More cash for clunkers , Billy Wagner to the Sox.
Just what we need, a broken down circus dog that chokes in big games. :td

He'll pitch an inning at most on Pap's off days. It's not like we're talking about a starter here. And we got him for basically nothing. I think it could either be a really good pickup for us or Eric Gagne 2.0...

I think it will be another failed attempt to get a broken down once former star who Theo thinks can bring back their glory old self one more time in a Boston uniform. :td

Theo is in love with these reclaimation projects for pitchers, I just don't get it. You would think that after his experiences with Gange, Smoltz, Penny et al he would have wised up by now.

Realllllllly good to see Ortiz start to swing the bat. Offense is starting to turn it up, hopefully pitching mans up as well.

Sox pitch a bad Penny, he was released today.
Hold on to your hats boys and girls, it's time to make the playoff push :banger

The experiment with the sushi boy was a total disaster last night. On a positive note, Paps seems to be more focused and throwing better the past couple of times out. Maybe he has been pitching with an injury since June? Still, he is 30 of 33 which is Hall of Fame reliability even with the heart attacks. Have faith, this team is turning the corner. P:tu

Re: Red Sox Nation -Check In

Apparently, we can also put Nick Green in if we need someone in a pinch...

Don't write off Tazawa yet. He's going to be on the roster a few more weeks until Matsuzaka gets back.

Great to see Wake back in it and pitching 7 solid innings.

VTDragon 08-28-2009 11:52 AM

Re: Red Sox Nation -Check In

How can Nick Green pitch two scoreless innings but not be able to throw consistently from short to first? Ahh well, the mysteries of baseball.

I've got tickets to Saturday's game vs, the Blue Jays, hope the weather gurus are wrong about the impact of trop storm Danny and we don't get rained out.

Nice weekend with a sweep of the Jays.
Paul Byrd comes out of retirement to pitch six innings of shutout ball, Billy Wagner in his first appearance in Boston strikes out the side, to help secure the shutout :D
Sox have a chance to put a dent in the Rays wild card chances starting tomorrow :D

The trop has been really tough for us this year. Hope Beckett can get off his ass and start pitching again...

Re: Red Sox Nation -Check In

Lester came through in game one vs the Rays, but once again Okajima almost blew it. I don't know what's wrong with him lately, (he did the same thing vs Toronto Saturday night), but I sure hope he gets back to where he was earlier in the season.

On a positive note, a good showing by Billy Wagner. Nice to see one of Theo's reclaimation projects actually working out.

Isn't Jacoby Ellsbury fun to watch ... how come he doesn't have a good nickname?

Keep the faith, he'll be OK. All pitchers have rocky periods, we just have to hope he is over his for the year.

Re: Red Sox Nation -Check In

Hey, at least Wagner seems to be working out in more ways than one. He's been very good in the innings he's pitched, and Papelbon seems to be stepping up his game, given the new competition.

And both Penny and Smoltz pitched great games their last time out too.

Oh, wait a second - that wasn't for the Sox, was it? :r

Tough series in Chicago. It will be good to get back to friendly Fenway.

Back in Fenway, we score 10 runs and Bucholtz is lights out. Why can't we play all our games here?

Nice to see the bats come alive last night, and Clay pitched a great game.
I like our chances if get into the playoffs, this team will be very tough to beat. :D

As nice as last night's blowout was to see, it was against the Orioles, in September. Not really anything to write home about. Byrd going tonight - hope he doesn't f*&k this one up.

Bring them all on, who is going to stop the Sox pitching? Beckett Buck, and Lester, Dice is back tomorrow.
A shut down bullpen with Pap, Wagner and crew.
this team is built for playoff ball and won't need more then three runs to win any game?

VTDragon 09-16-2009 07:18 AM

Re: Red Sox Nation -Check In

Dice-K pitched better than ever in last nights win. The Sox will be looking real good for the post season if he can continue to pitch like that.

If Theo wasn't playing cash for clunkers with Smolts and Penny, and Dice showed up in shape and ready to play, we would have locked up the division?

I don't begrudge Theo trying them out, I just think he stuck too long with both of them. By the way, the only thing good about game one vs KC was that the Yankees lost too.

You guys need to sweep my Yanks this weekend - either that, or play it smart, settle for the wildcard, and rest your vets and set up your pitchers for the playoffs.

Looks like Tito and Theo read your post, that's exactly what they're doing.

Now the worries are about the suddenly fragile pitching staff. Lester's knee, Wake's back and Becketts back. Who would have thunk that Bucholtz and Dice-K would be our most valuable pitchers at this point?

Yeah, crappy way to clinch, but better than missing the playoffs entirely.

When all is said and done, we're inthe postseason. Now let's have a little rest, get healthy and bring on the Angels.

I'm glad my Jays didn't have to deal with an on the field celebration. For the record, I will be cheering for the Red Sox in the post season. I just don't think they have the team this year to win it all.
