AJ has got the hot hand these days. SC CC, MOW, MOWR, Diesel, LHC OF, and 5 Vegas AAA are all great smokes. By the time AJ is DPG's age he will be making cigars so good that they sweep you away to a fantasy land, and for much less money.

We all hope you are right. But, another scenario is that, as his reputation grows, so will his prices. :(

I just keep smoking AJF stuff cuz its always good and the price is unbeleivable. My last 5 boxes were AJ's. Damn near impossible to beat. The Reposado habano is no exception.

To piggy back on this, I absolutely LOVED the Achilles. I have only had one in my cigar smoking life, so I can't attest to the consistency of it but all I remember about it is that it was one of (and probably still is) my favorite sticks. The only notes I made on the back of the band was "medium body, smooth and light spice" but to this day I remember how good that smoke was.

Picked up ANOTHER 5 pack of the Reposado Habanos for 11 bucks. :). I hope they are as good as the one I reviewed.

I just purchased a box of 25 SC CC No. 1s for 40.50 on CI's make an offer site. Good deal? If any one else wants them, make your offer a little lower and see what happens.

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

CI has the Padilla Habanos Toro listed at $164.00 a box , as I checked this the other day I panicked and thought I better check C-Bid . Won a fiver and 2 full boxes(55 cigars) for abut $120.00 total . I've been hitting alot of these lately so I thought I should stock up . The price on these has risen sharply since I first tried them last year . Hopefully CI's listed price is an error but I really don't think so . :tu

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

CI usually lists prices on the high side. On a separate note I just picked up a box (40 ct) of Reposados for $53. Can't beat that about 1.30 a stick! Usually $99 and a bargain for that price too. These will be going up in price I guarentee it.

You lucky, lucky man! I got a box a couple weeks ago for $64, which is still a great deal, but you stole those bastards! :banger

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

So far, on the 12 Angry Men sampler, I've had:

Padilla Achilles: Awesome. Not intense, but really good flavor, draw and burn.

Man Of War: Seems like it could have used more humi time, but really good. Really intense flavor, decent burn, good to tight draw.

Sol Cubano CC : Very good flavor, that is unlike most cigars I've had. Excellent burn and draw. I bought a box. I really like these.

Nica Libre: Taste was decent, but could have been better. Burn was off and there was some tunneling. Draw was too loose. Not a bad smoke, but I don't think I need to invest in a box or anything.

Gave away my diesel to a friend, but he said it was great. I'll probably try to get a box or more of these somehow next month.

So far, I've been really impressed with the sampler.

You shuld try the Diesel unholy there gggggrreat! The Nica's some are better than others. The PC's were good that I had but the other sizes were inconsistant. JMTCW of course.

I'm glad you like the site, but would like to know what you find to be incomplete. I'm always looking for ways to improve the thing. Also, if anyone has something to add or correct on The Cigar Blender Database, please feel free to contact me through the site and suggest any changes. Thanks

Also, I just posted an article about AJ. I recently visited his factory and was blown away by the quality of his new cigars.

Some people need to work on their math skills. These new blends look good but not for $10/stick.

I agree. I saw a new MOW blend also, the Armada. It was 500 bones for 32!!!

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

All the new Fernandez blends are terrific... especially the San Lotano Habano. It's a very strong cigar right from the jump, but has a complex smoothness that remains throughout the length of the stick. It a cigar that gets your attention with the first puff. It's only available through local B&Ms but I think it will eventually be sold at cigarsinternational.com. but that's just conjecture on my part. I don't have any official information about that.

Just got an email from cigar.com and saw the Ave Maria cigar. I've got to say, as far as cigar bands go, this is probably the most kick-ass cigar band I've seen. Unfortunately that said to me "watch out, it probably sucks." But reading that it's from AJ Fernandez, it kept my hopes from dying completely. I mean seriously though, look at how beautiful this is:

http://img.cigarsinternational.com/p...s/a/cs-ave.jpg

The Holy Grail...what a monster of a cigar. 7.1x58?! (that's not the one pictured) Jeez. But yeah, I'd love to see a review on this line before I pick some up. Cigar.com has a sampler of each size for $49.95, but it's back ordered at the moment :(

I picked up a ten pack of the Ave Maria Charlemagnes and they are outstanding. I've smoked one a day for the last five days and have just ordered a box. Great balance with big flavor without the overpowering nicotine hit. And yes, the bands are a trip! I've scanned one and put it in my Cigar Band Art Gallery: http://robustojoe.com/cigar-art-gallery/

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

I am not the norm when it comes to AJ's cigars. I have not smoked any of the newer stuff coming out, but out of 11 different blends of his I have liked 2 of them. The rest just didn't do it for me. And the worse of the bunch being the MoW. I have tried it many times because everybody talks great about it, everyone I have tried has been unsmokable either because of taste or construction.

bigheadmark 02-28-2011 12:54 PM

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

tx tuff, did you make certain that they were properly humidified? I know that I have gotten cigars in the mail that were EXTREMELY" wet...i take mail order cigars and place them in the humi for several weeks @ 60% humidity...if they are extremely wet, then I dry box them.

neoflex 02-28-2011 12:58 PM

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

Not sure if it's on the list or not but he is also blending the San Lotano. Keep in mind this brand is a little backwards as the Connecticut is the fullest as it is a spice bomb with an Ecuadorian Connie wrapper, the Habano is middle of the road which is not too unusual but the Maduro is the Mildest cigar of the bunch and is on the upper end of Mild at best. I was never a huge fan of the Connecticut shade wrapper unless I am looking for something to smoke in the early morning hours but the San Lotano Connecticut is a fantastic smoke and I would highly recommend it just NOT for your first smoke of the day unless you like to start the day with a lot of pepper. The first few samplings of this stick have been very spicy with spice right out of the gate and than mellowing a bit about midway and than the spice kicks back in for the final 1/3. Trying to avoid buying a box of these as I am honestly trying to cut back. The Maduro just did nothing for me and the Habano is just a touch above average.

I don't smoke anything right off the truck. I keep my cabinet at 65% and don't have any problems with my other sticks. In fact I love Nicaraguan cigars and thats pretty much all I smoke. I'm not dogging AJ, hell he is doing something right, look at all the people here that love the cigars. They just don't do it for me.

The only ones I have had with a construction problem have been the MoW. All the others smoked good (although some to lose) I just didn't care for the taste.

I haven't tried all of them on that list but of the 5-6 I have tried I am not a fan.

In my opinion I feel AJ confuses power with flavor.

At least with this list I know which new blends to avoid.;s

Wow...interesting this thread was bumped today. I had a La Cuna Bin No 85 while fishing this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. I picked up a gaggle of AJ's stuff a while ago, and at the time thought most was okay, but nothing special. It's been a while since had one of his sticks, and as I said, today's La Cuna was quite good. Maybe the rest did it some good?:sh

I was at one of our local B&M' the other day, The Smoke Zone, and was told that of AJ' new San Lotano line, the popular wrappers in order are:

San Lotano Maduro
San Lotano Habano
San Lotano Connecticut

Have you tried Morro Castle? Sumatra wrapper, not "in your face" strength, and way more interesting than most others, IMO.

+1....except more like 14 or 15 of them. Few were awful. Fewer were great. Just not in my wheelhouse, I guess.
I will say that I received a RP Fusion (or 'Double'?) Maduro lancero (green band) in a sampler one time that was tremendous. Wouldn't mind revisiting that one. Any of the others are just OK .....at cigarbid prices.

Just tried a San Lotano Habano I received from the Lottery -- it was a very nice smoke. I was impressed! Nice flavors -- pepper, spice, lots of smoke, and it burned well. I will have to get some more of these :)
