Do I have to clean and add more oil to a brand new AR?

Clean and get the excess oil off, only thing that needs a bit of oil after cleaning is the bolt carrier and a bit down the barrel, I keep my AR fairly dry, especially when shooting practice ammo. real dirty and will foul the bolt, with a lot of oil makes it that much stickier for the burnt carbon and what not.

Stopped by Gander Mt this evening. Loads of .223 in stock. Sky high prices. Best was $.55/rnd.

I hear ya Mike. Granted this was all Federal stuff. But the 420rnd can for $250? Or the 312rnd green tip can for $170 (on sale no less). Ok, you get a can for storage, but those are cheap.

Wally World had 20 rnd boxes in stock, but $13/ea. Hopefully places will start having a glut of stuff and having decent sales.

Talk to me about the 6.8spc, I have 3 stripped lowers coming and want to build a 6.6,a 24" rifle and the third maybe save it for when I'm bored.

Mike, why not try 300blk? All you need is a different barrel. Everything else is the same between 5.56 and 300blk

Thanks for all the ammo sites. Ended up ordering the 500 rds x2 and splitting it with a buddy. Still the cheapest right now, with their 5% off for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal.

Only downside to .22lr conversion is right now 22 ammo is damn hard to find.

Gary you could always buy some Tula/wolf/brown bear ammo. Steel cased and dirty. But cheap.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day...

Okay here's the deal with that title above. Recently acquired a low mles used Smith and Wesson M&P full size pistol in .40 caliber. Didn't realize til afterwards that magazines for those and the full size 9mm version are hard as heck to find.

So yesterday I made my first visit to a Rural King store. Knew they carried ammo and sometimes guns, just thought it would be worth a look see. Darned if they didn't have a good supply of Pro Mag brand magazines for the M&P full sized guns. Knowing Pro mag's lousy rep I was hesitant to buy any but rolled the dice on one. Turned out the price was less than what the shelving tag said, so that was a plus. $16 and tax.

Anyhow my next stop after the store was the range. Darned if that Pro Mag doesn't work exactly as it's supposed to. It fit perfect yet dropped free when the release is pressed. It held the right number of rounds, fed them properly, etc. etc.

Given Pro Mag's track record I am very pleasantly surprised.

The Troy mags aren't too bad. Not as good as Pmags. Dsg might still have their window Pmags for $10 though, and their metal mags for $7.

Looking good Remo. I think I may want a smaller one like that. Mine is a two clip to belt. Not sure how the single clip would hold.
