, you really ought to take it more seriously :2 :D
