I'm late to this party aren't I. Hopped on the bourbon bus last fall. I think I have 13 different bottles on my cabinet right now and have polished off 5 or so. I may have a problem

Picked up Woodford Reserve Double Oaked on a friend's recommendation last weekend, looks like it's a fairly popular one around here too. Very nice blend, lots of flavours that are parallel to the rums I enjoy

I just finished reading all 83 pages of this thread. seems to have tapered off. maybe we can get it kickstarted again.

Whats everyone liking these days?
When does the pappy collection & the BTAC get released this year? I would really like to try some of the options if I can get my hands on some.

Many of these bottles were recent gifts.
My favorites are Bulliet, Angels Envy, Four Roses Small batch.
I also really like the Bowman Brothers.

If you like Bowman Brothers then look for John T Bowman. Same distiller but a few bucks more. Much smoother.

To add a little to this. If you like the four roses small batch then you must try the single barrel by the same name.

Yes, I am liking the Old weller Antique. I also picked up a bottle of Weller Special Reserve. It is good but I would rather have had another OWA 107

I saw some Knob Creek single barrel store picks and that will be the next pickup.

My wife and I were in the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience this past Friday doing the Speakeasy Tour. It was a fun tasting and I picked up a couple of souvenirs:

The Elijah Craig is the smoothest "high octane" whisky I've ever had.

Found a bottle of Russell's Reserve that someone gift me last year. Cracked it open tonight. Know nothing about it, but it has a nicely sweet vanilla undercurrent to it. I really should keep better track of where these gifts come from so I can thank people appropriately ...

Hotel Tango Single Barrel Bravo Bourbon
Bumbu original rum
and a cognac I cant quite remember what kind though.

I think my liquor store has painted a target on me! Every Sunday I get an email titled "Sunday Funday 20% off" and it has some libation that I just cannot do without.

Sampled Pappy 23 Year for the first time at a dinner last night. Good, but with my palette, I don’t think I could ever justify the price point. At least I can say I’ve tried it. :)

Glad to see some action here again. Me and a couple guys at work have been drinking Rabbit Hole. It runs around $50 a bottle here, but we all have enjoyed it.

Scored a bottle of Red and Green Weller that i am waiting to try. I got tired of searching up here so don't often find them. Anything out of buffalo trace seems to fly off the shelves. Eagle rare is about the best I have scored.

As an ex-Chicago resident I miss Binny's in my life!

For this thread, I've always been a fan of the New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon, and as a Rye fan I got excited about the Rye variety. Sadly, not on the same level. It has a level of sweetened that almost seems fake, and some off flavors, like someone mixed a touch of beer into the bourbon.

The Elijah Craig Small Batch bought apparently has that distinction too, I didn't realize that was a thing. :)

That's a shame. Is the bourbon made by New Holland, or just using New Holland beer in it? I'll have to see if they distribute the original version in Chicago and give it a try.

Yes sir! They are usually called “store picks”. Larger liquor stores will hand pick single barrel selections of an already existing product, for example Weller Antique 107, Knob Creek, Eagle Rare, blantons, Russels, 4Rs, ect. Store picks are almost always a step up in my opinion.

We've got a place down here, Maisano's, that does this. Every one of their's that I've had has been great.

They for sure have the "Beer Barrel Bourbon" in Chicago, it's different due to the aging, but it's something I like to keep around. As far as I can tell they make their own, unless they are really great at hiding that fact. The barrels are first used for bourbon, then one of their stouts, and then back to bourbon (although I guess that technically makes it not a true bourbon).

Being that it’s Super Bowl Sunday I got a little head start today. :)

Old Forester 1920, a very smooth high proof bourbon and so far, my favorite from OF’s Whiskey Row series.
Quickly becoming one of my preferred sipping whiskeys.
