Serious Comment:
Cellophane is porous. It will emit and/or retain moisture.

Experiment:
Take the cellophane sleeve off of a cigar that is very moist. . . especially a cigar that is a little over-humidified. Or, take a cellophane sleeve and put it in a baggie with a water soaked wet sponge. Let it set in the extremely high humidity for about 5 hours.

Now, take it out and crumple it up with your hand. Note that it is pliable and somewhat soft. Write your findings in your lab note book.

Next, take another cellophane sleeve that has been setting out (after you enjoyed your fine cigar) and leave it in the driest environment you can find. . . we live in the desert (Las Vegas) and that would be outside just about anytime. You can use the refrigerator over night for a dry place too. Or, stick it in the warm (not hot) oven after you baked your cookies or something.

Then, crumple up that dried cellophane! You'll see the difference! It's crisp and crackly! The difference in this cellophane experiment is the moisture! This also proves that cellophane absorbs moisture. Therefore, moisture can be emitted from cellophane! Write your findings in your lab note book.

Conclusion:
Cellophane will retard the release and/or absorption of moisture but, it will not prohibit moisture loss nor will it prohibit the slow absorption of moisture. It plays a role in controlling the loss and/or gain of moisture.

My Opinion:
I respect my cellophane sleeves. However, I do not adore my cellophane sleeves as the lovely cigars they are designed to protect.

Bands & Labels:
I like my cigars with their fancy 'factory' bands on. It's just my opinion. We all become attached to "brands" because the colorful bands (& brands they represent) indicate what tobacco (blends) are in that particular cigar. THAT is why bands (& ribbons) are important to me!

I like to keep the cellophane on because if they came in there might as well keep them in there. It offers so extra protection from what I see, and it still keeps the cigars well humidified regardless of their covering.

Furthermore, I prefer to single-sack the nakeds, to keep them protected.

I leave the cello on if they came packaged that way. Don't even care about the pros or cons. This hobby is no fun when I over analyze it.

I do primarily because I don't smoke anywhere near my humi (in my apt.) So, to minimize risk of damage in transport (nontrivial, I'm pretty ham fisted) I keep 'em in cello.

I'd RATHER not. But it's not worth ruining the sticks over.

I hand knit small cigar cozies for all my sticks because I heard that cello doesn't breathe well. I only use virgin yak wool because it is the only kind of virgin I can find around here.

I take it out of the cello because i cna't help but to take a peek when i'm close to the humidor and smell the cigars. I swear i can smell raisins now just by smelling the wrapper.

I had mine on for a while, but I like the way the sticks look naked in the humidor.

I do keep it on cigars that I'm aging so I can see how long it takes to yellow the cellophane. So once I find that out, I may take it off for everything.

Due to manufacturing differences, not all cello yellows at the same rate. Additionally, certain external factors can greatly accelerate the yellowing process.

I actually wait until my cigars have aged just enough to give the cello a great taste, and then i discard the cigar and smoke the cello.

As a quality control experiment, I suppose that one could remove half the cello from a stick, but which half? There are so many to choose from.

I leave them as I get 'em, except for cigars that are also wrapped in cedar. If that's the case, I strip 'em down.

Mine are stripped down and go into the humi Naked! No Cello Here - by the way some said they came that way - well many of the fine ones do not come that way and it is for a reason.:2:banger:banger

They also look better and feel better in the nude.:ss
