Re: What beers are you enjoying?
That reminds me, it's finally cold enough to crack open one of the barleywines I've been cellaring since last winter. Sweet!

Anything Magic Hat
pick up one of the samplers if you get the chance, i promise you you won't be dissappointed. |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
I don't drink much beer, more of a liquor guy myself but I have a buddy who keeps bringing me beer to try... he's odd like that.
Lately I've had: Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout Breckenridge Vanilla Porter Stone IPA Sam Adams Scotch Ale (never even heard of this before, but it was good :)) |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Speaking of Sam Adams I was looking at their site online and I've never even seen HALF of the different types of beer they make. What's up with that? All I see at any of my local places are Octoberfest, Winter Brew, Boston Lager and Black Lager.
where do you find all these different varieties? Double Bock, White Ale, Old Fezziwig, Cranberry Lambic, Holiday Porter, Cream Stout, Honey Porter, Irish Red??? |

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Mmmmmm, beeer....
I brew my own, but spend about $50 a week at the local BB&M anyway. I'm brewing a trappist today which we'll be drinking over Xmas. Some of my top beers: Duvel - Belgian Strong Pale Ale Dogfishhead - World Wide Stout (20% abv, more like a port than a beer) Dogfishhead - Palo Santo Ommegang - Three Philosophers Victory - Hopdevil Stone - Imperial Russian Stout Stone - Ruination Double IPA Chimay - Premier Trappist I could go on for hours, but I have beer to brew... |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Just had My first Ipswitch Oatmeal Stout the other day (got it out of the sampler pack that they have) I will be getting more of those.
|
Re: What beers are you enjoying?

Amazing. Dark. So thick it didn't even form a head. Amazing. |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
I homebrew, and had one of my homebrewed versions of Gose (not Gueze) last night. Info on the style:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gose http://www.beerhunter.com/documents/19133-001353.html I bottled some in long neck bottles like the ones pictured. While getting my cigars together for the Ybor Herf in my cellar last night I noticed that one of the corks had blown out. The mess was very minimal thankfully. But I realized these may not last. So they went into the fridge. They open with a great 'pop' just like sparkling wine. That sound is very satisfying, especially when its something you've created yourself. BTW, if you can find this style of beer and enjoy sour beers, this is a great beer. There are only a couple commercial versions that make it over here though. |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Great Lakes Brewing Company Nosferatu and Bells Brown tonight. Mmmm good stuff.
|
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Currently I'm on a Young's Double Chocolate Stout kick. Last week it was the Sam Adams Holiday Sampler.
|
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Just Newcastle Brown Ale and Stella Artois right now. Nothing that fancy.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Recently I discovered that I really enjoy Sierra Nevada Porter!!!:dr

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
My number one, favorite beer right now (and has been for some time) is Guinness. Some people say they find it too heavy or that it fills them up... It's the opposite with me. I can put back 15 pints of those and fall down like the best of them, but I don't feel full or bloated doing it.
I've recently likened it to my Kryptonite... :al |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
mmmm....Guinness....
Right now I am enjoying Eric's Red cream ale from a local brewery (Quidi Vidi). I'm also a big fan of Innis and Gunn oak aged Scottish beer. |

Marc you can drink it straight without any problem. I can vouch and say that you have done it! :al |

You've probably had this out for a while, but the Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale just made it to my BB&M. :al I had been drinking Brooklyn Brewery's Black Chocolate Stout, but they jacked the price up to $12/6pk a few weeks ago, so f that. Making my way thru the varieties of Bell's beers. I'm still a Two-Hearted Ale whore, though. |

I may have mentioned this brand already much earlier on in this thread but man oh man. I just found a couple bottles of the Russian River Brewing Co's PLINY THE ELDER at the Beverage Warehouse out in Culver City/Marina Del Rey and snatched them out of the cooler (they require refrigeration). I can usually only find this on tap occasionally at one of my favorite bars at the Redondo Beach Pier (Naja's Place where they have 77 beers on tap and another 623 elsewhere). Last time I was there, they didn't have it. I popped one of my two open last night at dinner and man, oh man, oh man.....this is my favorite beer right now. |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Right now I have two in my fridge.
1. Deschutes Mirror Pond: A crisp and clean pale ale from Bend, OR. Not as hoppy as an IPA, but with a pleasing floral nose and a respectable semi-bitter finish. This was on sale at my local liquor store so I took a chance, and I would definitely purchase it again. I'd like to try this one on tap. 2. New Belgium 1554: You'll say I'm partial because I live in Colorado, and I accept that. This is the best example of black ale brewed this side of Mandaloria. Smoky, just the right amount of hoppiness with a chocolatey finish, but not heavy. Essentially a porter. And the only reason I'm partial to it is because it's sold in just about any store in this state. Lucky me. |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Tonight is the 3 flights of Chamay...
|
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Last night I had an Innis & Gunn - Rum Cask - Oak Aged Beer. WOW beer aged in old rum barrels, what a novel idea. Great beer, a little on the pricey side at $4.95 ea but on occasion well worth it.
|
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
A test brew bitter from my Uncles brewery Keltek - no name yet, but he's hoping to market it as a half and half case with a blonde ale/lager, in a 'stubby' format - 33cl or 11ish US Fl.oz. Should be a bargain when it comes out!

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Bell's Christmas Ale...this is purportedly a scotch style ale. Very, very drinkable and a good session beer -- which is atypical of the moniker "Christmas ale" -- which usually suggests the inclusion of a bunch of frou frou spices.
Not one to age, but a good beer to drink now. Can't say that I've ever been displeased with a beer from this brewery. |

I've been trying a few locally brewed ones lately after being a "larger lout" for a few years, I keep going back to Bombadier by Wells and Waggledance by Wells for a lighter more "largery" taste.
