I noticed the same with this flake. I may have to revisit again myself. More G&H dark Bird's Eye. Not a bad tobacco, the price is a bit. A straight forward medium to strong tobacco taste. Some small almost non-noticeable hints of the notorious " Lakeland " flavors come through.

Ah yes, those Lakelands. Not sure if it's that noticeable in 1792 because its masked by the tonquin, or if its even there at all. Either way, its always a flavor that I have to be in the right mood for.

This isn't to bad. You really have to look for it. It pops in very faintly every once in a while. I don't mind it when it's like that. The Lakeland flavors I dont care for all in my grill.

Some tambolaka in my cob. Not sure how I feel about this one. It seems a bit on the dry side from a poorly sealing pouch. I've moved it into a mason jar.

Couple of bowl of G&H Dark Bird's Eye this weekend. Still on the fence with this blend. A lot of straight forward tobacco taste. It tends to burn a little hot.

Laurel Flake.

Some 5 years ago Knox Cigar (out-of-business) brought in SG to make about 4 or 5 blends for them, one of which was Laurel Flake. A VA/Perique, it was described to me by a mgt. employee as a very mellow blend.

But after 2 years, opening the jar and finding it bitey, and then sealing it for another 2 years, it is quite robust, full-bodied but with negligible. Very, very tasty-and I still have 12 ozs!

Laurel Flake, a VA/Perique.

Some ~6 years ago, Knox Cigar partnered with SG to make some blends for them. I opened a sealed jar yesterday and found it full-bodied, medium strength, and very, very tasty!

Butera King Fisher '07 tastes tasty reminds me of a cigar I smoked recently but in pipe baccy form and taste, First bowl halfway through had a bite to it and a sizzle. Curious to how the other bowls smoke.I ran out of pipe cleaners 2 bowls ago so could me my pipe. I need to get some alcohol and clean out my new used pipes so I can see how this and the other baccy I received smoked in them.

Sounds like an interesting smoke John, especially with the Basma grade leaf from Greece blended into this mix...

jkstewart1 05-02-2011 08:31 AM

Re: Whats in your bowl?

Trying to work on/learn about matching my pipes to the tobacco I'm smoking. My bjarne is relatively short in length with a somewhat wide bowl. Does very well with the englishes. Smoking Commonwealth in it was eye-opening. It went from "this is okay" to "where has this been all my life"!
