I agree. I was at a game last year where we were up by 3 or 4 and came within a spectacular HR robbing catch by Bruce to save the game for CoCo

Luckily the Reds benefited from the easiest schedule in baseball last season. Good news for them is the division still looks weak, as long as they beat everyone else but the Cardinals all year, and the Cardinals lose to all the bad teams again, they could win the division. :tu ;) :np :tpd: :chr

It still looks weak, but some of those teams have made improvements over last year. The Brew Crew and the Asstros look like they could do some damage this year if they play it right.

Re: Red's Fans Check in

Good news for the Reds today, if Wainright is out for the season that automatically gives the Reds a 5+ game lead over the Cards to start the season. They certainly can't beat them, but if they lose a 20 game starter and a Cy Young runner-up it makes them much weaker.

Nope. Ever since he got cut by Clear Channel, I haven't heard a peep from him. I used to enjoy listening to him in the mornings on the ride into work.

Looks like some out of context stuff. If I were a hitter in that division I would be celebrating, albeit not publicly. Stubbs is probably elated. The Reds are probably the clear favorite now. Assuming the MLB is like the NFL, the Reds will be playing a tougher schedule, but will still benefit from the weakest division in baseball. :tu

It's gonna be a good year. Our Triple A team is stacked this year and could probably compete with major league teams. If our triple A team looks this good, just think what we're gonna do this year.:tu

Flash:

Edinson Volquez can’t pitch in tomorrow’s spring opener because of visa issues. In short, he’s not allowed to play in front of paying fans without a work visa.

Are you sure you meant to say Bengals?:)

Pittsburgh, KC, Seattle, and Baltimore could be easily beaten by our Triple A team right now. I didn't say competitive with all teams. Of course they're gonna get beat by NY, Boston, and Phillie.

No. There is a reason that the players are in Triple-A. Across the board, there isn't a chance that a lower level team could beat the next step up. Its like saying the CFL AllStar team could beat the Browns. :2

There is a reason that they are in Triple A. Because there are better players in our organization to make the major league team. We don't trade all of our prospects just b/c all of them are good enough to play in the majors. If we did that, we would have no farm system. Remember, we only have a 40 man roster. It's always a good idea to have the rest MLB ready. We have a great farm system right now and I'm happy that we have plenty of back up in case some of our regulars are injury plagued this year. Look at Pittsburgh. They have no money, no major league team, and no minor league prospects that are worth a crap. They are there just to sell a few tickets and make money through revenue sharing. Our organization is finally coming to the realization that winning makes money, so we have signed some excellent talent over the last few years and have drafted decent. Our triple a team could beat the Pirates any day of the week.

I miss Riverfront. In one of the aerial pics, you can still see the mound and the foul lines on the field.

Amen. The new field is nice but all we have from Riverfront (never did call it Cinergy, that was lame too) is memories now.

I have a ton a great memories from the old place.

Yes, GABP is a better ball park (the view, atmosphere, you can actually see the river, etc...), but Riverfront was a place where history was made and was home to the Big Red Machine. I'm sure those who remember Crosley Field felt the same way when they tore it down as I do about Riverfront.

Pitching looks rough to start the year. Cueto out, Bailey on the 15 day DL, and Arroyo has mono. Volquez looks horrible during Spring Training. It could be a rough start for the year.

Oh yeah, I am sure it was sad to see it torn down. I remember different memories b/c I wasn't around for the Big Red Machine. I remember a drunk guy running onto the field during a huge storm and security obliterating the guy :r

I was also there when Barry Larkin joined the 40/40 club. I was there for the last game at Riverfront as well. I also remember feeling like I was going to fall out of the stands climbing the red seats at the top..

I'll bet you a fiver they don't win the World Series. With as weak as this division is (again), they definitely could win it. ;)

I'll bet you Stubbs bats under .310 this year. You want the over?

I'll bet you Jay Bruce hits less than 50 homeruns this year. You want the over? ;)

I'll bet you Homer Bailey wins less than 15 games this year. You want the over?

Why not bet the playoffs? You just told Aaron that you need to have a lot of hope for them to have a good year again. They made it to the playoffs last year...

I am not just saying it, its true. When you win the division with a record not even good enough to win the Wild Card, and the division contains the worst team in baseball, and the division has a stellar .472 winning percentage, I would say thats a pretty weak division. Lest you forget the Reds second half schedule was the easiest in baseball and had 8 games against winning teams of their last 45. The Reds won it last year and got swept convincingly in the playoffs, yet you proclaim them to be this years World Series Champs! I am sorry I am a little more of a sports fan and a realist than a homer. :tu

More importantly, how long until the Reds miss use him and he needs Tommy John? I think he is going to be best suited as a set up man. In the long run, throwing 102 is going to shorten his career severely if he is throwing 85+ pitches every 5 days. His control is lacking and you can only throw it past people so many times before they figure you out. The Reds bullpen has been weak and he will be better suited there :2
