Thanks Joe Joe, that is huge for my wrist. I am comfortable with abotu 42-43mm at the largest.

Depends what kind of watches you are looking at. How many Patek and Vacheron's are that size? Does Rolex have something bigger than 43 mm?

Got a couple new flieger straps for my Steinhart, both made from waxed buffalo leather. Hard to take decent photos without reflections in the crystal with an iPhone :(

Finally heard back from the place that has my Tag, just needs a thorough service. They knocked the price down to closer to their cost to make me happy. Can't wait to get it back on my wrist. From now on I'm only sending my timepieces to the manufacturers service center.

Yep and way better than the $600 new movement the "authorized" repair center tried to stick me with.

That's all? I don't think I could part with my watch collection. But I probably said the same about my knives at one point and I've downsized a lot.

Re: Wristwatch collectors out there?

I didn't know where else to post this except here. Anyone ever got a rash from their watch? I got my Invicta this past Christmas, and like all my jewelry I do not take it off (for showers or sleep or anything). Well for the past 2 weeks I have broken out in a rash. I have put some hydrocortisone cream on it, but it doesn't seem to be going away. It doesn't itch, it's just gross to look at lol.

Any suggestions to get rid of the rash or a remedy to not have this happen again, I love my watch and I want to wear it. I spoke to a coworker and a doctor at the shop (gyno not dermatologist) who both said to try clear nailpolish, I did a google search and have heard clear glue and tape as well. Is there a band or something I could put on my wrist instead of doing this or what do you think about this?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Wristwatch collectors out there?

How tight are you wearing the watch? This sounds to me either like a reaction to a metal used in the band/case back or your skin reacting to extended pressure and a lack of breathability under the strap. If it's either of those simple hydro-cortisone (or similar) steroid creme and leaving the watch off for a few days should clear it right up. If it's the breathablity issue than just take your watch off at night and that should prevent it from recurring. If not get a referral to a dermatologist and consult an expert ;)

No, I leave my watch loose, I like it to move for the very reason my other watches I have had were too tight and the sun couldn't get to my skin and it would cause a white irritation and flakiness, am I just doomed not to be able to wear a watch? I am thinking I am having an allergic reaction to the nickel to the steel as I have been reading. I haven't had the watch on for 2 weeks now, I even switched wrists to see if I was allergic to the nickel or not and the stems stabbed my hand, so had to ditch that idea.

mithrilG60 04-19-2013 08:42 AM

Re: Wristwatch collectors out there?

A nickel reaction is what I was thinking too. Could also be cobalt as that's another binding agent that some people have sensitivities to. Why not switch to a different strap, leather or nylon, and see if that helps?

Try a titanium, gold or leather strap. Allergic reaction.

I dont think that's going to help guys, its just on the top of my wrist, not where the band would be, but where the back of the watch is, observe:

Do you have the plastic covering the back of the case or is your wrist touching metal? Perhaps you need an all titanium or gold watch?

I took the plastic off I believe :hm will have to double check, maybe I shouldn't have huh? This really upsets me, maybe I can sell it and get a Titanium?

You should take the plastic off. All too often I see it still on the case back; especially on Rolexes. Keep the plastic with the outter box in case you decide to sell later on.

I would definitley take off your watch to sleep and shower man, let your arm air out.
I have a similar problem that happens with my ring finger if I do not remove my ring and dry my finger off after a shower.

Well if this outbreak ever leaves me and I can wear my watch again I will be taking it off, best believe that.

I wash my watch in the sink with an old toothbrush and dishwashing soap. Works great.

One of the shops regulars is a doctor, I spoke to him and he said 1st to stop using the ointment all it does is spread the rash (awesome) and to expect it to come back if I put the watch back on, so double awesome......so I haven't broke the news to the wife yet, not sure what I am going to do yet.

Re: Wristwatch collectors out there?

Finally picked up my Tag today, they did a heck of a job polishing the band and I think they swapped out the bezel, I had a pretty nice ding in the 12 o'clock marker. Plus the movement is back from the dead. So happy I sent it out for a second opinion.

Let me throw this out to you. Do you wear sunglasses? Imagine how dirty they'd be if you wore them to bed and in the shower. Keeping your watch clean will prevent residues from building up and giving you a rash. Think about what happens to your shower if you don't clean it for months. It gets soap scum build up and bacteria. :2

Nice & classy Ade.

Update on me, rash finally cleared up, bought some mole skin and put that on the back of the watch, I do not shower, swim, sleep or wash dishes with my watch on and all seems ok for now.

:dr That is my dream watch. I get on eBay at least once a week just to look at them. I will likely never own one, but it is my "white whale" of watches. All of the designs are just so brilliant.
