I finally got my Green 999 spigot. I've been wanting one ever since I seriously started piping last year, and have been on the lookout for one for the last 5 or 6 months. She's almost to pretty to smoke...almost. I also picked up 8oz. of Exhausted Rooster, 2oz. of Mississippi Mud, and 4oz. of SG Chocolate Flake.

Nice score. Love that shape 999 from Peterson. Been eyeballing a few styles myself. Baccy looks good too. Been looking at my tin of Exhausted Rooster in my cellar to try.

I stopped by Holt's on the way home from work today. They are very knowledgeable about pipes and pipe tobacco there. I told the clerk that I like a full body pipe tobacco, nothing to fruity so he recommended a couple English blends for me. I wanted to try something from Ashton, the other is a Holt's house blend.

Some more ebay buys.
4 Yello Bole-Three are new never smoked, the bamboo shank one has been smoked some. The finish on 3 of them is bad, looks like age or sun damage. I'm going to buff off the old finish, and then buff on a new carnuba wax finish.

Make sure you post pictures after you get them all dolled up.

I just won an auction on a yello-bole myself. Pictures will follow but I'm excited. I just know I won't be allowed to smoke in public when I'm with the finacee. :r

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread

I stopped by Holts again today. The same guy that helped me out on Saturday was there again, very knowledgeable guy. I said I was looking for something a little more flavorful but non-aromatic so he recommened the GL Pease Union Sqaure.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...9/IMAG0104.jpg

I smoked a bowl of it tonight, pretty good.

I also rolled the dice on an "ebay" pipe (around $8 shipped). It came today and looked even better in person. I spent some time tonight cleaning it up, salt + vodka treatment in the bowl, and used a stem cleaner and briar polish that the guy at Holt's suggested. I think it looks pretty good. It's extremely light, hopefully tomorrow I'll get to see how it smokes.

This will be my first Yello-Bole, so I'm hoping that they smoke good.

Have a great night.

The Chesterfield's were pretty much copies of Peterson System pipes, that one looks like it has a copy of the P-lip stem too.

I've been looking at the Peterson System pipes and have wanted to try one. Hopefully this Yello-Bole smokes like the Peterson so I will get an idea of what they are like.

I just got in the mail this vintage Wally Frank. Now this is what I call A Man's Pipe. The pot shaped bowl on this thing is huge. I can fit my gorilla thumb down inside the bowl, just past the knuckle, and there is even room to wiggle it around in there. For having a rounded bottom this thing sits like a champ, you can even set it down at a 45* angle and it still uprights it's self.

That's a big honking pot pipe you have there CQ. Appears to be your "all-day" pipe. The Peterson Silver Spigot is a nice looker Grant.

I just won the following on *Bay this afternoon. I'll post some real photo's of it upon arrival:
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...eKaywoodie.jpg

Its a vintage Kaywoodie Oversize from the 40's - 50's. Measures approximately 6.125"L x 2.25"H with a 7/8" bore. The rim measures 1 5/8” across and 1 7/8’ front to back. Looking forward to its arrival now:D

It was on sale. :o I thought I could use some "knocking around" tobacco and the reviews were pretty decent.

The pipe is Whitehall Thermofilter.

I saw some of that tobacco at a B&M the other day. Never heard of it (which doesn't mean anything), it was just the first time ever noticing this brand...

The Sutliff blends is actually blended by Altidas, which would normally make me turn and run, but they are supposed to be matches of classic blends from House of Windsor. I have a tin of Maple Street that I picked up at my local B&M, I don't know how it compares to Mapleton, but it is a good smoke in it's own right.

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread

I have one of the big "blend No. 5". Its a simple straight forward English Oriental that isn't bad at all. I had a pouch of "Great Outdoors" that I smoked a bowl from before gifting it away. All I can remember about that blend was it smelled like Root Beer.

I did read that, the Great Outdoors is a copy of "Field and Stream". I am in no position to confirm or dis-confirm that though.

Picked up a few tins. Orlik Golden Sliced x2 and Balkan Sasieni x2. Since the budget has been rough I also added 3 bulk blends to give a shot. Bayou Morning, Star of the East, and Epiphany. All 3 from C&D Hoping they are good and I can pick up some bulk tobacco. At ~26 a pound I need to venture onto this route. Been smoking mucho tins!

I've been good for the past 4 months or so with not buying anything pipe related (I have plenty), but that just ended today. I picked up a Claudio Cavicchi from SP. Always wanted one, and today seemed like a good day to grab one.

Picked up at a yard sale Saturday, .75 cents..:D
As found: A Mastercraft- Standard- Made in England
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/DSCN0350.jpg

After a little clean up and a coat of carnauba wax.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/DSCN0355.jpg
The draw on it is a little restrictive, and stinger won't come out, so I'm thinking of cutting it off and then drilling it out of the stem...?

Nice looking pipe Jeff and a great find too. The bowl looks like it can hold a load of your favorite tobaccy. Don't know much about your remodel question as you may want to post that in the "Ask an old fart a question" thread:D

Commander Quan 07-21-2010 08:50 AM

Re: Latest Pipe-Related Purchase Thread

Mastercraft was the company that at one time owned Dr. Grabow. If that pipe is like the other Grabows the stinger should just pull out, but sometimes those old pipes get very stiff after all the years. If you don't care about the stinger grab it with a pair of pliers and twist while pulling out. If you think you may want to save it wrap it with a old towel or rag before using the pliers.

Thanks I've been traveling a lot more on recently, and I never want to take 2 or 3 pipes with me so being able to smoke multiple bowls and blends out of one pipe was a major advantage. I'm going to Punta Cana for a week in September, and this will be the one pipe I take along with my 10-15 cigars. :D
