Re: Photography Thread
I meant the video on the T3i, I believe all that is the same as on the T2i, it's uh-mazing. I filmed a Korean Tae Kwon Do team, and slowing it down to 15fps made for some awesome footage.

Re: Photography Thread
Hey Adam,
Do yourself a favor. Buy these two items. It will help greatly. The first for the camera and the second will help out with your photography in general especially when using the manual modes. It's a very interesting read. http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Lantern-.../dp/1600596983 http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-...8027433&sr=1-1 |
Re: Photography Thread
I got the 'Dummies' book for my T2i, life saver. Teaches the camera functions and what they mean. Also teaches the basics, in a general overview sense.

Re: Photography Thread
Hey Justin, do they make the Magic Lantern firmware for Nikon? I've been using that in my Canon and I love it, so much more functionality.

Re: Photography Thread
I'll have to check and see if the ML guide is the same as the firmware. There is SO much to read, I haven't had a chance to read that. I thought about taking some lessons locally, but time is an issue, especially working nights. I need to become independently wealthy....lol.

I need to go through and empty all my SD cards. Going one a 9 day trip to New England so I need all the space I can get.

Re: Photography Thread
Happy shooting, should be some nice scenery. Can't wait to see what you bring back.

If you haven't already got one, check rentglass dotcom. They are actually locally here, but they ship everywhere, have the best deal on insurance and are some really nice people. |

I have a 55-200mm so i'm thinking of renting something on the wider side maybe. maybe a 10.5mm fisheye for building shots when we go to Philly, Boston and NYC? :sh |

When looking at the on-line rental stores, if you get insurance, check their policies if something happens to the lens. Rentglass had the cheapest rental rates and I believe you're only responsible for $30, no matter what happens to the lens. None of them cover water damage, they call it negligence. A lot of the insurance policies require you to pay 10-20% of the repairs/replacement. |
Re: Photography Thread
the widest they have in stock thats a non fisheye is a 12-24mm. I'm going to see if i can borrow my FILs nikon 18-35. like this

I've missed this thread since the beginning of the month I guess. Thanks for the compliment! The subject is in fact my Dad. And I keep that random shot around because I do feel I captures his character as you say. That was the very first shot taken with my Nikon 105VR Micro, I literally pulled it out of the box, snapped the lens on my (I think D200 at the time) camera, and just pointed and shot. My Dad was probably amused because I was like a kid having my own private X-mas. |

Re: Photography Thread
I like the softened version of the wife pic. With the focus on her and surrounding soft like that, it draws your eyes to her face, which I'm assuming was the intent. :tu

Thanks Jeff. What about this one? I combined the effects?

Not a fan of the lomo. As is, the focal softened looks too fake (blur above her head where the eye expects it to be sharp + same blur applied across the entire photo), But it would totally be my vote IF you graduated strength of the blur (left and right edges being VERY blurry, lightening up till you get to the subject) ... |

Re: Photography Thread
Here's what I whipped up whilst playing with it. I played with motion blur and gaussian blur, along with a black and white version.
http://i.imgur.com/6zdvRl.jpg motion blur, color http://i.imgur.com/y4K1Dl.jpg motion blur, black and white http://i.imgur.com/gstk2l.jpg gaussian blur, color (heavier blur than yours... a lighter blur like yours will look much more realistic, a heavier blur like this can be riskier, but gain a little more pop). given the two side by side, I would probably pick the lighter blur. http://i.imgur.com/7WF6Dl.jpg gaussian blur, black and white (heavier blur than yours... a lighter blur like yours will look much more realistic, a heavier blur like this can be riskier, but gain a little more pop). given the two side by side, I would probably pick the lighter blur. |
