Hang a dartboard on the wall, tilt your head back and keep score....

Or you could use some of those computer vaccuum attachments to a shop vac instead. No mess, no muss, no fuss.

Re: Taking care of your Sinus Cavity

I never saw this old post ... but was actually thinking about starting a thread on this myself.

I have chronic sinusitis, along with multiple allergies. Smoking doesn't seem to have that much of a negative effect honestly (I've gone weeks without smoking with no results), but my bad sinuses DEFINITELY have a negative effect on my smoking, and sometimes my palate just isn't trustworthy and I never know when that will be--very annoying!

I'm seeing an ENT now (professionally, that is ... my wife is an OBGYN, lol), and she "prescribed" Neli Med. She said before we looked at any crazy drugs or procedures, we'd try this. I've been using it every day for about 3 months and not only have I felt better, but my enjoyment of cigars has increased significantly!

However, for the last 3 weeks or so I've had what seems like a bad cold. My nasal passages close up (it's particularly bad at night) off and on and nothing seems to be working. It could just be a bad cold ... but that's a long freakin' cold! Grrr....

Nate,

Try using double the saline packets - ie: two of the blue ones for the 240ml bottle. It'll burn the first time you use it. but it might clear things up a bit. When I talked to a doctor about that I was told that you can do the double strength wash for about 10 days, then if nothing has improved, then it's something beyond what salt is capable of curing (or killing as the case may be) and other avenues or treatment need to be evaluated.

i spoke with acoupel of locals saying that they use the warm saline rinse and al lthis gunk comes out. I bought some and tried it and nothing came out... The peopel that told me that gunk came out were a bit older than i am (and they said that their being older may have something to do with it).. is that why? or am I just doing it wrong?

Yes Bobby, you're doing it wrong. You need to keep repeating it once every 30 minutes until something comes out. After that point, you will have broken down the mucus barrier that is blocking things from coming out and after that it will work properly. You could alternately speed up the process by mixing a few drops of Tabasco into the bottle and rinsing with that - that should usually do it in one shot.

That's a good idea, thanks, I'll try that today!

As an aside to this it is my understanding on my reading that you should avoid brushing your teeth right away after smoking a cigar. If you must do so then it is best to rinse thoroughly before brushing your teeth.

The basis was (if I remember the article correctly) is that brushing your teeth breaks open blood vessels in your gums and you then allow the carcinogens from the recent cigar smoking. Apparently increasing your chances of mouth cancer.

I personally have stopped brushing my teeth altogether :D
