Those look like magic. I've never seen that before. :tu

Tonight at my house was delivery from my fave Brooklyn BBQ joint, Mable's. Shared the DeLuxe Platter with the missus: hot link, brisket, ribs, black eyed peas, collards, potato salad, slaw, fixins, couple o' cold ones. Perfect.

Jamaican Jerk chicken drumsticks. They hit the marinade about 2 hours ago. Trying a new Method this time. I normally do boneless skinless chicken breasts with this recipe. This time, because of the drumsticks, I peeled the skin back before tossing into the marinade. My guess is they are going to be awesome. Especially with the corn (contemplating blistered corn) and zatarain' s black beans and rice.

They had blue marlin on sale at my local grocery, never had it before. On the fish guy's recommendation, I made it Carribean Jerk style.

Texture much like a swordfish steak, but a bit more "gamey". Doubt I'll make it again...unless it's on sale again. ;)

Making some of my steak chili. Sirloin was 6.59 a point and prime rib was 7 a pound so I got 1 1/2 pounds of the rib, had them trim it up and substituted it for the sirloin, then got some ribeye (for the flavor) to add to it, very tasty batch!

Went to our small town festival and I had a fried walleye sandwich. The wife got a hand pounded pork loin sandwich. We shared some deep fried pickles also. Don't tell my doctor!

Reverse-seared steak on the Big Green Egg, corn on the cob, and cherry tomatoes. Surly Todd the Axeman IPA on the side. I only ate half the steak; I'll have the rest tomorrow.

Portuguese style lamb shanks, with mashed cauliflower. Recipe from my friends cookbook, Buck, Buck, Moose. (Alas no venison his year). The sauce alone is worth the price of the book.

Marie Callender Chicken Pot Pie and a split of Chablis Priemere Cru. Not normally a white wine drinker, but this half-bottle has been in my fridge too long, and I choose to kill it.

Harvested a bunch of basil from my garden. So I decided to make a Margherita pizza. Trying to cut back on white flour so I made the dough with half white and half wheat.

Re: What did you have for dinner 2nite???

Friends turned us on to a cookbook from The Elote Cafe in Sedona, AZ. They describe the place as Mexican-inspired rather than purely Mexican, but whatever it is, the food they've made from its cookbook has been right in my gastronomic wheelhouse. I thought I'd give it a try and start out with a simple chorizo and rice dish.

Took a couple pounds of ground pork, mixed in the various spices which included three different types of chiles as well as a spiced rub mix the chef at The Elote refers to as "the cure". Let the mixture sit for 48 hours to give the flavors a chance to meld then browned it up.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7824/...1c37c69255.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7854/...42c3911d9d.jpg

The rice is a combination of lightly fried long-grain rice with corn, diced tomatoes and onions.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7852/...73dea42d37.jpg

Add a puree of chicken stock, more chile spices, actual chipotle & garlic.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7923/...b0060c425e.jpg

Bake for a half hour to let the rice absorb the liquid

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7835/...c4fc5c4bfb.jpg

Mix the chorizo in and serve

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7805/...34393e68b0.jpg

My verdict: super flavorful, but on the high end of the heat index for me (and I like spicy food). Grace liked the flavor, but not the heat. May try it again down the road, and cut the spices in half. Looking forward to cooking my way through this book.

Gonna make some "chile colorado" with half venison and half wild pig from my father in law's ranch. Basically red chile with the meat cubed and simmered for a couple hours. It's a great thing for those tough front quarters on the deer. mmmmmm....mmmmm

Pork chops, sweet potatoes and asparagus cooked by my "second mom". The sweet potatoes were a big treat as I am just adding back some carbs in my diet, and I forgot how good they were.
