Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Finally finished off the bottle of Troy & Sons Heirloom Moonshine this past weekend. Opened my bottle of Larceny at last night's poker game.
WOW!!! Great flavor, and a very long finish. Worth finding and buying a bottle!! |

I just gave the last couple glasses-worth away to a good friend who hasn't tried Eagle Rare yet. Wasn't able to make the Super Bowl party he was throwing, so sent it with someone else to give to him as a surprise. hopefully it didn't get drank in transit. :) |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Surprisingly I still haven't tried ER yet. I'll have to crack my bottle once I get over this cold

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Thinking of picking up a bottle of corner creek. Any of you try the stuff?
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Picked up a bottle of Jefferson's Reserve since the darn ABC stores locally don't have Angels Envy, despite it being on the ABC catalog.

Some new pick ups. The oyo is a local company here in Columbus. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Kind've new to the Bourbon game. Drank good beer after work to wind down for years, now trying Bourbon. One or two drinks instead of countless beers...
Just finished my first bottles of Woodford Reserve and Larceny over the past month...Now on to a Henry McKenna Single Barrel. Really smooth as far as I know it. Almost as good as The Four Roses SB I've had on occasion. Any more suggestions for a rookie? |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I love Angels Envy rye (finished in rum barrels) and their bourbon (finished in port barrels) is also very good.
Scored this bottle of ORVW 10yr yesterday :noon http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...psa166bf4f.jpg |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Glad I saw this thread. Been reading through it all. I am not much of a drinker but I do enjoy a nice drink with a good cigar. Usually I only drink when at my local B&M event. Is there a general consensus on what a good bourbon would be to start off with? I want to buy a bottle or two to have on hand for the house. Also trying to get into Rum but I know I like both. Just don't know the difference between them all. Need a starting point and want to avoid anything nasty out there. Thanks!

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Finally found these on a trip to Atlanta (airport) today. Will have to wait for tasting until I finish the Larceny I'm currently working on.

Grabbed EH Taylor small batch and the 25th anny Bookers. Both top notch.

And here's a pic of my recently completed cabinet. Big thanks to my buddy Kyle who helped with the construction. Remote control lights, even!

Just picked up a bottle of this:
http://www.bourbonblog.com/wp-conten...ottle-shot.png Awesome stuff. Nice flavor and very affordable. It's made by Wild Turkey so if your local shop doesn't have it you can probably order it easily. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Random find of the day: Eagle Rare 17. Woot!

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
It's been quiet in here. Anyone pick up a bottle of the Four Roses 2014 LE? Struck out here.
Did pick some rocket fuel yesterday http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...44A135F715.jpg |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I picked these up last week traveling thru Knoxville. Got to do a taste test on each beforehand, and decided they both required purchase! The 9 year old is exceptionally smooth, but not as flavorful as the 11 year old one. The older one was not as smooth, but was bursting with flavor!

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I think it's time to try and revive this thread.
Been getting back into the bourbons lately, picked up a bottle of Four Roses yellow label and a bottle of Larceny. I really like the Four Roses but wow, the Larceny is just awesome. Sweet, smooth, just a bit of bite and a long finish. I'll have to keep an eye out for some more Heaven Hills products. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I had a parent of a client bring me bottle of Angel's Envy as a thank you. Wow, was I impressed. Great finish! Just a little bit of sweetness.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Has anybody tried Jefferson's Ocean yet? I can not find it up here is WA.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Revising the thread is a great idea. I have been into a number of new to me bourbons recently.
I'll mention one now that is very reasonable and surprisingly wonderful. Has anyone else recently tried Jim Beam Black (Double Aged)? |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
WOW! WOW! WOW!
Top of the line bourbons. I have been lucky enough to have sampled them all, several times each. For what it's worth, IMHO, I favor the Stagg as my No. 1 choice, followed by the 10yo Van Winkle as No. 2 |

You, sir, have superb taste! Best of the best right there! :tu |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Yeah I have heard that the Stagg is really good, If I could get it here (they just don't ever make it to the shelfs in Canada) I would have tried it long ago but the fact that everyone of these took quite a bit of hunting and hassle to get, especially the Pappy's I'm kinda hoping it is sub hype or it will be difficult for me to track them down in the future. That being said I am on the look out for more Pappy's and Stagg should anyone feel the need to help a guy out by point him in the right direction these coming months.
