Lidstrom announcing his retirement tomorrow :( will post link later. Not good for the Wings but Detroit was very lucky to have a HOFer and legend on our blue line for so many years

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
Lidstrom was one of the best ever. First ballot HOFer for sure.
Colin Fraser with the SCF opening goal! |

Here's the link. Losing Stuart and now Lidstrom on the blueline is going to be a killer. Going to need to at least get Suter and hopefully someone else. Still hoping for Parise too :)
Lidstrom to retire |

Wow...what an OT!!! I forgot to DVR, so just got the OT...but happy I did!

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
Kings keep the road unbeaten streak alive. Gonna be tough to beat the way Quick is playing.

Likewise, Christos. I think the Wings need Suter, Parise, and another top 4 D-man as well. This is truly the end of an era, but it doesn't have to be the end of the run for the Wings. They have a ton of cap room to get some fresh blood in here. In Holland we trust. |

Tim Thomas talking about sitting out 2012-2013 for "family reasons".
Maybe, or maybe he is just a head case. |
Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
The guy is a freakin head case, last season he stripped his mask and pads of any Bruins logos.
He was mad at the team because they tried to trade him two seasons ago,the only thing that kept him in town was the great hot streak that took the B's to the cup. What sux's is the team will take a 5 mil cap hit if he sits. He moved his home to Colorado in the middle of the season, who the heck would do that? Looks like he is trying to shoot his way out of town,it won't be hard to do looks like a done deal?:gary |
Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
New Jersey is in real trouble now having to go back to LA for two straight games down 2-0 in the series. The worst part is New Jersey has actually kept pace and played well in both games. It seems like they are playing not to lose instead of playing to win though and I think that has been a big difference so far.

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
Hell of a game tonight on both ends. LA will close in game 5

Its looking that way.
I am expecting hell to freeze very soon. |

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
Every game so far I have thought NJ was going to break out and take a lasting lead. For long stretches over each game they have dominated puck possession in the Kings zone, but they just can't get past Quick.
That OT in game one, I was sure NJ was going to win. I didn't get that exact same feeling in game two's OT, but I think LA is flirting with disaster in not being able to effectively clear the puck. If it wasn't for Quick, this series could be 2-1 NJ. I also thought game three was very close, maybe even tilting towards NJ again until that first goal. Even at 2-0 Kings there were times that NJ looked like they could be right back in it. Now I'm hoping that LA just crushes NJ early and often in game four, just get it over with, and let me get back to worrying about how my Pens are going to come back next year! As good as Quick has been, I am super impressed with Kopitar, or as I call him "Evgeni Kopitar" cause he reminds me so much of Geno. I think if LA closes it out tomorrow, the Conn Smythe belongs to Quick. But I would also love seeing Kopitar getting the nod. |
Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
Haven't watched much lately, but LA being up 3-0 as an 8 seed for the Cup...it proves that all you need is a chip and a chair. But 15-2 so far in the playoffs...WOW. Not something I'd even expect from a 1 seed in the Cup playoffs.
The local angle here is how it affects the prusuit the Wild are going to put on Parise. The sentiment here is that if he won the Cup, it would be much easier for him to "come home". If they get swept, how will that affect his decisions/thoughts? Will he think "we made it, but weren't close"? Or will it be "We should have won a couple of those games...if we got some breaks...we'll be right there next year, too"? He could also look at the young guns the Wild have coming in, and think that there is something special on the horizon here. |
Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
As far as Parise "coming home", I am guessing that after getting this close to the Cup, he will sign with a team that is an immediate contender, rather than future potential. I see him signing in Detroit or a similar situation, Mike. Be shocked if he signed with the Wild.
L.A. should have a nice view tonight. http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...tanley-cup.jpg |

I've heard that Detroit is planning on putting a heavy pursuit on both Suter and Parise, as well. I'd heard well before the end of the season that Parise and Suter were the main targets for the Wild this offseason. I believe that they'll be well enough below the cap to have the $ to throw at them. As for Det...I don't know. I've heard that Parise loves the NY/NJ area, so I don't really see him going anywhere but there or coming back here. But the only one who knows what's going through his head is him. His family still lives here (dad was a MN North Star, for those who didn't know that), and he's building a place here, too. Some people looked at that as a sign. I look at it like he wants an offseason home at "home". There has been minimal talk about the Cup Finals here, and when it's mentioned, mostly what's been talked about it Parise. Unfortunately, I don't get the channel that most of the games have been on. Would have liked to see a few of those games. Will be interesting to see if Quick is back to being the utter stone wall he's been for most of the playoffs. On another note, the wife and I talked about getting season tix for the Wild a couple days ago. If we don't go in on our own, we might split some that our friends have. :D |

Thefirstrow.eu
I think u should put a WWW. In front of those words up there and see what happens. Ahbroody is a fictional character who does not have any relation to any off shore site and does not condone violation of any regulations. As to Parise and suter as mentioned they are going to be sought after by many teams some with money some with a much more stable team on the verge. Why either would go to the D is beyond me. They are not one player away. If they get neither it will make Sharks fans smile and will mean the cap has done its job. I don't know if one will get there. I definitely don't see both. The last couple of years they have gone after free agents. The highly prized are not going there |

I'm pretty sure the Wings are completely devoid of all talent. I'm surprised they don't make them play across the river for the Spitfires. BTW, Wings have $26 million of cap space. RFAs: Quincy = $3.125 Mil, probably similar to re-sign Abdelkader = 787.5K, 1.2 to re-sign? Helm = 912.5K, 1.5 to re-sign? UFAs: Hudler = $2.875 Mil, may not re-sign. If so similar On O. they have: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Filppula, Cleary, Bert and some good young talent in in Nyquist and Emmerton On D. they have Kronwall, White, Ericsson, and youngins Brenden Smith and Jakub Kindl They also have two young talented netminders in Howard and MacDonald. The Wings need to add two D-men, replace/resign Hudler, and get a high end winger. The talk I heard was Suter and Parise were good friends and wanted to go somewhere together. The Wings have the cap space and like the Yankees in MLB, they are often seen as THE destination. I hope that's enough to bring them both in. |
Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
SJ Mike, we will just have to agree to disagree on this one....I would not be shocked in the least to see Parise and Suter both end up in Motown. Not as certain as the Cup residing in SoCal this summer....but close. :r

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread
The American Hockey League said its officials made a mistake in allowing a fluke overtime goal to stand in Game 3 of the Calder Cup final.
The goal gave the Norfolk Admirals a 1-0 win Wednesday night and a 3-0 series lead over the Toronto Marlies. The Admirals got the win after defenseman Mike Kostka's dump-in hit a stanchion deep in the Marlies zone and bounced into an open net. Toronto goalie Ben Scrivens was behind the goal to play the incoming puck, but could only watch as the puck took a wild bounce. The officials didn't notice Norfolk had at least one player offside when the puck was shot in. According to AHL rules, the goal should have been disallowed. AHL president Dave Andrews says in a statement that despite the error, the result will stand. Norfolk can clinch the Calder Cup by winning Game 4 on Saturday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BPsaKNqBXc |

My point was and Tom you know this with the todays Salary cap history means little. Look at how the cup is visiting all kinds of new homes and it appears it will again this year. Wings recent history is 2010 Sharks took them out in 2nd round. 2011 the same. 2012 the Preds got them in the 1st round. As players looking at teams who want to win a cup they know this. That means they need to produce more then the players that have left over the last few years. If its a cash grab I could see it. If they are looking to win the cup I would think they would look to other teams. The Wings are not two players away and I think that will play a factor if they are looking to win a cup now. Although who knows maybe the cup is going to Jersey :su |
