Re: First Firearm Thread.

Well I did pick up my first AR last Thursday. I went for the S&W M&P15 PC
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...371_102962.jpg

I need to get some sort of sight system on this thing and I want some good iron BUIS and was thinkin of these. The thing is the front picatinny rail is about 1/2" lower than the one on the receiver. Is this normal and will it affect the sights I put on it? One more thing. I want some optic sights but dont know what to get. It will be used mostly for target and varmint shooting to at the most 200 years. Suggestions?

Re: First Firearm Thread.

The Troy sights that you have pictured wont work with the set up you have. With that gas block rail system you're going to need a different set of sights. I don't think troy makes a gb mounted sight but I know that Midwest industries does,

http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/...category_id=79

There may be other options out there, I'll have a look around

bonjing 12-15-2009 07:30 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

here are a couple more options

http://www.samson-mfg.com/ar-15_html...F-FFS-EXT.html

http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/sights.html

I'm sure there are cheaper places to buy them from.

smokeyandthebandit05 12-15-2009 11:08 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

If I go with the sampson Im goin to assume it will line up with any rear sight. Is this correct?

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I went with the Troy flip ups and I'm having the problem with the gas block being lower than the rear rail. Trying to find a riser of some sort to bring that front site up....

Re: First Firearm Thread.

HK3 I think this would be the best bet

No problem. If u get one let me know how it is. I may be needing one as well. Are the troy sights worth it? I found a set but they are $250.

I'll say that I love my troy sights ! ! ! For what you have, looks like a 20"+ barrel, I'd just stick with the glass/optics. That is if all you're going to use it for is target and varmint shooting.

With that said, my personal opinion is always have a good set of iron sights on your rifle! ! !

A friends dad got a stag with idk say a 18" barrel. He had iron sights as well as some kind of red dot or holographic sight. I think for now I just want to do iron sights, learn how to shoot it well with them, then drop the money on something nice

You know it is a good day when you ask your daughter what she wants to do on her 18th birthday and her reply is "Can we go shooting, Dad?"

I must have done at least one thing right.

Just in case anyone has sent or was planning on sending anything to Anvil Arms, the company went under and the previous owner has made off with a large quantity of money, gun parts, and class III items.

This just happened within the last month...

This is going to get very very messy now that the BATFE is involved. The previous owner has been ordered to turn in all hardware and class III but has not complied as of yet.

Just wanted to give the gun heads like me a heads up. :tu

Have you looked into CPO's? You can find them a great deal cheaper than new and often they are almost perfect in everyway. :tu

I know there are quite a few of you who have an AR-15. When I get out of the academy in another 7 weeks I want to buy one my gift to myself. I was hoping I could get some input from those of you that have one. Ideally I would like to find one in the 6-700 dollar range if possible.

Where is a good place to buy one online?
Where is a good place to get inexpensive .223 rounds?

I was interested in this one:

gunbroker.com I've bought quite a few things off there. Great deals as well. They just ship to your local dealer or anyone that carries an FFL.

That's not a bad price for a NEW complete rifle.

Don't forget to check out ar15.com's equipment exchange. If you're patient, and check back often, there are good deals to be had.

Looks good to me. Just so you are aware, that is a left handed model. I would prefer a 1/7 twist, but a 1/9 twist will be fine :tu

I wish mine was a lefty. Never really had a problem getting drilled in the head by spent brass but I'm sure I'd appreciate it after a couple hundred rounds.
