got out of it when companies started selling different lines/series. Seems like everything i had collected is now not worth much.

The market got over-saturated in the 90's... Didn't help one bit IMHO

It's even worse now. It started in 1996 when Upperdeck released the first game-used card (card with a piece of a game used jersey in it). At that point, even the no-namers in the set were worth at least 50 bucks. Now there's two or three jersey cards in a 24 count box and you'd be lucky to fetch $5 for them. They need to enforce some quality and quantity control on these products. Each of the major brands are producing about 10=15 products in each sport a year. Ridiculous!

I remember there used to be card and collector shops all over the country, but now they're hard to find. The industry did itself in.

Yeah, and I think Upperdeck was the main culprit. The plus side is that certain sports (including MLB) are now selling rights to produce cards to only one main manufacturer a year now. The down side is that company will still make 100 products to make up for it :td

I do still collect some choice stuff though which includes mostly hall of famers.

The football season's nearly over. It's almost time to pick up 09 products on the cheap for you collectors out there.

I have several binders full of baseball cards in the closet. Most of them are complete sets from the late 80's early 90's. Haven't even touched them in over 10 years :)

I collect autographed cards and the Topps reprint sets, like the 1991 reprint of the 1953 set and the 1994 reprint of the 1954 set (including the 2 Wiliiam's and the Mantle that were printed as specials by Upper Deck)...also have the 1956-57 football reprint set and several others...also collect some other bits and pieces of baseball & football memoribilia...my youngest brother also has a ton of memoribilia that he collects, but then he's a sports agent for real...a real Jerry Mcquire...handles football only and has about a dozen guys or so on various teams around the NFL...

Used to collect baseball autographs and had a very nice collection. Have sold off much of it, but still have about 500 signed 8 x 10s that were personalized to me. When I collected, most players would still sign through the mail.

Now, frankly, E-Bay has ruined that hobby.
