Sure, just make sure you order the right handed model, or call them and tell them to make sure they give you the right handed model. Most guns are right handed. For some reason, the one you linked said left handed in the description.

Got a few goodies today in the mail. Picked up the gas block riser from Yankee Hill, a set of Leupold QRW high rings from Natchezs, and two extra magazines from DPMS. Now if only I could get my rifle back from the shop....:sad

Just a quick question. I want to replace the front hand guard on my AR and replace it with one with rails. Do I need the special tool to take it off or does it just unscrew? Sorry If its a noob question

It is best to have 2 people do it. You have to just push down on the ring, really, really hard.

smokeyandthebandit05 01-14-2010 06:29 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I dont think I have a ring. Its more of the aluminum tube and its attached to a round gray thing. I'll take a pic in a bit

here are the install instructions from YHM (yankee hill machine).

http://www.yhm.net/installationinstructions.php

looks like you're going to need to remove the gas block and the gas tube also, in order to remove the locking nut.

Different types of caliber?

If you are getting a 9mm you have to use 9mm. If you are getting a .40, you have to use .40. If you're getting a .45 use .45ACP, not .45GAP like one of my buddies did in his 1911 lol... (unless its a glock :p)

Or you could get a 357 magnum and shoot 357s or 38's....
Then again, I am a wheel gun fan, but traded the 357 for a 38 snubbie before I crippled my right hand permanently.

Just Retribution

AN ACTUAL CRAIG'S LIST PERSONALS AD

To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last.

Date: 2009-05-27, 1:43 a.m.. E.S.T..

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives.. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.

First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... Isn't it?!

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again].

After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful!

I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]

I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... After I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target.

The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).

In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... But I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime.. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life.. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours,

Alex

I didn't see an answer to this question- Post-ban uppers usually don't have bayonet lugs and threaded barrels. Some states (like mine- NY) kept the ban on "assault rifles" after the national one expired. General rules are that if it has a detachable magazine you may have one, and only one, of the following:

Folding/collapsable stock
Pistol grip
Threaded bbl
Bayonet lug
Grenade launching adapter

Most people opt for the pistol grip, since most modern rifles look funny without one. Only counts for weapons manufactured after September 14, 1994. Older weapons are grandfathered.

Most mfr's are aware of this and don't want to write off sales to large states like NY, so post-ban configurations are frequently available, as lame as they may be.

I'm glad you brought this up. I was planning on buying an AR-15 online and had it shipped home in NY for me to pick up. I had a nice DPMS picked out and when I was negotiating with the dealer online he told me I wouldn't be able to get it since I lived in NY. I think I will just pick one up in Texas while I am down there for 10 months.

So then it would be illegal to have the upper in NY if you bought it out of state rite?

Only of you have a lower to go with it.

I'd be careful about buying out-of-state. The law is not on buying/selling banned firearms- it's on posession. Best to comply with the law. I buy pre-ban, or modify. Someday I'll move and catch up on everything I've missed.
