Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
I usually roll the ash off. Makes me feel like a gentlemanly scholar!
But really - it is just how I learned to ash a cigar. :sh Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
This question has never come up. Given that of the guys I normally smoke with, only one has what I would consider a sound knowledge of cigars (and that sure isn't me!)...and the fact that our favourite ashtray is a damaged Dana35 diff cover sitting on the middle of a 1/4" thick steel work bench, ashing technique has never really bin a topic of discussion -(P
But...we smoke what we like, and we like what we smoke :noon |
Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
Never an issue for me because I always forget and end up wearing it in my lap :)

Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
Enjoy your cigar, "tap and roll" the "expert".

Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
Gotta love the "know it all"!!
I give one lite tap with my finger. If it doesnt release, it wasnt time. Let it ride for a little while longer. I dont ash just to get rid of it, I ash when it gets long and is ready to plop. |

Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
It all depends on where and when I am smoking.
Outside, hanging? Don't care. Laying in bed drinking late at night? I keep it rolled off. Burned my self too many times. |
Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
everyone knows the only proper way to ash a cigar is to hand it to the girl who walks into the B&M and have her jump up and down until the ash falls off:)

Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
I do it both ways too and as others said this guy sounds like a nutjob. Not to say there's anything wrong with a nut, but I'd rather live without them...I've heard that you should let the ash remain on the stick as long as possible as it produces a cooler smoke. Whatever works best with your style.
Cheers :gary |
Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
The guy is clearly ignant. I have a servant ash for me. That's the proper way.

Re: To tap or roll??? That is the question
I roll my off but thats only because I read it was correct when I first started smoking.
I haven't really noticed anybody else do it though. I read you should never tap you ash but who really cares, cigars are all about your personal experience and what you enjoy! I prefer not to ash at all but sometimes it is innapropriate |
