The Preds did great this year before acquiring Radulov and Andrei K., so I look for them to get a win tonight.

I won't comment on the Rangers-Caps for fear of upsetting my friend Davey-Boy. :)

(Sorry, BWD...couldn't resist. :))

The refs did miss a call there (Clarkson broke Coburn's stick in half with a slash), but their play cost them the game, for sure. After the first period the Flyers played like they were three goals up, not one. Giroux and Hartnell were more "unnoticable" last night than any other game in the playoffs. Give the Devils some credit there, but they...along with many others, just seemed flat. Bryz really did seem to play well, even in the third when he gave up three.

I'm not too concerned....yet. I think the Flyers will rebound and at least split in Newark. Hopefully, take both.

;)

Can't believe the Rangers pulled that one out. They looked gassed from the 1st OT. Looked to me like the Caps dominated *most* of the OT's.

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread

I saw a lot of heavy legs from the middle of the 1st OT on. A lot of good cycling on both sides. The d-men were having a hard time grinding it out of their end. McDonagh logged over 53 minutes. That is a crazy amount. Ovetchkin's shot looked like the end of the game until it banged off the post. Both goalies had to stand on their head in this one.

Listening on my phone in patrol car last night. Even the radio broadcast was very exciting. Would have loved to watch.

Nice to see Peka rebound. Funny though only checked that game between rangers caps periods.

I paid more attention to the East game too, even though I am more interested in the West....just seemed from early on that the Preds game would never be in doubt.

Now let's go Kings! :D

Frustrating game tonight (as a Flyers fan). Quite a few mistakes by some of the "youngins", Schenn and Gustafsson in particular. NJ is playing tough and really shining on the forecheck and cycle.

My Hero of the Day:

Kings become the first #8 seed in NHL history to beat their conferences #1 and #2 seeds in the same season.

Coyotes are #3.... ;)

:fu2 ;)

Well, at least he got a gift last night...not often you can play the puck outside the trapazoid and not get called for a delay of game. The NBCS guys completely screwed up the reason Giroux was so hot at the end of the second (that's what he was PO'd about).

The Flyers are getting completely outplayed by the Devils. Almost seems like there are six or seven Devils on the ice when the pucks are around either the offensive or defensive zone boards.

If any team left has a shot at overcoming 3-1, Joel, it's Philly.

...and I remember hearing during a game this weekend that Stan Mikita actually had the most of those in his career, with 22. Howe only had 4, from what they said during the game.

I have heard most hockey experts say Howe only had one...but I did hear those commentators make the 2, 3 or 4 comment.

Mikita was my favorite player as a kid, so I was excited to hear that from them as well.

Giroux suspended for game 5. Can't say I'm shocked, but thought it was 50/50 if he'd get suspended or not.

I watched Shanahan's video. Like the NBCS guys, he misunderstood Giroux's frustration with the ref just before the hit. Giroux was even interviewed about it last night (locally). They're making it seem as though the hit was retaliatory for the (legal) check he received. It wasn't, he was ticked about Brodeur playing the puck outside the trapazoid.

Shanahan video link

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread

Not saying I dont believe Girouxs story, but even if true going back and headshoting a guy was not smart. I didnt think the Devils would take out Philly, but its looking that way. Now if the Caps can take out the Rangers that would make for a east final nobody expected.

Cant see Nashville taking the next three games so its a Pacific Division final. Going to have to go with LA. Also going to hard to pick against them for the cup. Dont think anyone in the east gas the same goaltending or fire power as LA.

Re: NHL '11 - '12 Thread

I hadn't thought much about Claude's hit since it happened, but I must admit I was suprised to hear he was suspended. I expect Philly to use it as motivation and win at home.

Mike, I like the idea of Dustin Brown being handed the hardware by Mister Bettman. :tu

No doubt he shouldn't have "headshot" Zubrus....but the league's video was edited (only showing the zoom-in on Giroux) and discussed by Shanahan, hinting that it was a retaliatory hit. I wish I could find the "non-zoomed-in" video but it is clear as day that Giroux was not PO'd by being checked, but by instead by the missed call. I'm not saying it wasn't a penalty, and arguably suspendable, but to construe it as retaliatory when it clearly wasn't is wrong when you argue that's part of the justification of the suspension.

In lieu of a video, the best I could do was find this commentary by Bob McKenzie...http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/bob_mckenzie/?id=395252

Great game in NYC, that is playoff hockey.

Not so much in Phoenix, Smith continues to amaze, and I continue to hate him.

Before the series started, I would have said I'll be shocked if the Flyers can't get past the Devils. Going into last night's game, after the way the series had played out to that point...I wasn't shocked. Disappointed? You bet.

Idealistically I'd love to see:

- Caps lose tonight

- A hissyfit of menopausally epic proportions after Torts and the Rags lose in the SCF.

As a Penguins fan I hate both the Caps and the Rangers with a burning passion. With that said though, I hate Ovechkin and the Caps a wee bit more. Hopefully they're out tonight.

I think Doc Emrick is past his prime. He mistakes players for others all the time, missed plays, and thinks that every single little shot is a DRRRIIIIIIIIIVVVVVEEEE!

It's spelled "Lemieux" good Sir. Although his name can also be spelled G-O-D. It depends I guess. :D

Game 1 of the '92 Stanley Cup Finals is one of the greatest Pens games ever IMO. Why? Not only because of their comeback, but because of this.... ;)

I've seen the clip of that goal 1000 times and to this day it still gives me goosebumps.
