Re: beer hauls
I think I am getting the hang of this.........MAN, Greg, I almost picked up that Roquefort today
but it was JUST outside my desire to spend money today, it was 6 and change after I already had these 3 packs and a bottle of Bacardi Select and one of E.W. Single Barrel. Just couldn't justify it today. http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/a...G/IMG_6306.jpg |
Re: beer hauls
Mmmmm the only DT's I enjoy! ;)
|
Re: beer hauls
$4.50 a bottle seemed like a good price from what I have seen elsewhere. I have seen this stuff as high as
$18 a freaking bottle, generally in the 8-11 buck range. I guess there is a reduction with the 4 pack anyhow, but $17.99 was an easy choice. And that's the problem, isn't it?? Freakin 18 bucks a sixer for BEER?? |
Re: beer hauls
:r Brad you have yet to learn.....beer is no cheaper than cigars.
If I'm going on the less high end size I'm happy to get away with $18 a sixer. Most often it's more like $30-$35 Rochefort Trappistes 10 is like $8-$8.50 for an 11.3oz DFH WWS is $10 for a 12oz Avery Mephistopheles is regularly $8-12 for a 12oz Plenty more but you get the point. Beer is certainly not cheap. |

Re: beer hauls
I appreciate the insight, I can DRINK BEER and still not have read enough to know what I am talking about.
There are sometimes things we just drink on faith, lol. I take great pains to read about stuff I want to know about and have an interest in, but when I saw this circle with a number in it, and you are likely right, I only saw the 10, and just fabricated the other numbers, I just put that with my lack of further funds and passed on the whole lot. Just drank a Golden Monkey and I was pretty surprised, an abundance of hard-to-pinpoint flavors and it was pretty damn good. Smoked a Ramonitas with it and prepared it for a blog entry. |

Double 6 Triple 8 Quadruple 10 Gaining higher ABV and flavor as you go up. IMHO 10's the best hands down without a doubt. 8 is very good, 6 was kinda meh for me. I could be partially wrong as I really don't get INTO the way they make it or any of that crap. I focus more on drinking it :D |
Re: beer hauls
Quote:
6 = 7.5% 8 = 9.2% 10 = 11.3% Yes not on the same level as DFH IPAs but a great analogy. 60 minute = 6% 90 - 9% 120 - 18% (use to be 21%) Many would debate the 90 minute being the best, but for me I like the 120 minute. The 21% ABV 120 minute boasted a lot of flavor, complexity and hit's very hard. A really winner for me. Quote:
Go with the 10, it will probably blow your mind. The 8 is no slouch either but the 6 isn't worth the time or money, IMHO. |
Re: beer hauls
I dropped a pretty penny today, what with my liquor needs for my upcoming week in the mountains, so I have been
self-placed on a bit of a hiatus on beer purchases. But man am I stocked, at least for a casual drinker like me. I have even been hammering away at the Jockamo lately trying to make it go away. Only 4 to go, lol. |

Just shoot me a PM. I've tried literally 90%+ of the high gravity selections TN has to offer. I wouldn't set you up with anything $hitty. I'm am on the same buying hiatus because f**king TN's beer distribution has nothing new for months on end. They've been promising me new beer and more Ten-Fidy for about 6 months now. It's okay though once they get more Ten-Fidy I'm buying it all. Supposedly in the next 6 weeks they will get something good.....supposedly |
Re: beer hauls
Bill, as far as DFH, I love the 90min. Probably top 3 IPA (IIPA) for me. I like the 120 and have a few, but I have never been able to drink a whole one by myself. I usually split it with the wife. It is delicious though.
As far as the Rocheforts being Dubbel, Trippel or Quads: I am not sure where the brewery is located, but my understanding is that only breweries in the southern regions (lowcountry?) separate Strong Ales into the different categories. Everything else in this style is simple Strong Ale or Strong Dark Ale. I do not drink a ton of Belgians, but this is how I have always understood it. I could be way off though. If someone knows better, I would be interested to hear it. |
Re: beer hauls
I know the 10 is a quadruple that is it. I mean...I drank probably 10 #10's, 2 #8's and 1 #6. So I really don't know too much about the 6 or 8. Other than the 8 is good, but the 6 isn't worth it.
The 90 minute is great, especially for the price. It might be the best $3 IIPA out there. Probably top 5 for $3 beers period. The 120 is intense, I guess I got lucky. The 120 minute was my first craft beer. So for me at the time it was nothing short of the best thing I had ever drank. I easily finished my first because I was so overwhelmed from finally tasting "real beer". I couldn't get enough. The next day I bought 2 more and polished them both off back to back. Then I starting looking at other DFH beers. I was a kid in a candy store, still am. I spoiled myself early on, I had the Rochefort 10 as my 2nd or 3rd high gravity. Once you taste beers that good....there's no stopping you. |

Re: beer hauls
Up in the mountains of Western NC, and sorry Greg, I ate your ribs......
But I hit Peabody's in Boone, and I have to say it is reveiewd as being expensive, and it is relatively so, but in case these reviewers haven't noticed, this stuff ain't cheap no matter where you find it. And in this case, where you find it is at the top of a mountain, and has no competition to speak of, so what r you gonna do? Two days worth of hauls. One beer, the one that looks like "tokyo" it is 18% and as such he could not legally sell it to me so he gave it to me. I would also say it helps to have a pocketfull of CCs when dragging this guy around the store, lol. I made out better than I would have at home, and found things I couldn't necessarily find. http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/a.../beerhaul1.jpg http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/a...beerhaul2a.jpg http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/a...beerhaul2b.jpg |

Re: beer hauls
Good shopping, Brad! :tu The Dragon's Milk is a damn fine stout, and I really enjoy the Heavy Seas & Great Divide brews. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Brewdog stout--I've seen that around here for like $15/12oz, so I've always passed it up.

Re: beer hauls
That Nogne O collaboration caught my eye, interested to hear what you think of that one. :tu

Re: beer hauls
hehe, Gerard, I got it free, so the price was awesome! The Beard is a really nice kat. Once he was properly greased
with CCs, I told my sister to grab a few bottles of wine while the iron was hot. ;) Great selection compared to my locals. And Greg, I didn't eat your ribs, per se. I just knew you'd not be there Thursday, which seemed like my only free day. Kind of a rain washout as you likely know. Then I found out my Brother-in-law was coming tomorrow, and I re-calculated the rib count for a fifth mouth. |
Re: beer hauls
Seth, whjich beer are you pointing out? I remember seeing the word collaboration while shopping, but I am having
trouble picking it out of a lineup. I can't see that I bought one of what you are talking about, lol. -edit------ derh, Google....you mean that Pumpkin deallie-0. The Beard said it was a really good pick. All the holiday beers he had were 15% off, and once we got chummy, lol, he knocked em down to 30%. I am looking forward to that one, he laughed at me when I said I was not sure about pumpkin beer. He said he assured me it was NOT a pumpkin beer. Drinking that bad elf brew now....ehh. |

Got a bottle of the new 2011 Russian Imperial Stout. I heard the belgo was no good? Opinions?
|
Re: beer hauls
I am testing now, will let you know after test is done.
|
Re: beer hauls
Ok, the initial test is done. If you like anise then you will be fine with this. If you dont then dont bother buying it.
|
Re: beer hauls
That's what I heard, too much anise.....
Shame. I guess I'll stick with the regular Russian Imperial. Thanks :tu |
