Yeah, I won't be clicking the link, I'm guessing it is the Mario Jr. (Jaromir) goal.

Lemeiieuxx is Satan as far as I am concerned. :r

Yesterday's My Hero of the Day:

Dustin Brown with another game winner.

This guy needs to wear the Indian Head.

A good start. The Devils were a checking machine the first two periods though.

Nice 3rd period for the Blueshirts. I predict another long series though, maybe another 7 games.

I think you are right. their game is not suited to running away from anyone. That leaves very little margin for error.

Close but no cigar (no pun intended. :D)

The Youtube link I posted was of Mario's game winner in Game 1 of the '92 Stanley Cup Finals. Y'know the goal when they lined up for a faceoff in the Blackhawks zone with like 17 seconds left? Ron Francis wins the face off and Larry Murphy takes the shot. The rebound comes off of Belfour right to Lemieux who buries it. :D

My Heroes of the Day. :)

Looks like Marty Hanzal may sit Game 3.

Nice acting again by Smith on contact he initated. And what were the refs smoking giving Brown a "diving" call on that chop in the back of the leg by Smith? I have been there, that chit hurts. Smith should get a game, but I am sure he will not.

X 2

As well as Smith's dive late, when I thought they may send someone in late to run him...... I don't think he'll get a game, but just saying......

Smith's whack on Brown was bad, I didn't realize that Brown got a diving call on it. Smith's dive was weak and obvious, and I can't believe they let him get away with it!

I do hope they don't give Doan any extra discipline after his hit, that was bad timing and I don't think it should have been major or game to begin with. Hanzal on the other hand...yea that was bad.

Couldn't agree more on all points...to call diving on Brown was rediculous!

brown got the "diving" call because it was already a 2 man advantage...had it taken place when 5 on 5...smith would have gotten the only penalty.

ron hextall...made a living doing this.

as usuall...the refereeing in hockey remains the weak link of a beautiful game. f***king linesman think they are the stars of the show at every faceoff.

I think it gets worse the farther down the hockey chain it goes. I've seen Refs toss 12 year old kids out of faceoffs, and spend what seems like minutes getting them all lined up perfectly. At least at the level my kid plays at, there is *some* merit to it, but one Ref in particular is a total buzzkill on the ice with his insistence on perfection at the faceoff.

My biggest gripe this year at the NHL level was/is the officiating. An occasional mistake is one thing, but this year the Refs have taken over the game and in many cases are influencing outcomes.

Not that this really happened yesterday, but the "There was already a man advantage" argument should have ZERO bearing on calling another penalty.

i didnt say i agreed with the call(i didnt)...just saying why the "dive" was called...and yes the current manpower situation should have nothing to do with a fair unbiased referee's call...but it did and it does(influence the refs)...as i said before...the weak link in a beautiful game.

to call a good game...refs should be invisible.

The Devils have had their way mucking it up at the Rangers' end for too many extended stretches. That needs to be handled better by my guys or it will bite them too many times.

Him combined with Sutter ought to make for the worst combined post game interviews in nhl finals history.

Difference being Sutter is just a bad interview. Atleast he makes an effort though.

Not sure if anyone has gone playing only 13.
I know as Tom mentioned no team has ever beat the #1,2,&3 seeds. I agree Kings look unstoppable. They have all the elements. Seems they will take who ever comes out of the east. That would be an epic run.

Found this elsewhere, not quite 13 games played stats but close.

The Oilers in 1983*, the Red Wings in 1995, and the Penguins in 2008 All started the playoffs 11-1, including 3-0 leads in each series.

All lost in the Finals. Oilers and Wings were swept. Oilers were swept by Islanders, Wings were swept by the Devils.

*This opening round was a best-of-five and they won it 3-0.

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread

since it started taking 16 wins to win the stanley cup...1988 edmonton oilers-16 and 2.
is the best record i can think of.

however many games to get to the 2nd or 3rd or 4th rounds counts for nothing(in my opinion)...just ask last years canucks.

i watched every game in '88 that the oilers played...it was actually a 4 1/2 game sweep(in the finals) over the bruins.

Interesting series in the East. Game 3 I thought Devils played well enough to win, but couldn't get a goal. Yesterday different result. More interesting was the Rangers meltdown. This series really could go either way. I'm going to pull for the Devils.

Everyone is of the opinion the Kings finish the Yotes tonight and plAy the waiting game. Think the cup will be coming to California regardless.

It definitely was. Third period on was almost unbelievable. For a while I thought they were trying to give it to Phoenix.

As far as it being a dead thread, I guess that is what happens when the Canucks, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Bruins and Penguins all get knocked out in the first round. I think that made it great, but all those teams have pretty big fan bases.

Shows you that a lot of the people who post here are Homers, Mike, so once their team is out, they are done. Others, including you and me, love the game regardless.

I think the Kings' forecheck is the most impressive in the postseason, so aggressive with 2 guys on the puck, knowing Quick and the D can bail them out.

Devils forecheck could pay off with the wear and tear they are putting on Girardi, Del Zotto, McDunagh and others....I am sure they are hoping for a tired bunch of Rangers D-men in Games 6 and potential Game 7. Although Clarkson has been a beast and he may be less than 100% after the last couple games.

I am no so sure it is that, as much as some just are watching, but having no vested interest other than watching hockey....don't have enough to say about it to come on and discuss.

Meaning, I am not sure that they love the game more or less than those posting, just don't feel strongly enough about it after to come post.... Less emotional investment, need to express happiness or disappointment to the masses.

Looked dirty to me last night when I watched it live and the couple replays they had during the game. Haven't taken a second look today or to see if Brown had anything to say about it.

After another viewing, I am going to change my opinion of 'dirty hit' to a 'bad, knee on knee hit, that came after the whistle and probably could have been avoided'. It should have been a penalty, but not worth supplemental discipline.

Being a former Thrashers fan, I wouldn't mind seeing Kovalchuk and Hedberg getting a cup. Not a Devils fan though.

The announcers kept talking about the officials working their way into the Finals. Haven't seen too many referees who deserve to move on. It seems that the linesmen have done better. For the record, I do check the thread daily but seldom post any more.

They can only be disappointed with themselves. They got a couple fluky goals or it would have been way worse. Going back to jersey, the devils definitely have the momentum.

Worst Officiating Season Ever.

I thought Doughty was gonna have an embolism right on the ice after the blown offside call.

Little calls like that *can* change games, and these guys are supposed to be the best of the best. You just can't miss stuff like that.

My biggest issue with the NHL isn't head shots, boardings or fights, it's the horrible officiating.

They are human, Scott, they are gonna miss a call here and there. Game happens at lightning's pace at that level, and linesmen get caught in bad positions at times. We have the luxury of slow motion and instant replay. Not an easy job, to say the least, but until they install laser beam blue lines, huimans have to make the calls. :)
