So is the Nica Libre a confirmed AJ blend? I've seen it pop on and off the list here and I've heard mixed reports from other places...

I have seen many (CI, CBID, CIGAR.com, etc) sell samplers/5 packs that say he is so that's close enough for me.

Plus I haven't heard anything to the contrary. :tu

Gave a buddy a Nica libre and he really enjoyed it. I wish they didn't try to compare these to Padrons.

I was all set to order then the shipping of 5.95 added in was the deal breaker. Still a great deal but I have a decent Cbid shipment on the way so this loses. :(

Couldn't wait and bid on some Diesel 5 packs from Cbid. Won both. I hope I like them. If I don't I won't have any problem getting rid of them. ;)

On a seperate note I tried the La Cuna Bin 85 the Toro Size and was not bad but not fantastic either. I was doing a review for a web site so I'll post that here somewhere too. It was ROTT so maybe some time would help.

I *try* to let new smokes sit for at least a couple of weeks, especially if they come from CI/cbid. It's tough sometimes, because I've only been smoking cigars for a bit over a year, and there's tons of stuff out there that I want to try. Having a cooler stocked with my favorite cheap smokes helps fight the urge to smoke that new buzztastic stick too soon and taint the experience. :r

I enjoyed a great bidding week on Cbid 04/16 through 04/21 too (maybe too many wins). This included the Diesel 5er and looking forward to rec'v them soon (and other winnings):)

You know with all the bidders her if we were to collectively bid (or not bid) on the AJ F stuff we may be able to artificially keep the price down. Would take some team work/trust but it could be done.

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

By no means is this a formal analysis, but just in the last few months I've seen the price of Fernandez blends start to creep up on cbid. The guy makes great sticks, IMO, and the buzz is increasing the bidding competition.
On the one hand it's a nice to see the recognition for a talented blender, OTOH: stay the hell away from *my* sticks... :r

Is AJ a CI exclusive more or less? I was in my B n M 2day and he said they couldn't get most (or all) of his stuff because he said "there a CI exclusive". I'd like to add he really likes AJ stuff and has even given me a Man O War or two. (Which I REALLY appreciated). :)

Reposado 96
Rocky Patel Fusion\
Rocky Patel Double Maduro
Rocky Patel Signature
Sol Cubano Cuban Cabinet[/quote]

I was perusing the Robustojoe.com and found the following listed as AJ Fernandez blends and some other supposed AJ stuff.....

* Gurkha Microbatch S-2
* Gurkha Microbatch C-10
* Gurkha Microbatch TPB-1
* Gurkha Park Avenue
* Indian Tabac Split Decision

Also if you look at this link at Cigar.com about the Indian Tabac Nopareil.

The secret to Indian Tabac Nonpareil rests in its specially selected tobacco, which is fermented using a secret family recipe employed by A.J. Fernandez, the owner of the factory producing not only Nonpareil but also the coveted Indian Tabac 10th Anniversary and Split Decision. This unique tobacco, combined with Rocky Patel's blending expertise, has made Indian Tabac Nonpareil a cigar that is truly "matched by no other". Filled with Nicaraguan long fillers, Nonpareil is wrapped with either a creamy
Connecticut wrapper or a spicy Habano seed wrapper, leading to a complex, medium bodied blend.

Sol Cubano Artisan

AJ (Fernandez) immediately started to explain that this was his best roller and the only one in the factory qualified to make the sought after Sol Cubano Artisan, a barber pole and pinstripe cigar unlike any other in the cigar industry. Watching her work was captivating, and no one moved for at least 30 minutes as we looked on in utter amazement.

According to CI/Cbid...

The 90-rated Padilla Habano hails from Esteli, Nicaragua and is meticuously hand-crafted in the Tabacalera Fernandez factory. ... ......Expertly blended by Ernesto Padilla.....

I had a few of the Sol Cubano Lancero's and they were ok. I got the sampler with all the sizes. What are your favorite sizes in the SCCC line?

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

I have a 5ver of the SCCC but haven't had any yet I just got it 2 weeks ago but it is on the list! On a seperate note I won a box of the Triple A's and a box of the La Herencia Cubana Oscuro Fuerte's 65 and 40 bucks resepectivly. About 3 bucks a stick for the AAA's and 2 bucks for the LHCOF's

Smoking a Toro Sized SCCC and it's a lighter cigar but very nice, me like alot.

kenstogie 04-27-2010 10:34 PM

Re: AJ Fernandez blends

I may be going out on a very thin limb here but the SCCC I had seems to have a cubenesque quality to it. There was a slight grassiness to it that I think will subside w/age and it will become even better. What avalue at less than 2 bux a stick. IMHO.

Right they are I did notice them but they are few and far between. That's not saying I won't keep my eyes open for them. The SCCC bands are alot nicer in person than the pics of them, I know it doesn't matter about the actual cigar but I think this it'd be a good beginner cigar so when you hand them out it is nice to have good band.

Cigar.com Daily deal, Sol Cubana Cuban Cabinet Selection $12 a 5ver and if you buy 2 shipping is usually free. Everyone I have given this cigar too loves it. Don't understand why so cheap but I aint complaining either.

Got an AF question for you all. Just smoked a MOW that I got in a sampler from the devil site, not sure if it was the regular or the ruination? It was a torpedo that had a band around the foot. The main band looked like the standard, but I see none of them with a band around the foot. Ruination or regular blend?

A great smoke regardless, tempted to buy a box but not sure which one I just smoked.

Sounds like a Ruination. They had a foot band for a while before they switched to the current bands.

I don't have any but would like to try them. I have had great luck with the AJF Stuff so I want to try them all. That's not to say I like all his stuff but most of what I've tried I consistently like.

I might be interested in a 5er of the maddies if someone wants to start up a box split. Had a couple of the habanos in a sampler and enjoyed them, but have no burning desire to try the connies.

Well, I just stumbled upon this thread and thought I'd share some interesting experiences I've had with some Fernandez blends in the Blind Taste Test thread. Traded some unbanded sticks with kenstogie (I should have checked this thread before making my guesses, Ken! ;)) and smoked them all in the last few weeks. Four of the sticks were by Fernandez--my blind reviews are here:

5 Vegas Triple A (ROTT)
MOW (7-8 months)
Nica Libre (4 months)
La Herencia Cubana Oscuro Fuerte Robusto (4 months)

Good stuff, except for the Man o' War--that was great stuff and is now on my "must buy" list! :dr

Thanks, Ken!
